What's even sadder about Toussaint is that Shuri had been ducking Nakia's calls. The secret of T'Challa's son was a secret only because of Shuri being closed off and not mourning her brother's death, but when she finally mourns his death the gift of Toussaint was given to her.
I don't know if they ever spelled it out in any commentaries or BTS clips, but it seemed pretty obvious to me that that's also probably what Ramonda was going to tell Shuri before they were interrupted by Namor
@@DavidGowers When we first see Shuri after the 1 year time skip Griot tries to tell her about Ramonda's arrival, but after that he also says that she had an incoming call from Nakia. The two probably worked it out after Nakia had tried to call multiple times but couldn't reach her over the course of the year.
Shuri was mad at Nakia for not attending T’Challa’s funeral. Nakia kept calling over and over to explain why. Then when Nakia went to visit Shuri in her lab, she was clearly still very hostil le towards her (not to mention that in a way Nakia is responsible for Wakanda having to go to war with Talokan.)
So the thing with Namor in the comics is that he’s actually the King of Atlantis. However, Marvel Studios changed his backstory as a Mesoamerican to avoid inevitable comparisons with DC Comics’ Aquaman… even though Namor came first in the comics. Still the Mesoamerican theme really gives its own identity and love the explanation for Namor’s name in the film.
@@yiledute did you watch the movie? It's from the phrase Nino sin amor. N amor Namor. The child without love was a name only spoken by his enemies. I don't know how much clearer it could have been
@@ryuhitsuya21 yes, I saw the movie. I'm mexican, and I'll tell you going from Niño sin amor to Namor is a big stretch. No one that speaks spanish that I know of makes that kind of wordplay.
As long time fan of Namor in the comics, Atlantis was never written that interesting in the Marvel world, I liked the creative choices they took to change his culture & I’m happy they still kept Namor very true to his character
"I just buried the last person who truly knew me my heart was buried with her" "The world has taken too much from you to be considered a child" Love these quotes
Our first introduction to T'Challa was him in Civil War coming to terms with what vengeance does to a person and not letting him get consumed by it. At the end of Civil War, he said, "Vengeance has consumed you. It's consuming them. I am done letting it consume me." Couldn't help but see that great call back when Shuri says, "It already has." and then of course later on when she spares Namor.
M’Baku roaring “THE BLACK PANTHER LIIIIIIVES” and leading his Jabari chant while the Elders sing and cry in rejoice over Shuri… man. That hits so hard.
I do admire the way they adapted Namor. He's from a different era of comics, straight-up goofy-lookin, and they just kept the whole ensemble. Little wings, elf ears, green speedo, all of it. They played it straight like they have nothing to be ashamed of, and it works. And Tenoch Huerta was perfect.
I like the ending with Ramonda saying "Show him who you are," which follows what she said to T'Challa in the first movie. Also, Shuri's lines about vengeance consuming them and not letting it consume their people pays homage to T'Challa saying the same-ish line to Zemo at the end of Captain America Civil War. Beautiful symmetry.
Yup, there are so many parallels between Civil War, Black Panther, & Wakanda Forever. One of my favorites is Shuri's big arc as the Black Panther. In Civil War, we see T'Challa as the Black Panther and his journey of vengeance and how he gave mercy, in the end, in the end to not lose herself. Then in Black Panther, we get N'Jadaka's story as the Black Panther and his journey of vengeance and how he let it consume him all the way to the end. Now, we have a new Black Panther, Shuri, and seeking vengeance, she has two paths she could follow, presented based the two Black Panther. Shuri had a choice to make and it all comes together leading her to make what she wants to do in regard to her vengeance: T'Challa or N'Jadaka. Each movie has an arc about a Black Panther seeking vengeance and it comes together beautifully in this moment with Shuri in the end. She let it consume her, but later decided to find peace... P
I love that Namor was ambiguous at the end, spiritually he is very faithfull to the comics. He's not good or evil, he's caotic neutral. He wants what he wants. If you share the same goal he works with you, but if your goals oppose then he fights you. He never negotiates. Soooo, I'm exited for Avengers because when the world is in danger someone just has to tell Namor and he will all of a sudden act like a hero. He only acts in extremes and it's very entertaining.
But also, it points to something we see in the comics: yes, Namor and T'challa (or Suri) are superheroes, but they are also politicians. Whenever they go puch an Alien or defeat an army, there are international consequences. Heck, Namor is a member of the literal Illuminati (in the comics). Namor wisely decided that war now didn't serve his kingdom. The way he sees it, he brokered peace with a powerful nation, and since in his opinion the world is about to come down on Wakanda becasue realpolitik, Wakanda will have no one to turn to, except the one other nation in the world that shares their interests regarding Vibranum. And guess who will have great leverage in those negotiations for alliance?
