Hi i love watching you both on UA-cam, I’m always laughing, we live in a residential park home, we you can stay in for every and you don’t have to get rid of it once it’s old , you can also pass it on to family when the time comes, I’m glad you have told people about the static as they are a lot different to residential park homes , keep up the good work x

We have a static caravan in mid Wales, been there 12 years previously to that we where in South Wales Swansea we had to move due to it taking 5 hours travelling one way. We love our static caravan. September last year we bought a motor home with the intention of travelling using the caravan as a base. Love your videos and might be trying the caravan site at Canock that you put up as it's about an hour from where we live. Happy holidays coming soon.😊

It’s a stunning view, we are very lucky
We have a 2022 794 Kon-Tiki Swift. Same system as you. Utilising the information from you guy's we will be definitely be getting it inspected before the warrantee runs out. Only last week had seven items cleared and more to go. Bus has done 1200 miles so far. Love the bus though and looking forward to seeing you both at the meet-up.

Just mentiond to our old girl what u said about that mould cleaner stuff for the curtains , ours are the same with specs of mould we tried just that Vanish spray but didnt work so will try that next time … thanks for the tip .. happy holidays 👍👍🇬🇧
Make sure you put something between the curtain and the lining before you spray it on, as it contains bleach, and then put straight on the washing machine, it removed all of ours ☺️☺️☺️

Hi Lynn & Rob, I have only just subscribed and started to watch your channel and fully enjoying, Just like to make a comment regarding your Alde heating issue, I think you went wrong when you just told them to go ahead and repair without getting the proof of the fault, I worked in management for many years for one of the worlds biggest motor companies in Europe and if a customer made a warranty claim then this would have a huge impact on the companies quality performance so if there is a way to lets say pass the blame on to the customer at the customers cost then they will do it. Just wish I found your channel 3 mths ago but in all honesty I think you have lost this battle but keep trying !

We loved our static but they aren’t cheap, organising 3 places (van, static and house) was a logistical nightmare.
We were v lucky when we sold as we made money (shortage of stock) but they are depreciating assets

@@RobandLynnontour we were v lucky. But we got an exceptional deal in the first place and had 8 fun years. Ours had a 25 year term but you did feel like the clock was ticking.

Lynn we have a holiday static which we spend 11 months in and mould is a problem especially net curtains thankfully the karcher is a good send for condensation ❤
Hi Mike, we use a Karcher everyday, and we do know that the calor gas fire creates more condensation, but it’s cheaper to use than purchasing gas through the site ☺️☺️

Have you thought that a small amount of corrosion may have already been in the boiler when you purchased the motorhome. Sometimes, even new vehicles stand around before the new owner takes delivery.

A great video as ever! Unbelievable how Alde are being now, I bet you are fed up of it. You should have been asked to sign a consent form to dispose of the old parts/boiler when the work was done. They may be in breach and it may be worth having a chat with a solicitor and in the first instance maybe the national caravan council. Usually you are given the choice as you can request to have the defective parts back in case of dispute, my parents did with an old Morco gas boiler in a caravan which stopped working. Good luck with the next steps, it does suggest to me there is something they don’t want to say, or there has been a cockup.
In terms of statics, I completely agree with what you say. My parents used to have a static at Dawlish Warren, and we bought ours at 4 years old with a 12 year pitch agreement. All was fine and the park was well managed until 2 years before the end of the agreement and Avondale (yes the caravan manufacturers of the past) went bust, and the site was sold. The new owner said ground rent would go up £500 a year until we all went off, so he could add new caravans. My parents challenged it and there was little they could do. In the end as the ground rent was too much but we loved our caravan, we paid and had it moved to North Devon to Westward Ho! And we had another few happy years but it was getting older, so every year my parents brothers and I were working every holiday and the ground rent situation came back as this time the owner wanted to sell the site for housing, so we cut our losses. We lost money on the caravan and was worth a pittance, and we hadn’t long finished paying it off. My parents said never again. I think after all that tourers and motorhomes are better, you haven’t got the tie, and ongoing costs and being at ransom of the site owner.

I think there are a lot of unhappy static owners out there, we do love where ours is, and as it’s a holiday home you have double the expense, so as Robert said we aren’t sure how long we will keep it for, the cost of living is going through the roof as you know, we will see.
It’s sounds like you had many happy years and made fantastic memories which at the end of the day is what counts.

Nice informative show, thanks guys. I’m very bull headed and would continue to push for answers re the boiler and even look for a free consultation with a solicitor. Re the van though, have you thought about selling the static and putting the money and your motorhome towards a huge a class motorhome? You could still travel no problem, you only park on sites so size would be no real problem, and you could also book a yearly camp site to park it on saving on storage fees as well.

