You know what we say here in the audience of the EEVBlog... "Don't tear it down, plug it in, turn it on and broadcast your UA-cam channel on analog TV!" :-)
***** Wire? Wire? Luxury lad. Back in our day, we had to use string and all we had to dampen it with were our tears. You try telling this to the kids of today though... (;-)
Inb4 the guy is one of Dave's old mates and the theatrics are there to keep us glued to the channel even more. I think the Channel 7 bug has escaped the transmitter and infected Dave...
lol when the big guy realized you were in the facility. You are VERY lucky to get those, they might be worth something for the collectors of that type of thing :)
Our closest TV transmitter is called "Emley Moor" and is a 330m concrete tower. You can't get very close to it though. It used to transmit analog TV with nearly a jiggerwatt of power, nearby houses didn't need TV antennas :-)
ah, yes you are right, I had misread something a while ago, my bad... *"Analogue television transmissions from Emley Moor have now ceased permanently. BBC Two analogue closed on 7 September 2011 and ITV1 temporarily moved onto its frequency at the time to allow BBC A to launch in its place. The remaining four analogue services closed on 21 September 2011."*
Thank you, I never seen a analog TV transmitter that close in my life even in my country. Finally I can take a look at the component in the transmitter.
Can't wait for that facility tour! Kind of reminds me of a time I was walking by some techs working on the traffic light control box. Just walked up to them and went: "Hi, I'am a geek, what you got in there?" Got a tour of the whole control cabinet, programing terminal and everythng! It's amazing what you can get just from asking.
With the complete chain of amps you could've branched out of youtube and started to broadcast EEVblog on channel 7! Ok, perhaps your solar panels would be somewhat inadequate to supply enough power but talk about "pirate TV" :D
I worked in a TV station, was a Channel 7 too, by the way I am from Mexico, good memories came when I see the transmitter, was quite the same, can´t wait to see the teardown!
You totally, completely and utterly piss me off and shatter myself self respect......"$%&^&%%$^%^....LOL!!. Great score and I, as an analog amp Tech myself, look so forward to watching this teardown Dave. Well, some of us have it and some us don't. I like watching the ones whom do. I can't wait to see what else you're going to walk in the door with. Ask and you shall receive! Just Fantastic!!!!!!
A mailbag videóit bírom a legjobban :D EEVblog #556 - Mailbag De az 555. videónak (555 pólóban) feltöltött mindent az 555 timerről gigavideó is ötletes.
Stunning looking technology! What is this all of this copper tubing and square black ducks? In another video on UA-cam, the same type of transmitter has been filmed working and it's a lot of noise like 5 big industrial HVAC compressors and fans working together! So, I also notice the same squared elbow copper tubing with huge black ducking... What is this? New digital transmitters seem ugly towards this old transmission technology! :)
I work for Channel 7 Broadcast Engineering. To think of all the NEC and Rohde & Schwarz units we just threw out :( End of an era. I might have some other cool stuff lying around here you'd probably like to tear down Dave. Also...I hope people realise they cant just wander into transmission sites quite like that lol :)
The station I work at bought two NEC transmitters for VHF channel 11 back in the mid 1980's and they were on 24/7 until our analog shutoff a few years ago. The antenna was a "CP" antenna or "Circular Polarization" with one transmitter for each direction, horizontal and vertical. I think the idea was that it wouldn't matter as much how your antenna was oriented. Here's our shutoff: ua-cam.com/video/qgnAQVg_rME/v-deo.html
I can just imagine the initial situation : The Gorilla : Hey hey, what are you doing here ? The Dave : Well, I just want to take your workplace apart, does it sound ok for you ?
We can't say Gorilla in english ? (In french we say that about tall and muscular guys working as bodyguard, security agent, keeper, etc... absolutely not pejorative or intelligence related or anything else, sorry if it was interpreted wrong)
Wow, you take it too harsh, if you've read wat I've answered first you'll notice there's nothing pejorative or anything in it... Anyway, I don't care, you take it bad even after explaining that it wasn't bad at all, well, great for you.
And in that case you should be really pissed off by a lot of things, yankee's, crazy aussie, etc "But they are people too :'(". In summary, you're totally off topic...
You know what we say here in the audience of the EEVBlog...
"Don't tear it down, plug it in, turn it on and broadcast your UA-cam channel on analog TV!" :-)
he still needs an antenna^^ (and perhaps a license?...)
Maximilian Mustermann Small piece of wire will do the trick i'm 150% sure!

Looking forward to the teardown and tour videos.
Top man for having the balls to just rock up and ask them for their old gear, love it.
lol when the big guy realized you were in the facility. You are VERY lucky to get those, they might be worth something for the collectors of that type of thing :)
Having worked at a TV station from 1960-1963, I'm anxious to see what an Aussie station from recent times looks like. Good score Dave

It used to transmit analog TV with nearly a jiggerwatt of power, nearby houses didn't need TV antennas :-)
...and its not in use now! Digital switchover switched it off. Its a phone mast now.
***** Which idiot told you that? Without Emley Moor, most of Leeds would be without terrestrial TV!
ah, yes you are right, I had misread something a while ago, my bad... *"Analogue television transmissions from Emley Moor have now ceased permanently. You (and those people) are awesome! Thanks!

A fickó egy nagy gyerek. Egyébként az tényleg kész hogy odaadták neki. Mondjuk végül is 30 éves hardver és amúgy sem lehet már használni. :-)
