Why do the Cubs insist on selecting from the Bum of the Month Club for catching options (O'Hoppe, Jansen, Thaiss, Barnhart, Nido, Gomes). There are several C prospects at the minor league level - Dalton Rushing, Samuel Basallo, Kyle Teel and Harry Ford. Rushing and Basallo appear to be position blocked at the MLB level. Why aren't they exploring trade options for one of these guys? Are they all considered "untouchable"?
Dalton Rushing is regarded as the top prospect in the Dodger organization, Basallo 1st or 2nd depending on the ranker for the Orioles, Teel a top five for the Red Sox, and Ford a top two or three for the Mariners. Why would you think other organizations would be more willing to part with their top prospects than the Cubs? It is a league of prospect huggers, especially with catchers. The Dodgers took Rushing when the already had Smith and their top prospect at the time was Diego Cartaya, another catcher whose standing has since declined.
These two do love to try to excuse the Cubs for spending well beneath others near their revenue levels. Attendance was the sixth highest in baseball with high ticket prices and with their own tv network that is well distributed across the metro area. They have the money. They have made their choice to spend less. I don't see why it benefits Sahadev or Patrick to pretend there is something else going on.
Hey, love seeing the video!

Sahadev, will you always be doing coordinated hoodie and hat? Will that be your thing?
After staring at Sahadev's Twitter (and Bluesky) profile picture, seeing him clean-shaven has me shook. :S