Hi both, we followed a similar path to you, bought a static on the coast in Wales in 2010, it was 5 years old at the time with a 15 year lease, paid £22k for it, sold it back to the site in 2014 for £13k because we were worried about the 15 year lease, a week after we’d sold it we found out the site had re sold it for £30k and given another 15 year lease, yes your right you only ever lose money on them at a very fast rate. After that we bought a tourer and now we have the motorhome.
It’s a sad state of affairs, the static world is a minefield, we are on a lovely site.,but 18 years and you are off isn’t exactly fair, and like you say for the money you get and for the money they resell them for, and yes you do loose money at an incredible rate,
Sounds like you made the best move
We have three years left on our static in the Lake District so very similar situation to yourselves. When the fifteen years are eventually up we will have to pay for the caravan being remove from the site and the pitch cleared etc. We will be very lucky to get anything back after everything has been paid for. But we have thoroughly enjoyed our time with it and would recommend it to anyone providing they are fully aware of all the costs and possible pitfalls associated with owning a static caravan.
In regard to the lie heating. I would speak to Trading Standards and Citizens Advice to see what they recommend.

Hi both, love the channel. I do find it worrying that Alde aren't thinking 'Whoa! corrosion on one of our products after only 3 and a half years? We seriously need to investigate this' it is as if it is the most normal thing in the world to them. 🤔

Hi both, we managed to talk to Alde on the fri at the show(ours is nearly 4 years old) asked about the rust issues and was told what issues-in the end ours is going to them sept/oct for fluid change and health check🤞

Guys I work with chilled water systems and the fluid in ur Alde heating is called glycol and it has rust inhibitors in it so unless there’s loads of oxygen in the system which it’s open vented so highly unlikely i would think corrosion is highly likely…. If u want a professional opinion speak to a company called hydrotech who are down in Swansea… u can even send them a sample of alde fluid and they can test it to confirm it has anti corrosion inhiinhibitors in it… hope this info helps u

I bet your. Spring cleaning felt good, thank you for explaining all about your static, that was interesting. I worked out roughly what we pay for our on-site van to be approx $ 6400 Aud per year so not cheap, we have to pay for water and electricity.

Hi Lynn just some info on how you got rid of mould of your curtains did you spray with mould remover and leave to soak then wash them with mould remover soaked in or did you scrub the curtains first then wash random question I know 😂 loving the videos 😄
Hi, I put a bin bag between the curtain and the lining, sprayed the lining then put it straight in the washing machine on a 30 degree wash for 30 mins

I have just brought a van and it has an autoterm diesel heater and it’s fab would definitely recommend them also!

We own a static on a seaside holiday park, we’re lucky in the way there’s no time limit on how long we can keep it there. We love it but bought it for memories with the family not for the money lol, also we rent it out for 4 weeks in August which pays most of our site fees 😅

My family had a static van in Ayrshire only had a couple of years on that site ill heath forced them to give up and they offered to buy from them and it was a big drop in price they offered to remove from site for a substantial amount of money so i went and collected it with my wagon they now live in a chalet which they own the land its on

Honestly it’s awesome, we use it a lot when there are a few of us together, we can put it up and get it down in around 10 mins now, ( not like our first attempt 🤣🤣)

According to other channels it is stated that the correct antifreeze and corrosion inhibitor be added at 2 years from new and then every 5 years , is this a requirement from Aldi ??

Completely understand your frustration - our Fiat Ducato 9 speed auto motorhome has had a glow plug error surface after only just over two years (just out of Fiat warranty) and nobody can explain how or why this would happen after only two years and just over 8k miles. We had the stop start button alert and it turns out two exhaust sensors need replacing due to corrosion but the glow plug issue was found at the same time and it’s going to cost us almost £2k just to put it right again - this hobby is costing us a fortune!
Hi that’s unbelievable I’ll give you a tip regarding your stop start turn it off every time you use the van diesel engines really don’t like stopping and starting it just speeds the process of clogging sensors up 👍 also every couple of weeks keep it at around 2& half thousand revs in 3rd gear for about 15 minutes it will stop emissions building up 👍
@@RobandLynnontourthe funny thing is we didn’t even know there was a stop start button until the light started flashing so we had never used it. We don’t understand why glow plugs would go so soon unless they were faulty from the get go but the Fiat dealer just shrug their shoulders when I suggest this - I’m thinking of doing what Lynn did and writing to Fiat direct
@@RobandLynnontour Agreed on the Stop-Start system ....daftest idea ever on ANY engine....just unnecessary wear and tear on all components . But on a diesel: Madness....the DPF is having a meltdown-..... all in a vain attempt to reduce pollution. It's cobblers.

