- 2023 we are ringing in the new year with an emergency order from the state of California to shelter in place due to a life-threatening storm leading to major historic flooding in our city... I have never seen anything like this in my entire life.

My name is Jess! I had a daughter (Lilia) at age 18 w/ my high school sweetheart. We mutually split up & co-parent to this day. I met someone new, got married, had twin boys (Kyson & Kaden) and another son (Landen). He cheated, we split ways, & he’s not around much. After juggling life as a single mom of 4 for some time, I met Chris, he had 2 sons: Caden and Tommy, who eventually became my step sons. After Chris and I got married, we had our 7th child together, Addelyn. When all the boys were walking down the stairs together like that all I could think about is that you are gonna have 5 teenage boys all very close in age agh. What a time , so fun! Jess you are the best mom!

Love seeing the weather in other places and states! I live in PA so we get it all. Rain can get very messy and very damaging but it's very normal here. It's eye opening and kind of a learning experience seeing how other people react.
The boys Lion King song and dance routine was epic! I would have given them more time to play video games with that performance as well! 💗 I hope that your family is staying safe as even more rain is headed your way this upcoming weekend. 💞
Glad you all weren’t really impacted by the bad weather and flooding. I imagine since CA doesn’t experience it often, the systems in place for that aren’t the best. Just like us here in NC when it snows lol
California usually can handle rain. The problem is there has been severe drought for so long, coupled with the forest fires, makes the risks for major flooding and mudslides much higher than it would be if California hadn’t been in a severe drought for so long.

Here in Queensland Australia this is a normal . Its summer very hot and humid with big storms and can often get flooding like that( is small for us) .
When I hear a national weather warning I literally am screaming in my head because it makes me 😱😱😱😱😱
I live by a lake and we get flooding alerts all the time. Its interesting to see all your reactions to the emergency alert on tv cause here we are so used to it.

I loved when the boys made up this whole dance just to beg to play video games. Me and my two friends did that twice, one for a sleepover (it worked 😂) and the second time to go shopping (it worked) I think it works because it makes the parent laugh and see how much fun their having and just say yes but idk haha! Must have been scary with so much rain and flooding! I guess California just isn’t very good at handling a lot of water! It was raining in Pennsylvania on new years too.

Jessica, I saw the news reports about bad California weather that's happened as we've eased into 2023. The Atmospheric River has happened multiple times during & after the holiday season. I learned about the Bomb Cyclone. I'm from the Eastern Time Zone. I started a new year 3 hours before you did. On the 4th day of the year, the weather stormed in Georgia. I'm phobic of thunder and lightning. My house wasn't destroyed. I didn't lose power. There were multiple tornadoes in the South.

We constantly get storms that are pretty intense in Queensland Australia. It’s not unusual for us every summer to have streets completely flooded.

I totally slept through the whole entire storm that night it hit. We didn’t have much flooding north of Sac. But I heard you guys did, especially off of 99. Glad you guys are ok though.
My husband and I were trying to get home to Wilton Saturday Night. We ended up going the back roads and ended up in Galt. ,( below Sacramento)The road we were on went from 6 inches of water to 4 1/2 feet in less than 10 minutes. We had to be rescued by the Wonderful Wilton Fire Dept. It was dark by then and the water was above my waist inside our F350 4x4 Truck and the water was up to my window. We had to wade out of 4 1/2 feet of very cold, rushing water and we very, very thankful to be alive. It got pretty close. We had about a foot left before we drowned! Thank You Wilton Fire Dept. for saving us!
Girl try Living near Galveston Texas. The minute a major storm comes near the gulf storm prep starts. We generally prep the non essentials first and when we know when and where landfall will be imminent we do final prep. My parents are selling their crystal beach texas home because it's too much stress at 65 years old to worry about. God speed I hope all went well. Love your channel!

I live in Galt, Ca. & was supposed to be on the 99 but my plans were canceled due to the nasty weather. I literally got chills when I saw the flooding that occurred. My heart goes out to all who unfortunately got caught up in the terrible weather/ flash flooding & to the 3 who lost their lives 😢 & their loved ones. It feels so surreal to me, you hear about this happening in other places, but when it hits home it's like your in a huge nightmare pinching yourself to wake up. I live off of twin cities by the 99. It was the First New Years Eve without electricity & was literally pitch black, couldn't see a thing, in the whole town of Galt due to the power outage. It was the first Year we didn't get to see the ball drop on T.V. I'm just so very grateful that our plans were canceled. I'm happy you and your family were okay & safe. I just love how you are so involved with your kids, making these beautiful special memories with them ❤️.

A flash flood happens in a flash. often times there can be a wave/wall of water coming downstream. It'll look fine, then it's not.
That flood was talked about here in Canada sending prayers.
I’m in Elk Grove as well and I also sadly went through this😢 my phone was dead and my fence got knocked over, pool flooded, trampoline knocked over, just a total wreck
The same thing happened before Christmas in Niagara Falls expect with snow my grandma went 52 hours without power it was nuts I'm so glad you and your family are safe happy new year

I still love the round Tablecraft condiment squeeze bottles. The red ones are only for ketchup. They yellow ones are only for mustard. The clear ones are for any condiment. Party City usually sold the bottles many, many years ago. More bottles are found at "Bed, Bath & Beyond" and Big Lots. I still have 4 empty clear bottles that I can still play with.

We get those alerts on the tv all the time but luckily they are almost always wrong 😂 they use it for severe thunderstorms, Blizards, flooding, high winds and all that stuff we have the beeping from the tv and like a million phones I hate when they do it on repeat one time it was 1 alert liturally 10 seconds later another one for another reason so the house was very Loud

I spent my NYE in 2019 (going into 2020) in both incredibly drunk but also in the middle of a catastrophic bush fire, im Australian, the massive fires we had that summer were awful, on of then was like 20 mins from my house. Luckily I was fine. But ringing in the new year like that was definitely memorable. We had to have the windows open because it was extremely hot (as Australia usually is in December) but opening the windows ment letting in the smoke..
H lol from Minnesota.. we have had 3 snowstorms since before Christmas one with 50 mph winds.. full fledged Blizzard.. Couldn’t see anything in our farmyard minus 30 below windchill

When I get like a warning ⚠️ I a mini panic attack and I screamed in my head, my grandma every night the people would test the tvs or they would say when a thunderstorm is gunna happen but it would go off EVERY NIGHT.
I love how they were freaking out about the flash flood but that’s a normal day in Ohio we get that all the time 😂
Where did Mimi grow up in Texas? She mentioned it rained all of the time, yet I live in San Antonio and it hardly rains.. we’ll get maybe a week or two of rain depending on the season buts it’s usually dry and hot. 😢😢 we did get a cold front for Christmas which was nice.😊

I loved Encanto at the Hollywood Bowl. Seriously though the weather has been crazy. We had a snowstorm that shut down schools for 2 1/2 days.
I live in ca too and in my town it rained 31 days in the entire year. It has rained 1/3 the amount in January of 2023 as we did an entire year in 2020! Our schools are outside. Our houses are not raised.

I had to drive from New Mexico to Arizona on mew years day to drop off Mt son at his dad's and we had the worst storm ever visibility was so bad and the semis kept splashing water all over the windows making it impossible to see

I'm surprised we haven't gotten any shelter in place alerts though. I have been getting the alerts for the wind advisory and flood alerts though. Either way we have been staying indoors with the storms.