@@fernandozavaletabustos205 At first I disagreed but now I'm thinking he might just seem chaotic because he's so aggressive. He doesn't listen to anybody except his people and a few chosen land dwellers that he deems worthy like Steve Rogers. His actions in the illuminati seemed very lawful as he did things the other members couldn't bring themselves to. Other times it feels like he attacks people out of frustration, or he does preemptive strikes before people have done anything. Then again he does always try to justify his actions as for his people or the ocean. I think you're right and he does spend a lot of time on the lawful side of neutral. He definitely swings though.
That Killmonger scene was one of my favorite things about the movie. its damn poetry. He presents her with two ways of handling the solution, one that was more his way and one that was more her brother's way, and she kind of adopts a hybrid of the two, while ultimately honoring herself. Being a practical person, you can even see how that manifests in her suit with the sonic blasters and even in the design with the gold (killmonger) and the black (t'chala. Ah. I just loved it. Great work, team.
As someone who lost my own older brother in December of 2021 I felt Shuri’s pain and anguish throughout the movie. But that’s what makes this a great movie, it shows that no matter how much you miss your loved one, you truly do carry them with you wherever you go and you honor them and their memory. RIP Chadwick Boseman and to my older brother Jorge. I hope you guys are up there right now talking it up
I’m so sorry. My gf and I lost two people to Covid-19 and a friend to suicide. It’s been a rough couple of years and I appreciated the choice to show these characters actually grieving in slow, quiet moments.
This marks the first time ever that any Marvel film received an acting Oscar nomination. Angela Bassett was nominated for Best Supporting Actress Oscar for this film (she won the Golden Globe for it).
I love the parallels between shuri's arc in this movie and t'challa in civil war. I also love that nakia was given a bit of Chadwick's wife Simone's story, in that she was the only one fully aware of t'challa being sick like Simone was for Chadwick. All in all a beautiful tribute.
I believe the queen was going to tell Shuri about her nephew when they were burning their funeral clothes, but then Namor showed up and scared the elephants and it never got revisited
I haven’t cried over a movie since I was a kid, but that Chadwick tribute at the beginning ended that streak. Dude is one of my heroes in and out of the Black Panther suit. RIP
It was thrilling to see them address the fact that the "vibranium" asteroid impact would have distributed debris much further than "Wakanda." At least a few stray shattered and molten fragments.
Fanastic and emotional movie. A wonderful tribute to Chadwick Boseman. Loosely translated from Latin, "Imperius Rex!" stands for "Empire King," but it's a stark warning to anyone who dares to challenge Namor's will in the Marvel Universe. Namor is an Anti-Hero. In fact, Namor is often best described as an anti-hero in Marvel Comics. Namor was created by Bill Everett in Marvel Comics #1 in 1939 as an anti-hero who deeply resented the surface world for polluting the oceanic world in which he lived. The music in this film was great. Angela Bassett was excellent, and I hope she wins an Oscar for her performance in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. In the comics, Namor was also the first mutant introduced in 1939, but was only called a mutant after the introduction of the X-Men in 1963.
Yeah, he's not truly a villain (hell, he sits on the Illuminati with Strange, Prof X, Reed Richards, et al), but he can be an ENORMOUS dick, and is one every time he gets the opportunity, at least as far as I've ever read.
Somewhere along the way I listened to too many dopes on youtube saying the movie was "fine" and "just ok". I didn't think the movie was worth my time in the theatres.. I just watched it on Disney, and wow was I surprised. This movie was excellent. I think people were looking for non stop action. But what I saw was an extremely well crafted film, with excellent performances, that delivered one emotional gut punch after another. So many themes and strong messaging as well. I'm blown away. The world building is top notch as well.
Hot take here Namor was actually my favorite part of this movie. Tenoch Huerta really blew the role out of the water. I'm really excited for his future roles and can't wait to see what comes next.
I now realize I have a comic book issue: every time Nat says “Just put Shuri in the suit” I keep trying to explain to a phone that “The suit doesn’t make her Black Panther. She needs the heart shaped herb.” Haha.
The first five minutes... and then the last 15 minutes or so... It just... it's unfair how emotional they made it. LOL but it is SO... SO beautiful and nuanced.
Those moments got me. But every time they talked about T'challah I got a little frog in my throat. And I have thing about movies with battle cries. Whenever the characters get hype in battle or believe they are making their final stand it makes me emotional. Not sure why, I think my adrenaline starts going.
I just happen to live in Chadwick’s hometown of Anderson, South Carolina. this man has done soo much for the local communities & kids down here. Wakanda Forever, My King 🤴🏿🙅🏼♂️🍻
I don’t even know what to say, just a colossally powerful film. It’s essential viewing. The horrible silence during the logo after the prologue was just… man.
You're the first person I've seen react to this movie that picked up on teh connection between their singing and sirens. It's a nod to the old legends of mermaids singing to lure men into the sea and to their deaths. Too many people seem to have missed this.
