"Dies irae" czyli "Dzień gniewu" jest refleksyjną sekwencją napisaną u schyłku XII i początku XIII wieku. Śpiewa się ją (według tradycyjnej liturgii Świętego Kościoła) m.in. podczas Mszy Świętych w dniu śmierci i pogrzebu.

Il Dies Irae è tra le più meravigliose composizioni mai scritte nel gregoriano. Melodia nostalgica e solenne al tempo stesso. Testo profondissimo, severo e pieno di umiltà al tempo stesso 🙏

My 8th grade class was assigned to sing at parish funerals and I loved this melody but I guarantee that we never sang more than a verse or 2. This hymn, perfectly appropriate--is INCREDIBLY long

This music reminds me of the afternoon of 23 July 2043, when the slowly rising waters of the Thames gradually crept across the hallowed ancient stone floor of Waltham Abbey, with no-one there to stop the rising waters because this was exactly one week after the Hydrogen Bomb meant for London fell short by some 20 miles and hit the Dartford area instead. The huge crater wall it raised up dammed the Thames which then rose behind until by late August it had found a new outlet to the sea north along and up the Lea valley and into what was once known as Cambridgeshire. Then the nuclear winter arrived and no river flowed as freezing temperatures descended across Europe, with 3 feet of snow in Venice by mid November. The good citizens of Dartford were of course the fortunate ones, for they did not live to see the last humans compete with wolves and bears across Europe for the remaing few scraps of food, and those wolves and bears soon arrived in Britain too as the sea level fell and glaciers advanced to consume where Barcelona once stood. And the bears and wolves were much better at obtaining food than the last few radiation ravaged people were.....
