I see that many in the comment section are saying this guy looks like Cyrus Johnson. To me, there are some similarities between them, but they still look very different, so I don't know if people just have "cross-race effect" or I just have OCD.
As for being civilized, I don't know if he saw a video that recently got viral in China, in which a large group of the "lost generation" elderlies went onboard a cruise ship and exhibited their messy but "civilized" behaviors? Like you said, people in China are a mixed bag of beans in terms of "being civilized".
Lastly, if China is doing so well and the US is getting worse, why has there been a drastically increasing amount of illegal migrants from China at the southern border recently? 😂

COLUMBUS, Ohio - A growing number of Chinese scientists working in the United States and other parts of the world are returning to their homeland, enhancing China's research productivity.
In a new study, researchers found that more than 16,000 researchers have returned to China from other countries since that nation has opened up to international engagement. More than 4,500 left the United States for China in 2017 - nearly double the number who left in 2010.
These foreign-trained researchers are helping grow China into a scientific powerhouse, said Caroline Wagner, co-author of the study and associate professor in the John Glenn College of Public Affairs at The Ohio State University.
"In our lifetime, China has joined the global scientific community to become world-class in a number of critical fields, such as AI and materials science," Wagner said.
"As more of their researchers return home, that rise is going to continue."

the pollution in the air looks like is the same it was in the 1990's and mid 2000's when I was living there intermittently, the reality of throwing manpower everywhere outside of shanghai is still happening. logistics supply has improved someplaces but nothing significant. EVs have been dumped on the domestic and international market... they seem to have a 10~25 % failure rate too depending on make, so they last up to 24 months... the air! dud look behind you? and sorry, china is not a comparison to Japan to social interaction and behaviours. They care for no one but themselves...domestic violence is rife just as a start... no foreigners as the ccp is pushing them out du to the ccp clumping together the country the people and the government as a same entity in their propaganda... to lift nationalism... the internal propaganda has done well to pull the wool over chinese eyes. they will see through it eventually. the ccp control has increased significantly to the point that if you grow the wrong crop on the land you use (remember you cannot own a house or land in ccp controlled territories) they will pull the crop up and destroy or confiscate it.

Of course it's improved. PM2.5 concentrations have fallen by about 50% in the past decade. But this does not mean that the problem is solved, the air quality is very good now, and there is still a big gap compared with other countries. In China, industrial capital is dominant, while financial capital is weak. Industrial upgrading and industrial transformation are urgent needs in recent years. It is necessary for low-end industries to transform into technologically innovative and environmentally friendly industries. In addition, whether the production of new energy vehicles or oil vehicles will produce pollution, but the pollution of new energy vehicles is basically generated in the manufacturing process, and the pollution is more concentrated and controllable. The pollution in Northeast China is really a big problem, and I think there are two main reasons. One reason is that the North-East needs chronic heating and that some officials (who were also busted the year before) bought low-quality coal. The other reason is that the annual spring sandstorms, especially in April, come mainly from the uninhabited desert of the Gobi in southern Mongolia. Even if a lot of vegetation is planted, it will not stop the sand storm unless the desert is completely wiped out.

If you have kids, have traveled in NYC, and struggled to find public toilets when they needed to go, then you would be pleasantly surprised with modern Chinese and Japanese cities where clean public toilets are conveniently located for all to use. That's the point Molson Hart was trying to make. That's what he meant when he said that China has caught up to Japan - and it's 10x the size of Japan. Let that fact register.

There are people paid to clean cities, in my wife's village garbage collection started in 2024. Before that is was choose a hill to dump it down, each household using a different piece of hill. It's going to take some serious cleaning to fix China.

There are plenty of recent videos from non-Chinese UA-camrs who visited Shanghai. Check them out to compare. How often are the skies of NYC or LA clear and blue vs hazy? California has 1 of the strictest clean air regulations in the US - for good reason. Compare movie scenes of LA or NYC from the 1980s or 1990s to more recent videos, and you will see a noticeable difference in visible air pollution. Pollution reduction regulations and the technologies developed to meet those requirements do make a difference.

The problem with nationalism is, it allows people to vent ANY frustrations they have in their lives on foreigners. Having a bad day? Say something rude to a foreigner. Want to impress your new girlfriend? Say something rude to the foreigner. It's heart-breaking that the CCP pushed this. They knew foreigners would be on the receiving end of aggression, but they pushed it just to keep relations with them and their subjects sweet.

@chopsticksandtrains I just looked up the exact same air quality website you used. The air quality I saw was nowhere near as bad. The majority of the cities are only "moderate." Granted, it is still much worse than developed regions like Europe or North America. However, you have to consider that cities in China are much denser in population, and China manufactures nearly half of the products for the entire world. If you have any idea how bad the air quality was 20 years ago (the air in some smaller industrial cities literally smelled like sewage water), you would start to appreciate how far they have come. You seem to be focusing more on the present state, while I focus more on the "rate of change" or the trajectory it is heading.

I want this because another YT creator went on a walk in NYC with such a camera, I think worn on his head, and it made for a more engaging video for me as a viewer because as he walked and talked I was able to pan around to see things not even the creator noticed during his filming.