@yiledute I was about to say. Most people caught it. I saw one recently who even referred to what the siren song is called in her native language and culture...
It wouldn't be right. The reason she says the "vengeance has consumed us" line at the end with Namor is a direct echo to her lost brother. Also, while not a new idea, the movie is a take on the stages of grief and anger is a BIG one.
This was such a powerful movie. I enjoyed it very much, and it still chokes me up even now! What I love is that the cast is on record as saying that making this movie helped all of them in processing their grief at Chadwick's passing. You have to think... they knew him in person. They watched him dying, even as he continued acting to the end. It is just so powerful, and it is the kind of thing that makes me appreciate his voice acting appearances in What If...? quite so much.
I didn’t love every Phase 4 movie but this one hit it just right for me. This is the best movie we could have gotten considering the real life circumstances.
I was first introduced to Chadwick in 42 when i saw it in theaters. Was soooo excited when he was announced as Tchalla in Civil War with RDJ and Chris Evans on stage. Was shocked to see him pass so soon. Forever a legend
@@tmac731 recasting t'challa would be disrespectful towards Chadwick though. the way they do it in this movie is much more honorable and respectful towards him.
@@VerlorinoDeven Derek Boseman said Chadwick would have wanted Tchalla to be recasted. Tchalla had stories before and after Chadwick life. No offense but Tchalla is bigger than Chadwick that’s why he was filming while he was sick. Tchalla should have had many more movies before 2018, He’s that big, he’s the African version of Batman in the comics, he should be treated as such in the movies. Shuri became Black Panther when Tchalla was put in a coma by Dr.Doom. When he came out there were 2 Black Panthers
@@tmac731 well that’s just your opinion. they made the right call in honoring Chadwick Boseman this way because he’s not just THE black panther. he’s everything. so, yes recasting wouldn’t be the best option. his legacy is far more important than an MCU comic.
@@VerlorinoDeven dude what? Name me another FICTIONAL character that died because the actor died. Would Marvel kill Spider-Man OFF SCREEN to an illness even though he’s super human and have Mary Jane Watson name her baby Peter Parker? NO they wouldn’t. They’re going to recast Peter Parker until they’re ready for Miles Morales. William Hurt died and they recasted Ross quicker than they said they will not recast Tchalla. Why kill a main character everybody loves but recast a side character nobody even knows about? Chadwick wanted you to see the character and not him. Recasting Tchalla would have continued the world Boseman started which is a better tribute than killing the character he played forever. Chadwick doesn’t own Tchalla. Tchalla existed before Chadwick was born
This was a superb movie for the MCU. The story, the cinematography, the acting , the way it integrated T'Challa and Chadwick's passing, and the way the writers retconned Namor's origin that was so organic and didn't feel forced was just brilliant. My only complaint is that there seemed to be someone chopping onions every time I watched this.
I went to see this at the theater less than a week after I had lost a close family member. Needless to say, there were tears streaming down my face nearly the whole movie. I would have cried dearly anyway because of the loss of Boseman, but I cried so much more because of how close it hit me. This movie will forever be tied to my last memories of that family member, and I like that a lot. It almost feels like a tribute to him just as much as it is to Boseman. This movie and a voicemail saved on my phone are my last solid memories of him
This movie really delivers a great tribute to Chadwick. He will be missed dearly. Angela Basset gave such a powerful performance as the grieving Queen. I’m looking forward see more of Letitia Wright as the new Black Panther in the future MCU.
They picked the perfect Queen Ramonda cause she's a queen on and off the screen. She just won HCA for best actress yesterday. Namor is considered the first Mutant in the comics. Even before the Apocalypse.
I believe young Prince T'Challa's existence is what Romanda wanted to tell Shuri before they were interrupted by Namor. I'm curious to see where this story goes from here. So many lose ends at the end but the ending was not unsatisfying.
I know it doesn’t hit the same for everyone, but its sad that all the moments about characters feelings the impacts of colonialism were cut from this reaction: it was the plot that actually hit me the hardest in this movie (out of all the other emotionally devastating plot beats). Especially that moment at the end where Shuri looks at Namor and sees the beauty of both their cultures, and the impacts of what would happen if this conflict over colonial interests pit them against each other, and eventually, wiped one of them out. Good reaction, though! Leititia Wright did, in fact, kill it as the lead.
Unfortunately with a historically MCU low 20% White audience attendance for BPWF at the Box Office, it's not surprising that those themes are being missed by 'certain ppl'!