I don't know how you stand it Lyn. I watched The Jury did you? Now I can understand how people might do something drastic after getting all that "abuse' from their other half. Joke of course. You can use the flat coke for cleaning toilet and other things. I think that's horrendous that Alde said that. They should have asked to look at the boiler in the beginning when you told them about it. They must have an explanation for the fault and they should take some responsibility and reimburse you something of the cost. Well it was raining just now (Gloucestershire ) then it was hailstones so watch out over the weekend. Take care

Hi, my dog Amber is getting on and as you may know I've got 4, but she has me up all the time at home yet doesn't do it in the motorhome and neither do the rest, they have me frazzled 😂

Some channels state that the additive lasts 5 years for anti freeze but the corrosion chemicals in it only last for 2 !

Had a static from about 99 to 2004. Ground fees increased massively year on year, 1 year they increased the ground fees and then started charging for water and electric, was getting close to £4k even back then, also you could only have caravans up to 10 years old.
Unfortunately it’s getting worse, people just can’t keep finding that kind of money every year,

Yes I agree on stainless steel but the microwave has a film covering it so it doesn’t need it.

Hi guys, nice wee blog as usual and so disappointing to hear Alde's pathetic excuses to weadle out of this mess they have made. As I see it they have failed you in such a pathetic way. They had no right to tell the repairer to dispose of the old worn out parts, they were your property and it was up to you what happened to them. You have every right to demand them for inspection or disposal. A good lawyer would nail them to the floor on this point alone. They appear to have deliberately mislead you. Sad sad way to operate from Alde, they could well afford the cost of a new one, especially after all the good words you have said about them in the past. Good luck and I would have embarrassed the hell out of them on the Exhibition stand regardless of who was there. The more the better for me.❤

Honestly we haven’t ever told them we are on UA-cam, we didn’t want them to know we just wanted them to treat us as they would the general public.
Regarding the boiler. It may be possible to bring a case through the small claims court by suggesting the goods were "unfit for purpose". I believe you have up to 6 years to do this as I did after 4.5 years when an opticians refused to accept producing glasses I couldn't use. They replaced the item rather than go to court. Hope this helps..

Yes Alde should have made you a goodwill gesture towards the cost especially after 3.5 years. Social media can be crap but social media can be a great tool did u mention to Alde u have a UA-cam channel. Nothing like a negative review for a company especially when have done nothing wrong to make them have a rethink.

I totally agree there is a lot of negativity on social media, but some good can come out of it too, like our charity rally 🥰🥰and no, we haven’t told them, yet, as we didn’t want to be treated any differently to anyone else, we will make them aware of it when we meet them face to face, so we will see and let you know
When we get that cleaning mood 😁 😅 but does look & smell great after so well worth it,, you don't yawn because you are tired 😴 you yawn because it's lack of oxygen 😉 you yawn a lot after using energy so you'll yawn more, we do yawn when tired but not as much & seeing others yawn makes you yawn,, enough about yawning 😂😂 ❤ you have your home & you have the motorhome & so you could sell static & spend more time in motorhome but you'll definitely lose money on it 😢 my sister was on shardlow but she couldn't sell the public only to the park, disgusting rip off,, awesome vlog ❣️🔥🌹🥂

We had our first static for 21 years and last year we bought a new one. We don't have a after so many years get off or upgrade or buy new one. But they are costly to run. sometimes new doesn't mean better I have found this with a lot of modern cars. I hope you get some joy from them 3 1/2 years is very poor for a boiler to corrode that badly.

There is no reason they cannot indicate on a photo or cross section where the corrosion took place and the materials involved. I still think it is galvanic corrosion between aluminium and stainless steel components OR I don't know if this is true but I read that Alde did use steel in some boilers which would corrode much quicker.
That was actually what we would have expected, or at least some explanation, but nothing absolutely nothing,

Unless you agreed to a boiler exchange or scrappage the old boiler was, I would suggest, still your property and should have been returned to you. The materials still have a scrap value which you could have obtained to offset some of the bolier cost. I think they owe you. @Lynnontour