I'd say the big change in air quality I've seen was between 2016 and 2018, it went from horrible to bad, from there it was quite the same until the time I left at the end of last year, not sure what he's rambling about about his 5 year gap, etc... Like Japan? What kind of cr**k is he smoking? Last time I was there was in October 2023, during the golden week (cuz after having been attacked, on the street, in Beijing, by a clearly deranged nationalist, about a week before the 2019's 70th anniversary parade, I had sworn to myself to never spend another national holiday in this wretched place... Then covid happened so I had to sadly wait until fall 2023 to be able to travel during the national holiday week), I can confirm that it was still day and night, just like it was last I went prior to that in 2019. So two completely different planets when it comes to politeness, courtesy, helpfulness, manners, common sense, cleanliness, selfishness, etc... Now, the 3 years of covid in Ch were quite close to a hellish nightmare, employers screwing people over, over the top micro-management, friends leaving, others dying (abroad and in China), etc... Basically the foreigners that were there really became everybody's punching bags to let it out, at least in Beijing, since criticizing the authorities went from being bad, to extremely dangerous, so yeah things really have gotten worse on that aspect since the pandemic.
He may be having weird ass wet farts over facial recognition systems and other "automated" services that have been rolled out on a bigger scale because of the pandemic, but it just tightens the gvt's grip on ordinary people's lives... To me a guy like that doesn't care about people at all! Just the propaganda against "paper" money up till my departure, it had became to be borderline subversive when paying cash... What if you lose your phone? It falls in a gutter? It breaks? you get robbed? You know, I had my wechat payment blocked for almost 3 weeks in 2022 because I changed passport 3 years before... I mean I had changed everything with my banks and all, but that platform, the one the whole country became dependant on, never contacted me to ask me for a document update, or else it was gonna be blocked, or anything! Once I updated it they took almost 3 weeks to "verify", I was dependant on taxis at that time because I worked in a very remote area where you need to take a cab after the last subway station... And Beijing, unlike other metropolis in the world (including Guangzhou, Shanghai, SZ, etc) is a place where hailing a taxi on the street is practically impossible for some weird-ass reasons... :/
It may have been a bit cleaner on the air side last fall, but with the undisclosed number of people who died during covid, the ones who left and never returned to the capital (way less migrant workers and "bag" people than before the pandemic... Or just consider the ones who died early 2023 when the whole country became ill all at once (I used to live in a central area and at some point I counted between 40-50 ambulances a day for a couple days during the Dec '22/Jan '23 peak... That's those I was noticing when I was home, and not asleep. And for the average viewers of your chanel reading this, there are few hundreds hospitals in cities like Beijing, so these numbers gotta be multiplied by A LOT!).
Also how employment has been, there was significantly less traffic on the road when I left and the subway seemed less crowded (all in Chinese standards, which means it's still congested and crowded af!).
I can confirm your comments about your partner having to take pay cuts, many of my friends working in both the public, or private sector, have taken huge pay cuts, some got "kept" by their companies with minimum wellfare salary (close to 1500kuai or smth like that) and kept working, basically without pay, for houkou reasons, others just went back to their hometowns... Few entrepreneur friends have seen their business slumping bad (mostly gvt clients... no money), and the few i've been talking to recently have been extremely depressed and are seriously thinking of leaving the country. Other Chinese friends with kids have suddenly discovered that their children don't need to have a million classes after school and during the weekend, of course they say it,s for the benefit of their kids and that they should be less stressed, which I'm sure they do believe in... But having spent roughly 10 years there, there's a bit of "face thing" going on where they won't admit too much that finances are getting tighter, and the future is grim, so overspending isn't wise...
That being said, because of my experience and some values I cherish a lot, I have a rather negative opinion of China as a nation, but again, I don't wish anything bad, even to the nationalist morons, everybody is a victim to a certain degree over there... This guy is a total farce! As you say so well, the uncivilized will never change and don't give a rat's butt about big red banners with slogans about "clean plate struggle" or "proper dog poop habits" on random fences or city busses, and the civilized ones will always be swamped by the rest, despite their good intentions and efforts... And many are probably getting ready to leave, if they haven't already (so many people I knew who never really talked about leaving suddenly left with no intention of returning last year... I was quite surprized hahaha).
I'm rambling now... But this guy sounds like a freakin' douche and i'm much tempted to open a twitter account just to go confront and troll him... Gonna go check your Japan vids later ;)

You have a half bottle of water. Some will say it's half full, and some will say it's half empty. People have prejudices, they saw what they saw depending on where they were coming from. This applies to the air quality problem and everything you said in the video, just a bunch of bs. You can literally say the same thing about any country. It has no concrete meaning. Can we just talk about the poops, pees, needles, rudeness and violence in LA or other US cities?
If you are unhappy about this CEO guy, why don't you make a video on serpentza and laowai86? They are talking about the real China. I truly recommend anyone who are interested in China to watch their videos. Their channels are amazing. Nobody can even get close to these two guys in term of exposing the essence of journalism. Your videos are a little bit of less amazing in term of garnering views, tbh.

    Mr. CS, good stuff.
Gotta wonder about a guy who’s so high on himself he expects reasonable people to fully accept him and his shitty history, which full disclosure, I skipped.
To me, he sounds like a guy from a city on the down and outs, like Detroit more than someone from an up and coming city like Austin. In the former, barbers closed up shop because their clientele moved to Austin while in Austin, barbers are charging $45 for a standard hair cut, which is not bad for 10 minutes of work.
Anyway, please be careful when looking to pin any perceived failures or successes on any given President.
IMO, there have been failures but they stem from Congress members who value local constituents over national interests and bring to my mind the axiom “I am their elected leader, I must do what they the constituents want.”

The homeless and drug addiction problem in the US are real. I wish China would stop trying to flood the US with fentanyl - that would be a friendly thing to do. They are working with the Mexican cartels to get fentanyl into the US.