Oh ffs why!? Idk why exactly but I swear…that tiny bit of dialogue from like 14:19 to 14:28 is actually ridiculously powerful! I mean like seriously tho……that delivery is absolutely insane! Like, there’s more palpable raw emotion on display in those few seconds, than some movies can manage to conjure up even if they were to take all the “emotional” moments in the entirety of their hours long run time and combine them into a single unit/moment ffs!!😅 Now don’t get it twisted my dudes, there are tons of amazing performances all throughout this movie……but holy hell she is an absolute legend! Incredible……gives me goosebumps every freaking time man!😮💨🥹👌
Queen Ramonda's speech as she breaks down...maaaan it gets me *EVERY TIME!!* Her acting is just so damn powerful! Plus you also know that everyone on that cast was still dealing with Chadwick's passing too...just adds yet another weight to it! 😭
This was honestly a great reaction and analysis to this movie! Throughout it I was emotional the whole way. When I heard of Chadwick’s passing and finding out about his battle with colon cancer for four years, it reminded me of how my grandma is fighting kidney and liver failure. Several years later and when this movie came out on Disney+, it was about a little more than four years of my grandma being on dialysis and it hit me hard. So seeing T’Challa’s funeral and Queen Ramonda’s death got me into a crying mess when I saw it for the first time. I never cried hard in a Marvel movie except probably Endgame and Infinity War, but this one was on such a personal level. I thank the crew and the cast of this movie for making such a beautifully relatable story about grief, revenge, and forgiveness, because it felt not just as a moment of celebration and remembrance, but I also felt it as a moment of healing in all areas. Hopefully you get to react to the rest of the MCU like Ms Marvel, She-Hulk, and the Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday special :) also Secret Invasion and Loki Season 2 is this Year as well as Ant-Man and the Wasp Quantumania, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 and The Marvels. There might be a possibility of Echo being released this year too :) maybe you should check out X-Men The Animated Series in time for the continuation that’ll come out this year on Disney+, X-Men ‘97!
Angela Bassett is the highlight of this movie, such incredible acting! Don't get me wrong, the whole movie is amazing but her acting was just top notch!
"Oh shit, she got an Iron Man suit" is dead as one of the funniest lines in marvel lol the timing and delivery made me actually burst out laughing in the movie, which i never really do in movies.
4 favorite scenes of this movie Siege Of Wakanda Ancestral plain scene Queen Ramonda's funeral Okoye gets fired as the general of the Dora Milaje This entire movie was soooooo good the music acting everything about this movie was great especially when the Queen says "I AM QUEEN OF THE MOST POWERFUL NATION IN THE WORLD AND MY ENTIRE FAMILY IS GONE HAVE I NOT GIVEN EVERYTHING" also here's a pattern for the Black Panther suit Everytime we see the Black Panther first dawn the suit it's out of revenge T'Challa for his father Kilmonger for his father and his ancestors Shuri for her mother I love Namor as a villain as well but I do have to say I prefer Kilmonger but Namor was an amazing villain
17:02: the reason he has winged feet is actually bc he’s a mutant! This is also cannon to the MCU so far there’s only 2 mutants but eventually we’ll either get more in the main universe or an alt x-men universe will merge with the MCU universe. His mutant powers allow him to fly in the air and in the ocean. He’s also a lot more durable and stronger than even the average atlantian.
The comic explanation for Namor having winged feet is because he's a mutant, as in the X-Men type. I don't know if that still applies in the MCU since they haven't yet directly introduced mutants.
In the comics, Riri actually becomes a protege of Tony Stark as a character named Ironheart. Also the name of the underwater city actually comes from the name of an Aztec heaven, Tlalocan.
I felt the same way about Ramonda's scene from the ancestral plane, the execution was a bit weird. It seems they did changed that scene or at least recorded a different version where she says "Show him who we are", you can hear that line on the first teaser Marvel released, which is a recurring thing they do while they promote their films. Still it was a nice scene for Shuri and her mom.
So I've watched a couple of your vids today, I just found your channel, and I have to say, as a boring white, cis, hetero dude, Thank You for the casual mentions on a couple of videos now about "time of the month" stuff. In absolute seriousness, it is something people STILL don't talk about or acknowledge, and your matter-of-fact, "hey guys, this is what's up" talk is genuinely great. (You'll notice I'm even not saying period because it's such a hard thing to casually mention and I could only say it as an aside in a hopefully comedic post-script!)
When Namor said he was a mutant, this is the first time a character in the MCU called themselves a “mutant”. Now from this point forward the MCU can slowly introduce different mutants like the X-Men into the MCU.
Im going through your marvel watch alongs. Inspiring to get back into this. Wakanda is one of the few storylines from the mcu I still really care for. I loved this movie make me cry big time in the theater.
