I love the battenkill series. I have a battenkill lll paired with a 5wt 8’ ButterStick glass rod. I run Courtland 444 WF line and it is a gem casting medium to larger dryflys to hungry trout during the Salmonfly hatch on the Gunnison River. It’s so much fun!
Clearwater ftw. $75 bucks and the extra weight is actually a plus for balancing long nymph sticks! Can buy 5 of em for the price of a machined reel. For trout fishing it’s a no brainer for me. But if you want the bling you do you!
I have a hydros 3 and I got an extra spool for it. I love that I can swap out my saltwater and fresh water line so fast. I use the 5-7 on an 8 weight too with slightly less backing and it works great on the salt. Great design.
Yes they are a fantastic option for that! A bunch of us here do the same thing. We also do it when we want to swap from a floating line to sinking lines for trout and bass.
