HAGANE came back more efficient with the new line-up : singer is not very original, but very good, bassist very good, Junna beats the drums like hell and Sakura is a Goddess, like always ; it still sounds very HAGANE, because riffs and melodic lines of vocals come from Sakura (I guess), but more efficient! I can't wait to see some live videos...

Such a great song, Junna's little feet are BLAZING in this one lol! (Definitely the fastest double bass kicks I've ever heard her play) 🥁🐾 🔥

Thank you for featuring Hagane. They were originally a five-piece with dual leads. The initial lineup came together in 2018, just as they were finishing high school. Founder Sakura started posting metal covers on youtube when she was 14, and gained notoriety as a technical beast with a taste for ferocious shredding. That is how most of the other band-members found her. The songwriting is mature, far beyond what you should be able to expect from a bunch of high-school kids.
They have had three vocalists, with Uyu being on board most of their history. They were clearly playing in a similar space as groups like Mary’s Blood, Nemophila and Lovebites-melodic, hard, heavy and technical, but they quickly found their own signature sound, built around exotic scales, syncopated rhythms and the aforementioned high-octane shredding. They were seen as one of the up and coming groups until their announcement in March 2023 that they were suspending activities.
The (second) lineup, just before the hiatus in 2023:
    Vocal : Uyu
Guitar : Sakura Yoshida (also wrote and arranged most of the music)
    Guitar : Mayto
    Bass : Sayaka
    Drum : Kanako Takahashi (b. 2001)
They are young, all around 23, and are extremely proficient musicians.
They have since re-formed as a four-piece, built around Sakura and Sayaka, with the already famous Junna joining them at drums. Junna was previously with Kakumei (later rebranded as Trident), and has a popular youtube channel where she posts insanely hyperactive solo covers of metal songs. There had long been speculation about whether she would sign with another band. New vocalist Nagi has replaced Uyu.
    From the second lineup:
    “Soul Beats”: ua-cam.com/video/k8NTRJ_yTxY/v-deo.html
The rhythm line seamlessly melds rock and funk throughout. The guitar solo is classic jazz fusion, but with distortion. The heavy use of minor and diminished scales gives it a vaguely middle-eastern vibe, but jacked up to searing intensity.
    “Super Villan” ua-cam.com/video/MCqzm0nUxbM/v-deo.html
Huge guitar duet, with give and take and a lot of experimental ideas.
    “Black Cult” ua-cam.com/video/LCheI6-MWhY/v-deo.html
From their recently released album, another with lots of musical ideas, great guitar dueling, and continuously improving vocals from Uyu.
The new lineup have released an EP, “Life Goes On”, with five tracks including an instrumental. Despite not having the dual attack, it looks like they haven’t lost a step-Junna is insane as ever and Sakura is a match for any shredder alive.
Other bandmembers: Uyu already has her own band, which is largely focusing on covers of other metal groups, especially Babymetal. She is also working with Mayto on a project-we’ll see if it turns into something long term. Both Mayto and Kanako have worked on other projects. They are elite musicians and should have no trouble landing with other bands if they choose to.

It's such a shame that the GRBK videos are no longer available on Trident's or Junna's channels, and the old GRBK channel is also no longer up. Can't find the videos anywhere except for snippets on a Junna compilation video. 😢 Must be some legalities going on between them or something.

I really loved the original lineup, but I have to admit, all 4 tracks on this EP with the new lineup are pure fire. they sound so good. The vocalist is awesome. I was worried most about replacing UYU, but wow, impressed. loving it, all 4 new tracks on a playlist that I am playing daily.

This is really good. I think Sakura is amazing. The singer is good, too, and a good vocal melody.

It’s a new, harder sound for HAGANE. I like it.
    I think it’s pronounced more like ha-ga-ne.

I was corrected on a previous video to put the emphasis on the first syllable since I was putting it on the second. Now, I'm just confused.

@@RockCandy-ix3nn When speaking Japanese, all syllables are stressed evenly. That is, Japanese speech does not involve stress accent. Each phonentic element is delivered at a steady tempo, with no variation in stress, and no gap between words (a feature that English has in common). That's what leads to the machine gun-like sound of rapid speech, and makes Japanese so good for rapping. Speaking without stress accent is very hard for English speakers to do (including me). What we call "syllables" are written in Japanese using "kana" (hiragana or katakana). Western scholars created various system of representing those sounds using Roman characters ("Romaji," in Japanese), for the benefit of Western readers (the Japanese generally do not use Romaji for domestic consumption). The most common one today is the Hepburn system.
In Japanese, this band's name, 鋼 (Steel), is written phonetically using three hiragana as はがね, and the Romaji equivalent is "ha-ga-ne." Likewise, the name of everyone's favorite Harajuku-core band, 花冷え, rendered phonetically as the four hirgagana はなびえ, and transliterated to Romaji as "ha-na-bi-e."
There's is something called "pitch accent" in Japanese speech, which involves pronouncing different syllables within a word with one of two different pitches, but that might be applied differently in various regional dialects, is generally not essential for understanding, and is altogether different from the stress accent common in English.
Sorry for rambling on, but the Japanese language is fascinating. It's so different from English that I marvel at Westerners who are truly fluent, as it involves a massive rewiring of the brain. That's one reason that understanding the Japanese language is essential for understand Japanese culture, and vice-versa.

Thanks again for doing my request, It was awesome. I have been loving this band for 3 + years now, the previous members decided to move on and try other things, it was surprising that Sakura and Sayaka decided to keep the band alive, they had vocal try outs and must have already talked with Junna, no need to try out for drummer when you are Junna. I have been surprised at how much they leveled up with a new vocalist and drummer. This EP was #1 in the Apple music Metal category in Japan.