Glad to see you reacting to this movie, happy to see another person enjoy it. It's cool you kept mentioning the costumes, in every single interview I've seen with the cast and crew everyone praised the costumes and the costume designer because of how culturally accurate and how good and everything the costumes are. Couple fun facts: Namor is the first Marvel character ever, published in 1939 at a point where Marvel didn't have the Marvel name yet. In the comics Namor is king of Atlantis, however for this movie they renamed Atlantis to Talokan and placed it in the area of Central/South America, both to untether it from the DC version of Atlantis which Aquaman rules, but also to continue the Black Panther movies attempts to be more culturally diverse and accurate and such. Wakanda and Atlantis in the comics constantly have beef with each other, so they used that for this movie. As far as other suggestions, Wakanda Forever is the final project in Marvel Phase 4, so I feel it would make sense to finish the remaining Phase 4 projects you haven't done yet, which I believe are Ms. Marvel and She-Hulk, because both shows and characters from both shows will be important in future projects in Phase 5 and beyond. On the DC side of things there's Aquaman and Shazam, as well as specifically James Gunn's Suicide Squad movie and its spinoff show Peacemaker, aside from those the rest of the DCEU can be watched if you want, but those are really the only ones everyone likes and the ones that will be important for upcoming movies and the future of the DC film Universe as a whole. Besides those though, there's the Burton/Schumacher Batman movies, and the Christopher Reeves Superman movies as well and at that point you'll pretty much have seen every live-action DC movie since DC has been more focused on Animation and TV, most of which I'd also recommend. Besides those though, still making a recommendation for Legend of Korra. I don't recall off-hand if you've seen Kenobi and Andor or not, if you haven't I'd recommend both. the other night I watched the Menu, it's an interesting movie that may make for a fun watch.
Regarding the odd pacing at the end of the film: this was during the height of covid, so almost nobody was allowed to be in the same space as each other, which is why there seem to be so few actual people in shots and everything seems to be greenscreened and cut together weirdly.
30:06 The suit isn't "healing" so much as it's just closing back up (as the vibranium spear was capable of penetrating it). The same thing happened in the first movie when T'Challa stabbed N'Jadaka/Killmonger when his suit was temporarily disabled. After the suit regained function, it closed around the knife, then closed completely after it was removed. 32:45 This is what Queen Ramonda was about to tell Shuri before Namor interrupted. So... the last post-credit scene. I believe it is meant to be interpreted as the Black Panther mantle and King title being separated, as previously the King was always also the Black Panther. But now Shuri will be the Black Panther, while M'Baku will be the King.
The irony of him passing after the first movie and the genius to follow the comic events of when he died (sister being the panther) is just amazing to me.
I also love that Toussaint's Wakandan name is T'Challa II so that we still get future T'Challa stories from the comics without recasting Chadwick Boseman.
@@latentgamer5762 nope, DR Doom put him in a coma. Storm let Shuri take the herb but Bast deemed her unworthy. T’Challa came out and there were 2 Black Panthers
Not Iron Man, Ironheart. But not for now. Also, being the Black Panther but not the monarch isn't anything unheard of. If you remember in Captain America: Civil War, T'Challa was already the Black Panther but his father was the king.
21:23 Unfortunately, Namor saw the worst of the surface world... I kind of understand why he thinks like that... and he's right, they're going to go after them later...
Notes regarding this film and the future of the MCU: In the original script, T’Challa’s son would’ve had a more prominent role. Valentina also would have been a secondary antagonist. However, plans for Namor were pretty much the same. In fact, Namor is a member of the comics’ version of the Illuminati. They decided to not include him in the Illuminati that we met in the Multiverse of Madness as they had other plans for him - those plans including Wakanda Forever. Universal Pictures holds the film rights to Namor as well as Hulk. What that means in this case is that both of them can appear in the MCU, but Universal would have to be on board if Marvel Studios wants to produce solo projects for them. This may be an unpopular opinion, but I feel like Nakia is as much to blame as Ramonda for sparking a war between Wakanda and Talokan. There were even two instances where Shuri behaved with a coldly demeanor towards Nakia, because she didn’t attend T’Challa’s funeral. Regarding W’Kabi’s absence, Daniel Kaluuya had a pretty packed schedule and with so much going on they weren’t sure where to put him. Director Ryan Coogler confirmed that he’s currently banned to the outskirts of Wakanda. In the Latin Spanish dub, Ramonda said he’s in prison. Despite not being in the film though, there is some artwork of what W’Kabi would’ve worn. On a brighter note, I’m gonna miss Trevor Noah on the Daily Show but I’m glad he had more lines as Griot this time around. I’m personally glad this film wasn’t too funny, but Riri and M’Baku helped to bring some lightheartedness during this hard time. M’Baku in particular had some major character development in my opinion. Before he took that massive blow from Namor, he wasn’t looking before leaping. Then after Ramonda died, he had a lot to consider. Those traits and experiences are what will help him become the proper king that Wakanda needs going forward. One particular thing that I like about this movie was that we got not one but TWO indigenous actresses from Guatemala. María Mercedes Coroy (Namor’s mom) and Doña María Telón (the elder Nakia spoke to) are both from Santa María de Jesús in the Sacatepéquez Department. My parents are