It's unlikely any individual member of the Alde technical team could give the exact number of corrosion damaged boilers repaired per year in the UK, off the top of their head. They could certainly advise of the jobs they've dealt with, which would differ from one team member to the next.
We only carry out repairs on 3010 and 3020 models, since the chassis for 3000 models (discontinued in 2006) are no longer available.
In both 3010 and 3020 the hot water cylinder is hygiene-grade stainless steel, the glycol cylinder is aluminium and stainless steel.
What can cause corrosion damage in the hot water cylinder?
Look out for poor water quality, especially high salt content. Anywhere that doesn't publish water quality figures, where the locals don't drink tap water, it is best to fill with bottled water. Always fill with potable water.
Remember, yachts and expeditionary vehicles have water filtration systems, because they often deal with poor water quality. Caravans and motorhomes (certainly those built for the UK market) do not.
Desalinated water, like that used in areas of Spain and Portugal will still have a high salt content. It may taste salty and leave a white residue in the kettle.
Salt corrodes stainless steel.
Sterilising chemicals not compatible with stainless steel. Some sterilising chemicals are not compatible with stainless steel and should be avoided. Some contain sodium hyperchlorite and chloride that is corrosive to stainless steel at normal temperature, aggressively corrosive when heated. Always read the label.
What can cause corrosion damage in the glycol cylinder?
The heat transfer fluid will accumulate some mineral content from the air, or if tap water is used will contain minerals.
These minerals will attack the aluminium surfaces in the glycol cylinder. For this reason the antifreeze used contains a corrosion inhibitor (or SCA). This coats the surfaces in the cylinder, forming a barrier against the minerals.
The barrier gets worn away eventually, hence antifreeze products are described as having a lifespan, after which they should be replaced.
To avoid corrosion, ensure that the heat transfer fluid is 50% ethylene glycol antifreeze and 50% clean water. The water hardness should not exceed the maximum stated by the antifreeze manufacturer. We recommend using deionised water (0 ppm hardness).
Ensure the heat transfer fluid is replaced before or soon after the antifreeze lifespan has expired. UK caravan and motorhome manufacturers use a 2 year antifreeze as standard. We recommend replacing with a 5 year VAG G13 spec antifreeze, such as Alde Premium G13, Comma Xstream GG40, Triple QX G13, or Motul Inugel G13.
In 2015 Alde repaired 10 corrosion damaged boilers of various ages, from a range of industries: caravan and motorhome, boat, and construction industries. Corrosion damage is costly to repair and can be avoided.

Lynn I would take a small claim out in County Court, that the Aldi heater was not fit for purpose, its not what a reasonable person would expect this to fail in such a short time. Ask Alid for proof of repair and disposal which they said you agreed. Don't let it go. X

It down right disgustingly the cost of these boilers all associated pipes and matrix should be made of stainless steel just my opinion sadly most motorhomes just break,stop working or fall to bits no matter the manufacturer or the price tag! And most dealers don't seem to understand the logistics involved with constant to and from never have a loan vehicle and just don't seem to give a dam your costly investment is off the road for weeks normally when you want to use them the most. Agreed, there are so many problems with new motorhomes, as we’ve said so many times it’s wrong that we “expect” things to go wrong, if you paid that much for a car for example you wouldn’t, it’s just bloody wrong.

We have really thought about this, the only problem we can see is that it floods, so it couldn’t be positioned underneath, so we will have to find space in the static, but I’m sure it would work and be better than using calor or gas central heating

No we agree, that’s why we don’t think we have a strong case
A little suspicious as to why Alde couldn't tell you what part they replaced and why it had to be replaced, they say it was thrown away but they new what had to be replaced and must have known why. I doubt this was a one off .Maybe it's a design fault that they don't want disclosed as it could affect many other boilers and claims.

Sorry I hadn't watched til the end, but I see so many what we call in the states manufactured homes. I agree they deteriorate fast and are hard to repair things. Like I can no longer find things like propane heater, fridge, central heat, esp. if you are near the sea air it will rust all the components. Easier to work on timber frame that is what I learned. Frustrating, especially when something goes on ya car the mechanic shows you the failed part, proceeds should be the same . For all you know could have been a faulty pipe or join so quite surprised they replaced the whole thing. In my mind they should have ran it up , found the leak and photographed the part for you as you request. If it was the tank/boiler leaking then Alde should have done the same once they had received the tank . I think there should be a mobile Alde engineer that contracts to MH dealers like salop so that an inspection can be done at same time with everything ran up and pressurised . Maybe something you could recommend to them . I'm in same living as you , had my static for 8 years now , love it , got rid of the house and live in it , no mortgage , bbbrillliant. Alot of people , retired live in them for most of the year and then go abroad if there's a shut period . Little tip , I've put a diesel heater in mine , it's perfect and keeps the gas bill down 👍

Hello your claim is with the dealer. Not Aldi. As for a claim the question is wether it's common for the boiler to break in such a manner within the time you have had the motorhome. Personally I would advise your dealer that you will take legal action to recoupe your losses if they don't at least pay 50 % towards your losses. It's difficult to cause bad feelings, but I feel the dealer is shirking his responsibility.
PS we full-time, sold up 4 years ago, sold up in the UK and France.
Sadly many people ( we know of some) that wait too long and never realise their dream.

I am appalled that Alde, will not even give you a verbal explanation as to how this can happen in such a short timeframe. They could easily ask the mechanic who did the work what had happened. The damage must have started within the period of the warranty and they should explain what steps they are taking to stop this happening in future.
