      Well half of it. It tipped over in rough seas and hit the deck with the upper half breaking off and going into the drink. Appears the engines are fine so there's that.

    SpaceX's 95th launch of the year! They were shooting for 100, but are (unfortunately) gonna come up 1 or 2 (or so) short due to scrubs, delays, and so on. The analysis on this launch (StarLink 6-32) says "93rd launch of the year", but that doesn't include their 2 StarShip launch attempts this year (so far), so they've really had 95 overall launches, 93 of which were successful and made it to orbit (so far).
    At present, there are FOUR MORE SpaceX Falcon 9 or Falcon Heavy launches scheduled before 12/31/2023! How will they do? How will their record wind up? This booster, on StarLink 6-32 just set records, having been launched and recovered NINETEEN (19!) times! Originally, they had designed and certified Falcon 9 for up to 10 launches. When they hit that, they got to "Recertify" those boosters for 15 launches. They passed that this year, and are now recertifying boosters to fly up to TWENTY (20!) times! That saves SO MUCH time, effort and materials in terms of not having to keep building so many launch vehicles!
    These factors have driven the cost of space down to the point where when SpaceX does one of their "Rideshare" missions, they are literally able to offer a ride to space for a bunch of school kids to be able to launch a small satellite for less than $1.50 per pound to Low Earth Orbit!
    Cost to launch: $67M
    Payload to LEO: 22,300kg
    Actual cost per lb. $1.34 to LEO
    Based on figures from NextSpaceFlight web site.

      BTW - thanks to @NSF folks for great coverage, as always! This just NEVER gets old, nice crackle on this launch, and interesting to see so much soot inside the rocket at staging!

    Can someone speak to the issue of why the early launches had 60 satellites/lunch? Then 57 while 'ride sharing" now "23"/????? 60 clear up to 23 "what's up with that"??

    • @highpointsights
      @highpointsights 8 місяців тому

      are the satellites bigger? not leaving sufficient room in the fairing???

    • @aerostorm_
      @aerostorm_ 8 місяців тому +1

      @highpointsights they are launching starlink version 2 (V2) now. They are much larger and intended for launch on starship. Falcon is launching a slightly smaller version of the V2 that is compatible with its fairing.