from Quetzaltenango. The film’s score includes edited versions for some of the soundtracks’ songs, but they didn’t add the film’s version of Alone by Burna Boy which includes an excerpt of Stormzy’s Interlude at the start of the song. In the soundtrack, both songs are separate. Senegalese musician Baaba Maal who provided vocals for some of the background music in Black Panther 1 and 2 got to make a cameo singing at T’Challa’s funeral. Josué Maychi, the actor who portrayed the shaman in the Zamá flashback, was also brought into the fold as a dialect coach for the cast. He taught them Yucatec Mayan. Tenoch Huerta got to reprise his role as Namor for the Latin Spanish dub. All you have left to watch now are Ms. Marvel and She-Hulk: Attorney at Law. Other than that, with this film and the Guardians’ Holiday Special, we close out phase four and enter phase five. We kick it off this month with Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. In May, we’re getting Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 3. Then this November, Captain Marvel, Monica Rambeau, and Kamala Khan/Ms. Marvel team up to form a mighty trio: The Marvels. It recently got postponed after it was supposed to premiere in July. At least it gives you more time to watch Ms. Marvel. In terms of shows, Nick Fury and Talos have their own limited series titled Secret Invasion. That’s likely coming in March or April. Loki season 2 will likely arrive in June. Alaqua Cox reprised her role as Maya Lopez from Hawkeye in her own show called Echo which is her superhero codename. The show is currently set to premiere this fall. Riri may not have been allowed to take her suit, but that doesn’t mean we’ve seen the last of them. In fact, we’re just getting started. Riri’s superhero codename is Ironheart. She’s gonna have her own series later this year. (A fun fact on the side: Dominique Thorne originally auditioned for the role of Shuri. She even got to do a screen test with Chadwick. So when they wanted to incorporate Riri, Dominique was their first and only choice.) Agatha Harkness from WandaVision is also getting her own series titled Agatha: Coven of Chaos. Previously it was Agatha: House of Harkness. Marvel Studios is also producing a continuation of X-Men: The Animated Series picking up from the end of season five. It’s under the name X-Men 97. Most of the voice cast is returning, and a second season (or rather a seventh season) is in production. We’re also getting a second season of What If. No release date has been confirmed yet, but Elizabeth Olsen voiced at least one variant of the Scarlet Witch. Sam Wilson is also getting his own Captain America film in May 2024 called New World Order. Valentina will also return in The Thunderbolts coming July 2024. She’s putting together a team of antiheroes. The lineup so far consists of the following: Bucky Ava Starr/Ghost Yelena Alexei Shostakov/Red Guardian Antonia Dreykov/Taskmaster John Walker/U.S. Agent There’s several other projects on the way, but phase six will include Fantastic Four on Valentine’s Day 2025. It’ll be directed by Matt Shakman who also directed WandaVision. Then we’re getting not one but TWO Avengers movies: The Kang Dynasty in May 2025 and Secret Wars in May 2026. The Kang Dynasty will be directed by Destin Daniel Cretton who also worked on Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.
I loved how Shuri goes through a similar journey that T'Challa's did. Shuri's recovering from the loss of her brother, just like T'Challa was dealing with the death of his father. Shuri feels responsible that she couldn't save her brother, just like T'Challa felt that he failed to save his father. They both lose another loved one at the hands of the antagonist. In the first Black Panther, Killmonger kills Zuri (Forest Whitaker) in front of T'Challa as he watches helplessly and in this movie Namor kills Ramonda as Shuri watches helplessly. Riri plays the role of the younger scientifically gifted sibling that Shuri played in the first movie, as she steps into T'Challa's shoes in this movie. Shuri is driven by rage and wants to kill the man responsible for the death of her parent just like T'Challa was in Civil War where he hunted Winter Soldier believing him to be responsible for his father's death. Shuri's words at the end when she spares Namor "Vengeance has consumed us, we cannot let it consume our people" are almost the same as what T'Challa tells Zemo (the man actually responsible for the bombing in Civil War that killed T'Challa's father) "Vengeance has consumed you, it's consuming them. I am done letting it consume me."
In my opinion, this is one of the better MCU films in Phase 4. The movie has everything: a great story, character development, and emotional depth. Plus, one of the best things I love about this movie is that it doesn't rely heavily on comedy like some of the previous MCU films. This film was able to tell an emotional story about loss and grief. I really appreciate Ryan Coogler for taking his time with this amazing story.
They're inferring that "Namor" was already a mutant, but the "Aztec super soldier serum" eliminated the normal mutant latency period. He was born with his highest mutant potential in place.
All I could think after I saw Wakanda Forever was, What an amazing movie. And I'm still just....shaking my head at what an amazing movie it was. It's just stunning. Every scene of it.
I just can't with this movie. The entire Wakandan monarchy and their hangers-on are among the least sympathetic people I've seen portrayed as protagonists in a movie, and the scene between M'Baku and Shuri, where M'Baku warns of eternal war, and Shuri's response is "So what?" and goes on to ask whether her mother's life wasn't worth eternal war and M'Baku answers "of course", without even giving a thought to what that entails, is the exact moment they lost me. Ramonda's narcissistic screeching about being queen of the most powerful nation and supposedly having given everything was bad enough, already. Good job to the writers for portraying royalty accurately, I guess, but jesus christ, the revolution can't come to Wakanda soon enough.
