That drawing was SO helpful and helped me understand how the little loops work and how they're actually structured. Even 4 years on, this video is helping people!!
The animated view of fixing the dropped stitch is extremely helpful because I could see the anatomy of the stitch. I am now no longer terrified. Thanks!
Hi, this is a really helpful explanation! It's actually a little bit easier with crochet hooks, so I recommend everyone gets just a standard size one for these situations. I loved the graphics, everything is so much easier once you (me) understand the anatomy of your knitting, thank you so much!!
dropping stitches is half of my stress when knitting. I'd usually unravel it but now you've given me the idea to use a crochet hook to fix it instead of throwing my project across the room. thanks
Thank you, Ryan. I almost always drop a stitch, or two, in every project and I have used your method most of the time. When the arthritis kicks up, I use a crochet hook. I go back into the stitch with the knitting needle to match the stitch gauges as best as I can. The colorful video drawing is great !!!
I was having so much trouble trying to learn how to knit with no luck, you have by far the most comprehensive, easy to follow tutorial. Bless your heart! 💕
I just started knitting today and dropped one of my loops on my first ever row and NEARLY threw it away, in 3 minutes you saved my knitting experience, thank you!
Great illustration. The best I've seen. I would like to add that it's much easier to pull it through with a small crochet hook. I will usually keep a tiny one on hand to fix my dropped stitches in a pinch.
This SAVED MY LIFE!! You have no idea how many projects I have torn out and restarted it have you on because I dropped a stitch! I didn’t even know you could do this until I saw your video pop up💗💗💗 thank you
THANK YOU SO MUCH I'm new to knitting and I was wondering how you deal with this. Cause in chrochet if your project unwinds you just pick it back up and keep going without needing to do anything special. By the way if you have a crochet needle I recommend using it here. Much easier lol
Your a wonderful teacher! I crochet but want to learn to knit. I knew this was a must watch video, you mentioning crocheting helped me understand it more and I’m confident I can fix a dropped stitch now
I've had to do this a couple times but had forgotten what exactly to do. So I came hunting for the video I used last time and stumbled across your channel. Fantastic explanation!! I do remember the last video I saw about dropped stitches saying to use a small crochet hook to help bring the bars through the loops. And it is definitely much easier. But this is a great video to explain what needs to be done.
I'm happy that I already had knowledge about this. I clicked on the video expecting something different from what I do, but I do what you do. Made me feel like a professional! I keep a crochet hook on me when I knit just in case I drop a stitch now...
I have a set of cheap crochet needles just for this purpose 😂 with a crochet hook it’s super easy to pick up dropped stitches. I’m currently knitting a fuzzy red sweater for Christmas; the fuzzy yarn is so slippery I’m dropping stitches all the time 😮 crochet hook to the rescue!! ETA to say use a crochet hook that’s slightly smaller than your needle size. It makes picking up the loops extremely easy. That’s why I bought my cheap $5 set of hooks, so I could get the right size of crochet needle anytime.
One can also go behind the bar above the dropped knit stitch, and pull the yarn over with the nonworking needle.. or pick the dropped stitch up with the working needle and lift the “bars” over with the nonworking needle.
Hi, there! Any chance you would be willing to make an updated video on combining knit and purl stitches? I'm still trying to grasp the purl stitch completely, so I got a little lost with the speed knitting in that video! Thanks!
Purl is exactly the same sort of thing as knit stitch, the only differences are you bring the yarn over to the front, and you put the needle DOWN the stitch to be worked with instead of up. Then wrap the yarn round the needle you're working with and pull the loop through instinctively..
Hi I'm newly subscribed I'm from the north east uk I struggle more than ever since I started having seizures unfortunately and it's left me a little douthful with learning but I know I can do it. So far I've learned from you. Casting on, dropped stitch, casting off. Id like to understand how to read knitting patterns but what my biggest struggle is at the moment is trying to knit a chunky wool blanket and I'm not sure how to achieve it stitches measurement etc :( thanks for keeping it simple you're amazing.
Make life easier for you is to get yourself a paper clip so you can grab the stitch and then use the needle. Paper clips can also be helpful in crocheting. but I must let you know you are also my goto guy for crocheting. Thank you so much.
Need to know to move the thread when knitting and purling. I try and it's a big mess. Or I go slowly moving thread back and forth and it takes forever. Help Ryan!
What do I do if, through a series of unfortunate events, I don’t notice the dropped stitch until I’ve knitted several more rows? Do I just have to give up the project?
This is me too!! Ugh Edit: I don't know if you figured yours out, but I watched Rox Knits's video on fixing holes and adapted it! My dropped stitch fell, so I laddered it back up, then took a piece of yarn, went through the dropped stitch, then went through a few surrounding stitches to secure it in place. I just tied the extra yarn in a tight knot and snipped it off, and now I can barely see the problem!
My problem is I have a dropped stitch run down a column of KFB raglan increases to 3 or 4 rows below. Now I’m stuck on how to pick up the stitches so I have all the increases in place
Love your vids! I’ve dropped a stitch on my first row, so I don’t have anything below to collect if that makes sense? I’ve just cast on and then am working through my first row (of ribbing too! Not just basic knit). Is there a way to pick back up from this stage?
@Good Day Look up how to create a lifeline. I like using colorful embroidery floss the width of my work + 6 inches and rotate 2-3 lines by pulling the one at the bottom and reusing it.
I dropped mine at beginning for like 5/6 rows and didn’t notice it and I have like 8 more rounds above it that closed the gap is there any salvaging this?
Hello , how are u ! ,,, I love your vedios😍 , i whant your help 😅I have shawl knitting pattren its a chart 😑🙈 I dont know how to read it , I will send it if its ok for u !! Plz let me know
I think you should redo video and use a crochet hook instead of just saying it’s easier with a hook. Because it IS easier and new knitters should see this in action!
That drawing was SO helpful and helped me understand how the little loops work and how they're actually structured. Even 4 years on, this video is helping people!!

