Hashtag United are a one-of-a-kind football and esports club, based in Essex, England. Formed in 2016 by Spencer Owen as a group of mates playing exhibition games, we now play in the 9th tier of English football, the Essex Senior League. We won our league in our first season in non-league football and were looking good for a second promotion when the 2019/20 season was voided. We merged with AFC Basildon Women in summer 2020 and formed our women's team, Hashtag United FC Women, who play in the 4th tier of women's football. We also now have 40+ youth teams, reserve and development teams...and not forgetting our esports team of Tom and Shawrey, who play at the world's highest level. We're reading your comments and appreciate them as ever, but let's try to stay positive, Tags! There's a long way to go this season and the league was always our priority. Yes we're all disappointed but every team loses games and digging out individuals isn't what we're about, so we thought we'd address some of your points as it's not really up to Devs or the players to do that, it's our job. Let us know what you think below, but here's how we see it, with a glass half full mentality!
- this was a 0-0 against a really strong side who haven't lost in their league this season. They may be a step below at present (possibly not next season) but we know that you can't apply the same logic to non-league levels as you can to the Football League; there's a huge difference between standards in various leagues in different areas so you can't assume that teams from a step below are significantly worse. This was definitely not the case here; Devs mentioned that before the game. Both sides missed chances, but we all know that's football, especially when you're rusty and the surface is slippery!
- Cup formats this year are brutal, without extra time, and that's why we've seen so many non-league sides progress to the latter stages of the FA Cup. We benefitted from it ourselves, but this time we fell short; penalties are a lottery. We've all missed penalties, and both keepers did well.
- we hadn't played or even met together for a month. That affects teams in various ways; we were flying before the break and now need to regroup and get back up to speed...and we will!
- Smudger scored 26 goals last season and is on track to match or better that this season. The best strikers in the world miss chances! Last round, he scored one and set up the other...
- Sometimes there's far more context than you see in terms of who is or isn't playing, and why they may not come off the bench. This was definitely the case this game; Newby had an issue on the day which is why he couldn't start, Samraj was unavailable, and there's more unseen context with other players too.
We love football, and you guys on social media, because it gives everyone a chance to have their voice heard, so keep those comments coming, but let's try to stay positive for the sake of the team. We go again on Sat and want to build everyone's confidence so we can do what we set about to do at the start of this very strange season!
Tough loss against those faux pork lads, they were decent. But easier to focus on the league now. UP THE TAGS!!!!
The team you played looked very strong and all it took was one chance for us to go in (of course the same could be said for them). However, this team has bounced back SO many times and I've no doubt they will do so again
Infact looking on the bright side, the fact that we outdid ourselves in terms of expectations in both the VARS and the FA cup is an achievement in itself. Yes we were rusty in the final third but otherwise I though we played pretty well. Also we've been dominant in the league so I'm proud of what I've seen so far this season❤️Up the Tags!!
Wait why are people being salty here ? We are use to Hashtag dominating every game, I think this is just a shock to the system for the club and fans. Shocking fact is, Hashtag isnt going to dominate and win every game, we have to understand that.
I think the tags were good today. Sure, it wasnt the result we hoped for. But they hace just came off the back of a long break. Im sure theres more to come. UP THE TAGS

They are really harsh on Page aren’t they
reading some comments saying I was harsh on Page and I dont get it. Have listened to it back, sure I was critical of a few things he did but no more than anyone else (due to being very amped up for our big cup game), and in fact was very praising of some of the saves he made. I even gave him MOM as thought he was brilliant again for us! 🤷♂️ I am huge fans of all of our players and Page is no different, however I cannot lie and I say I dont get frustrated when they make mistakes as I want us to win just like we all do. I used to feel I was too bias to our boys on comms if anything so surprising to read what some of you think but will take it all on board regardless. See you Saturday! #UpTheTags
@Seb On Golf Literally says 'he's our best player on the pitch so far' so think you're just looking at the negative too much as oppose to the positive things that he says.
@@SebOnGolf There was no one else you could have given MOTM to, but you were by far more critical of Page then Keith or Smith who had shockers in this one and Page giving a chance for the team to actually win, and you literally can’t dispute that. There’s a reason there are multiple comments that criticise you for being harsh on Page

Believe me no one is more gutted than me when we lose but there’s far too much negativity in these comments for a team that’s lost one game from open play all season, top of our league and had a very good fa cup run. Very few teams win every game they play guys. I think some of you need to manage your expectations and work on your positivity. This is a fantastic team with fantastic people. Having a comments section is great and stands us apart, imagine what an Arsenal comments section on a game would be like after some of their recent performances, but I also have to protect the mental health of the people at my club so if we can’t start being a little more constructive with our criticism we may have to reconsider the comments section which is a shame because so many of you are great. How do you expect players, who are feeling down about the result too, to lift themselves up for the next game and be confident when all they see is negativity here? We are their supporters, let’s have their back and remember we’ve been the best team in our league 3 seasons in a row. That’s something to be happy about. We will have a lot tougher seasons than this trust me.
Well said, absolutely devastated about the game but the boys gave it their all and on another day we might have won. Been an unbelievable season so far and a rollercoaster of emotions! Am thankful to the team for giving us as fans the highs and lows. The lads are doing superb and the next game can't come soon enough! This team and club give me something to look forward to every week and midweeks and give up their own time and give a lot of dedication to playing and i'm ever thankful for it whatever the results! Up the tags! See you tomorrow!
Owning a club and supporting clubs you should know better than anyone Spence, negativity isn't necessarily a bad thing, it just needs context. Look at what you have accomplished with Hashtag, it's incredible. People went on that journey with you. People support Hashtag. They will be gutted when we lose. Why do you think people are negative? Do you think fans hate Hashtag? Or that we hate individuals? Of course some people want to troll, but we are negative because we care, if we didn't care we would not expect anything, we wouldn't get upset.
That game was unlucky, we've had the same before and will have more. The negativity should show how devoted and emotionally involved in this club. So you all, Devs, the team and the players take this in your stride and give something back to us next game.
I admit it isn't as bad as some people are making out. But it isn't acceptable either. So everyone needs to acknowledge the criticism and use that to drive their game. No excuses. Don't forget to # it.
Congratulations spencer..your a football team with a fanbase😂..negativity is gonna come when you develop.. look a all these big clubs that have players being criticised all the time..when you dont play well..you need to be prepared for what's to come from the fans...but I do agree that the comments are too negative..especially on poor George..which is kinda sad cause he's been banging in goals...

When I heard that the pitch is really big..I was like wheres osude?...people like him perform way better on huge pitches..gives them more space to make runs and get to throughballs.

Page is unbelievable. WHAT A PERFORMANCE. On another note, it still boggles my mind that George is starting. He isnt fast, he doesnt strike it well, he isnt good at pens, surely putting Honesty or Osude up top would be more effective. UTT

Not trying to hate on him but I don't understand how he's their number one choice, seems to miss a sitter every game. Sure he scores a decent amount but it should be far, far more. I feel like if Hashtag do get promoted they're going to need a better option for next season.

22:58 - I agree with Spen and Seb - Long run-ups for penalties are generally not good, as it gives the keeper more time to read your body language and your eyes.
Great effort from the lads! I think as a keeper, the somewhat negative comment about Page's breakaway save was pretty ignorant, but overall I think Seb was extremely and justifiably complimentary of him, so no harm no foul! Love the commentary and the great team spirit!