Namor's speech at the end was implying that eventually other countries will go to far trying to get Vibranium from Wakanda and then Shuri will agree that they need to work together to stop the rest of the world.
Nice to see you return to the MCU always enjoy your reactions…a few years ago when I started watching reactors you were my first and loved going through all the Marvel movies with you 🙂 Looking forward to your reaction to Ms Marvel & She Hulk!

But Namor's name in the film makes no sense in spanish, sure the word amor/love is in the name, but that's it.
@@yiledute How would you make a word play on Niño sin amor? More like Nisinor or something?
As long time fan of Namor in the comics, Atlantis was never written that interesting in the Marvel world, I liked the creative choices they took to change his culture & I’m happy they still kept Namor very true to his character
"I just buried the last person who truly knew me my heart was buried with her"
"The world has taken too much from you to be considered a child"
Love these quotes
Our first introduction to T'Challa was him in Civil War coming to terms with what vengeance does to a person and not letting him get consumed by it. At the end of Civil War, he said, "Vengeance has consumed you. It's consuming them. I am done letting it consume me." Couldn't help but see that great call back when Shuri says, "It already has." and then of course later on when she spares Namor.
I loved that part. It made my heart smile.
She spared Namor after he literally spared her. It gets deep when you think of it.
Felt that too.
@@kalinwang1 Did you mean "speared" or was there another moment that you think of as when Namor "spared" Shuri?
@tracy4290 it was a play on words. She spared/speared him.
M’Baku roaring “THE BLACK PANTHER LIIIIIIVES” and leading his Jabari chant while the Elders sing and cry in rejoice over Shuri… man. That hits so hard.
And that's where the movie should have ended because everything after that was horrible
@@kornanthony23who asked u that?
Made me cry 😢 tears of joy obviously
Missing this scene in the reaction 😢
I love that scene, and the scene where the actor ad-libbed "you bald-headed demon!"
Whats more goofy?
Lil speedos or lil shorts?
That was always my favorite part of Civil War. It made the entire movie more humane, and set up T’Challa’s character for the next few movies nicely.
@@juliodavila424 Ya, I heard his monologue at the end of the movie too.
I think he is more Lawful neutral, because he upholds th law of his people / ancestors and triesto do what is best for them.
Absolutely her black panther is a mix of kilmonger, t’challa and herself it’s an epic mix.

I love the parallels between shuri's arc in this movie and t'challa in civil war. I also love that nakia was given a bit of Chadwick's wife Simone's story, in that she was the only one fully aware of t'challa being sick like Simone was for Chadwick. All in all a beautiful tribute.

This film was also dedicated to Dorothy Steel (the actress who portrayed the Merchant Tribe Elder) and Cora Pantin (Winston Duke’s mother).
You weren’t really crying over the movie though cause it wasn’t the character you felt for it was the actor.
Black Panther movies are 2/2 with great villains.
i loved the villains in both black panther movies the most honestly. they both make the movies.
I now realize I have a comic book issue: every time Nat says “Just put Shuri in the suit” I keep trying to explain to a phone that “The suit doesn’t make her Black Panther. She needs the heart shaped herb.” Haha.
And the right mindset or she will be just Killmonger.
Wakanda Forever, My King 🤴🏿🙅🏼♂️🍻

thought the same thing while watching it, but I knew they wouldnt do it
It wouldn't be right.

I cried a lot in this film. Especially in the when shuri remembers tchalla with no music and her finally letting go.
They should have recasted Tchalla so Chadwick work can continue and I’m not talking about his son
The first in publication history, but not in the comics time line.
I believe young Prince T'Challa's existence is what Romanda wanted to tell Shuri before they were interrupted by Namor. I'm curious to see where this story goes from here. So many lose ends at the end but the ending was not unsatisfying.
Bro Marvel really had me bawling in the first five minutes of this movie 😭
Ikr, so sad 😢

Her acting is just so damn powerful!
The comic explanation for Namor having winged feet is because he's a mutant, as in the X-Men type. I don't know if that still applies in the MCU since they haven't yet directly introduced mutants.
I think he’s still a mutant since they made ms marvel a mutant

In the comics, Riri actually becomes a protege of Tony Stark as a character named Ironheart. Also the name of the underwater city actually comes from the name of an Aztec heaven, Tlalocan.
I felt the same way about Ramonda's scene from the ancestral plane, the execution was a bit weird. It seems they did changed that scene or at least recorded a different version where she says "Show him who we are", you can hear that line on the first teaser Marvel released, which is a recurring thing they do while they promote their films. Still it was a nice scene for Shuri and her mom.