0:35 "hopefully helpful little animation I've done..." proceeds to make the most helpful illustration I've seen
This is super helpful. I've lost count of how many times I've dropped stitches and given up knitting the project
Ditto!
I don’t give up. I keep on going, but it looks ugly 😭. Oh well! Now I know for next time

I know how to do this but I wanted to say how fantastic your drawings are and am glad I watched.

*How can people dislike this wonderful angel sent from heaven❤❤❤*

Learning to knit from ur channel after crocheting for several years! This animation made me GASP in a good way it's so helpful thanks a million!!
This SAVED MY LIFE!! You have no idea how many projects I have torn out and restarted it have you on because I dropped a stitch! I didn’t even know you could do this until I saw your video pop up💗💗💗 thank you
Thank you for putting in all that effort on making the animation, it was super helpful!
Dear RJ I have just picked up knitting -this is a life saving hobby and you are perfect - I love your videos
THANK YOU SO MUCH I'm new to knitting and I was wondering how you deal with this. Cause in chrochet if your project unwinds you just pick it back up and keep going without needing to do anything special. By the way if you have a crochet needle I recommend using it here. Much easier lol
That animation was so perfect to learn from! The way you teach is much more effective than most other knitting tutorial stuff. Thank you.
Your a wonderful teacher! I crochet but want to learn to knit. I knew this was a must watch video, you mentioning crocheting helped me understand it more and I’m confident I can fix a dropped stitch now
This is great. Up until now, I've always just used the first method you mentioned. I'll have to give this a shot!

*I love your videos so much you deserve 1 million+ subscribers You have been working so hard these past few years*
Honestly, your videos are so so helpful. They are the only ones that make sense!!

Thanks! The drawing really helps because I never notice right away and I’ve pretty much given up knitting for crochet because of that.
Thank you as a brand new knitter this is very helpful!
thank you. this has saved me from so many tears

I love the editing in your videos! The animations are on point too👌🏼
A crochet hook would definitely be handy to have on hand for these.

This helped! Namaste 🙏🏻
Great graphics.
This was so helpful, thank you!! :) Could you do a tutorial on how to knit intarsia in the round? I've been trying (and failing lol) to figure it out
Hi... RJ KNITS... what tools did you use to make knitting graphics
Hi! Can you do a video on how to do the moss stitch? Thank you :)
I’ve been tempted to try to keep use a small scorcher hook
Need to know to move the thread when knitting and purling. I try and it's a big mess. Or I go slowly moving thread back and forth and it takes forever. Help Ryan!

where did you get your needles from?
My problem is I have a dropped stitch run down a column of KFB raglan increases to 3 or 4 rows below. Now I’m stuck on how to pick up the stitches so I have all the increases in place
I love your videos cuz you explain so well, can you please do a tutorial of the harry styles cardigan?
Wonderful. Thank you.

I need help using a circular knitting needle!!!
I tend to throw away my knitting in frustration when i screw up the lace portion! 😳😳
@Good Day Look up how to create a lifeline. I like using colorful embroidery floss the width of my work + 6 inches and rotate 2-3 lines by pulling the one at the bottom and reusing it.

случайно попала к вам на канал! С удовольствием смотрю видео!
Most tutorials show using a crochet hook. Does not work for me.
Super useful! Well done. :-)
0:07 This is exactly what I did
Please make a tutorial on what to do when you accidentally make extra stitches. Thank you.
Drop the problem stitch on purpose and work it back up with a crochet hook.
More animations. Please

Just use a crochet hook for this. 😉
Hey handsome. How are you doing?
