Fun fact: Lille Gruber's father, Wolfgang Teske was a jazz fusion drummer in the 1970s and he also played guitars in this band until he passed away in 2010.
Seen them live in Boston in the 2000's. Thought it was odd that there was and old dude in the band. Later to find out it was the drummers father! Absolutely INSANE show!!! 🤘🤘🔥🔥
As glad as I am to see Defeated Sanity on here I feel like Andrew would have appreciated something off the Dharmata B-Side more. Or the fact that it is even the same band!
Lille is super creative with his fills. Its downright jazzy most of the time, that switch up to triplet feel being so clean and easy for him. Just look how relaxed and chilled he is playing a set.
I recommend you give this video a second spin. You noticed the blasting the first time, now you should be able to catch all the weird time signature changes and fusion type fills. That's what really makes Lille stand out.
I had the immense pleasure to see his band live and he is an absolute beast on the kit. During the opening act he was sitting at the merch table air drumming the songs that the opening band was playing. In perfect time. The opener was vitriol. He is the goat.
You should hear their last album, Cronicles of Lunacy. All of them are masterpieces, but in the last one, the sound is very clean, and there is another album where you can hear his technicism, Dharmata, where the second part is like a tribute to Death band and it is a masterpiece.
Basically the best band to come out of germany since Necrophagist and Obscura. I recommend Passages into Deformity. So brutal and technical and with jazzy passages, it's awesome. EDIT: Also Cytotoxin belongs in that list.
Check out his work on Intercepting Pattern! Also, the Dharmata album that Defeated Sanity released is more of a death/cynic type sound if that’s what you’re looking for. He is an amazing drummer!
Thank you for doing a reaction video on this and not focusing on the musical genre or the vocals. I feel like a lot of people outside of the BDM community often want to joke and poke fun at the vocal techniques and it's just so old at this point but this was refreshing, you are focused solely on his drumming techniques.
I think this one got you Andrew. Hope you're not getting tired of this stuff.... We metalheads almost had you in our ranks with our weird drummers hehe
@@AndrewRooneyDrums Just got home, they played at Whammy bar. I have to say, I was a little reluctant to see them at Whammy since the sound is usually just awful there but, heck, I was really surprised. Mark from King's Arms has taken over sound there and it was absolutely incredible! So glad Auckland has a good sounding venue for bands again, it was pretty grim for a while! Also, just want to say I watch your channel a lot, I used to play drums for Dawn Of Azazel before Jeremy Suckling took over, good work buddy!
FINALLY! U should definetly check out the second half of Disposal of the Dead album, called Dharmata with lots of jazzy influences and impressive drum parts! There's a live performance of that and it's pratically played entirely live so u should definetly check it out, keep the good work!
I've had the pleasure of seeing this live a good amount of times, the entire band is insane. Bassist is a monster too, I'd recommend any bass players to check him out too. and also *Gruber
love Lille style when playin snare, once i saw them play and doin their live Mixing when they tour In Bandung Indonesia . I think he is a genius drummer ,check their video in my channel.thanks for doin this react
Lille is crazy and this video might not look like much, but he certainly has his own style and often infuses weird accents and time signatures in what is otherwise fairly linear drumming in metal. This track has a video and the famous "rim-blast", but probably does not show his whole capabilities.
Rim click blast beat. Yup, that's a first for me as well and I listen to a lot of extreme metal. Then again Dave Weckl is the only dude I know of who does rim clicks with the tip of the stick hitting a cow bell.
Matthew Gossman! He wrote some incredible stuff spaced across all three Into the Moat releases! Glad to see someone aware of his incredible playing. I was lucky enough to see him live three times with ITM, and got to know the members pretty well 😉
You need another brutal death drummer again.? I just recommend you for reaction romain gaulon - the veils of misconceptions from disavowed cover🤔😏 "OR" John longstreth from origin with song all thing dead
@@AndrewRooneyDrums I'm not a drummer, but I would say that Lille is a genius, one of the greatest living drummers and his mindblowingly complex style deserves more attention than "he does rim click blasts, bye".
That’s that indeed. You are more tolerant than me mate. My ears started to bleed and could not appreciate the talent. It was over for me when I thought my trash can was getting hit. As always you are doing an awesome job.
I'm sorry you had to listen to this haha there could have been some better and more pleasant examples of his drumming. Seeing some Rim blast beats is also a first for me too though! :D
Ya know, just not my thing. I don't know how you go out and hum this track all day without folks around you calling for the people in white coats, and the funny jacket that goes on backwards. And I'm not Houdini. Just sayin.
Mind you I am even a fan of this band☝️ However... Yawn... Sorry.... I found listening to my bathroom fan make rapid clicking sounds more interesting....
oooff this is the kind of crap that would have been on a cut rate Italian death metal label advertising in the back of metal mags in the mid-90's. Garbage.
imagine telling someone who studied classical composing and had a famous jazz musician for a father that he plays garbage... This short sample isn't even close to what Lille is capable of, but sure, judge based from one video you gonk.

love defeated sanity and lilles work! outstanding talent and musician
On top of his drumming, Lille tracked guitars for their (DS) latest album
In the industry we call it a Rim-Blast.....wait, this is a drumming video?