When Namor said he was a mutant, this is the first time a character in the MCU called themselves a “mutant”. Now from this point forward the MCU can slowly introduce different mutants like the X-Men into the MCU.
Didn't they use the word "mutant" in Ms. Marvel?

I can’t wait to see if Natalia Gold will watch or be recommended The Woman King. Absolutely amazing movie with such a deep meaning.
You are queen now is the best part in this movie man
Regarding the odd pacing at the end of the film: this was during the height of covid, so almost nobody was allowed to be in the same space as each other, which is why there seem to be so few actual people in shots and everything seems to be greenscreened and cut together weirdly.

Tchalla was put into a coma when Shuri became Black Panther. He did not die
@@tmac731 I need to go re-read it. I swore he had passed. Thanks for info.
@@latentgamer5762 nope, DR Doom put him in a coma. Storm let Shuri take the herb but Bast deemed her unworthy. T’Challa came out and there were 2 Black Panthers
@@tmac731 nice...
Riri's superhero name is Ironheart and she was her own Disney+ show coming possibly this year
Not Iron Man, Ironheart. But not for now.
Also, being the Black Panther but not the monarch isn't anything unheard of. If you remember in Captain America: Civil War, T'Challa was already the Black Panther but his father was the king.
he didnt show up as black panther until after his fathers death
Seeing Chadwick's smirk/smile gets me every time.
When you realize the beginning of the movie isn't Shrui trying to save T'Challa; but Letitia trying to save Chadwick
21:23 Unfortunately, Namor saw the worst of the surface world... I kind of understand why he thinks like that... and he's right, they're going to go after them later...
Best part of namor is hes not really a villain. Hes more of an Anti Hero
An amazing film. A very different pace to the first with a fantastic performance by every cast member. The end with the kid, did me in 😢
Notes regarding this film and the future of the MCU:
In the original script, T’Challa’s son would’ve had a more prominent role.
So when they wanted to incorporate Riri, Dominique was their first and only choice.)
Agatha Harkness from WandaVision is also getting her own series titled Agatha: Coven of Chaos.
The lineup so far consists of the following:
Bucky
Ava Starr/Ghost
Yelena
Alexei Shostakov/Red Guardian
Antonia Dreykov/Taskmaster
John Walker/U.S. Agent
There’s several other projects on the way, but phase six will include Fantastic Four on Valentine’s Day 2025. It’ll be directed by Matt Shakman who also directed WandaVision.
Then we’re getting not one but TWO Avengers movies: The Kang Dynasty in May 2025 and Secret Wars in May 2026.
The Kang Dynasty will be directed by Destin Daniel Cretton who also worked on Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.
tl;dr
Namor, the Submariner was actually Marvel's first superhero when they were still Timely Comics in the 30s-50s.
Will you do she hulk and ms marvel because they introduce things that might be important for the mcu future
5:55 I heard people didn't like the trailer because his actor died but his character did not
I loved how Shuri goes through a similar journey that T'Challa's did.
Oh my god..the dog just chilling in the back😭😭
In my opinion, this is one of the better MCU films in Phase 4.
Natalie, your empathy, sensitivity, authenticity and heart is what makes your reactions beautiful and worth the watch!
Please give the STAR TREK franchise a chance. 🖖🙂
They're inferring that "Namor" was already a mutant, but the "Aztec super soldier serum" eliminated the normal mutant latency period. He was born with his highest mutant potential in place.

@@witzitzilin Thank you. I don't think that sounds as zippy, so it could harm the sports drink sales, but they did specify Mayan.
This is one of the better marvel movies in recent time. Glad you enjoyed it.
Based
Namor's speech at the end was implying that eventually other countries will go to far trying to get Vibranium from Wakanda and then Shuri will agree that they need to work together to stop the rest of the world.
Nice to see you return to the MCU always enjoy your reactions…a few years ago when I started watching reactors you were my first and loved going through all the Marvel movies with you 🙂
Looking forward to your reaction to Ms Marvel & She Hulk!
For me, here's where and how the first ad break fell: "Oh my god, are we starting the movie with him dying?" Singsongy ad: "LIVING SPACES!"
I remember watching your entire Infinity Saga reaction in 2 days almost 2 years ago. Since then I’ve watched everything you posted and you became one of my favorite youtubers. 2 years later and phase 4 has ended. What a journey it has been. Thank you Nat😊🫶🏻
ohh yess my fav marvel movie. DEFINITELY DESERVED EVERYTHING. and i love u sm
Wha?? 😮🤦🏾♂️
Remember X-men? Namor was labeled in the comics as the first mutant.
Are you gonna continue to watch the MCU Disney+ shows ?
30:58 Ok Quick, throw him the water - Natalie 🤷🏻♂️😂😂
I didn't hate this movie, but I had trouble caring about the story. It never really hooked me.
"Some of us are just Switzerland bro"
Should have this on a t-shirt
