Wt do u mean by stalked receptacle? Is it similar to the receptacle we see in a flower?
Hi Nicky, that's a good question. in a flower, the receptacle is the swollen basal part of the flower to which all the floral parts are attached. In Marchantia, the receptacle holds or encases the male/ female sex organs. The receptacles are stalked in Marchantia. The stalked receptacles bearing male sex organs (antheridia) are called antheridiophores and the stalked receptacles bearing female sex organs (archegonia) are called archegoniophores. Best regards, Shanty

Thank you Yashraj. Best regards, Shanty
Thx mam but my main doubt is whether stalked receptacle means receptacle possessing a stalk as antheridium possesses a stalk.?
Hi Nicky, stalked receptacle just means receptacle possessing a stalk (receptacles have long stalks in Marchantia). When we say stalked receptacle, it is not taken into consideration whether the antheridia in the receptacle are stalked or not. Antheridia may be with stalk or without stalk. However, in Marchantia, antheridia are stalked (short stalks). Is it clear now?
Mam,,thank u so much.your vdio has cleared all my confusions. Mam can u answer me a one questn ,plzzzzz,.. How in certain algae like ulva both gameyophyte and sporophyte generation are independent of each other.

Mam how do i get to know that which kingdom plant will have sporophyte or gametophyte as main plant ?? Do I just need to memorise it ..?? Or will I be provided any trick to grasp it ..
Dear Swati, that's a nice question. Actually during the evolution of plants, the haploid gametophytic phase got reduced while the sporophytic phase dominated. This means that in algae and bryophytes the main plant body is haploid and gametophyte while in higher groups of plants like pteridophytes (ferns), gymnosperms and angiosperms the diploid sporophytic plant body is the main plant body. I hope you will not forget this again ;) Best regards, Shanty
