I find this kind of innovative and well-executed reworking of older obsolete buildings WAY more impressive than pointlessly big supertalls these days to be honest.
@@alfieakaronaldog yeah I'm not impressed as a rule. I suspect they managed to get more floor space on upper levels or something? Be interesting to hear why they did it because visual reasons are a waste of time and money obviously, like RGB in your PC. But... what really annoys me is flats with curved walls or triangular rooms so none of the furniture fits and all the spaces inside make no sense but that's ok, because people stand outside and admire your curvy building... errr... what use is that to the tenant?
Wow! What a fantastic re-creation from an older office tower. It is something that I would never have thought of before, but now realize it is do-able ....at a cost. I'm wondering if this ended up costing more than if they would have built a new tower from the ground up? Regardless, it is spectacular!
Perth has given the green light for the worlds tallest wooden skyscraper. I would love to see a video on that. I emailed you guys with no response about it.
The architect's dream and draw it. The contractors build it. And in between no one seems to acknowledge the engineers who take the architect's pretty drawings and actually make it possible to build and safely use it.
Love the fact that you stress: “…best looking skyscraper in SYDNEY”. Yes, in Sydney where it does not have that much competition in the first place. Love the B1M, from Sydney 😜
Question: How was the existing core reinforced to handle the additional loads both vertically and laterally with 4 additional floors added?? Correct me if I'm wrong but aren't footprints and foundations built for the structure as originally planned? Were there remedial constructions on the foundation? Beautiful building btw. Just curious as to the "how". ❤
I think this building has pave the way for Sydney. And it looks attractive especially when you look at it on a different angle, it shows it purpose. So I think it’s clever. When it’s tall, it looks elegant in some way. ❤️💚👍😊
SYD wins hands down... we have the worlds biggest natural harbour.. Melb have there dirty Yarra river they still pump sewerage into wrapping around their miserable city..
You’re wrong. One Central Park is a far more ambitious construction and that cantilevered heliostat is not only gorgeous, but is an engineering marvel that will continue to conjure awe for decades. Quay Quarter is fine, but it’s boring. Same-same, albeit with a shiny modern facade.
Okay, I’ll tell you you’re wrong. For the sole reason that it’s incredibly repetitive. Sure, most are, yet this building has the obvious design motivation that tries to limit repetition - look at those offset blocks. If each of those blocks had used different sized ‘brick’ patterns, or something else to delineate the design from an elevation viewpoint, then I’d almost agree. As it is, the Chifley Tower with its art deco inspired design remains my favourite tall building in Sydney. In terms of recent builds, I’m a fan of both the almost completed W hotel (formerly The Ribbon) in darling harbour and also the Crown tower in Barangaroo.
Why not turn your phone SIDEWAYS, so it looks like you know how to "make a movie". We've seen your other videos, Fred, so this is not hard to do. There is no good reason to hold a phone/camera this way and eliminate two thirds of the image space. We wouldn't expect an architect to ignore two thirds of a site, so you shouldn't ignore your frame!!!
I believe the design responds to the Sydney sun as it moves northeast to west, so that less power is needed to regulate temperature. In terms of construction, building around the old office building saves on materials and demolition processes, which is somewhat more sustainable in terms of carbon emissions etc
It might be the best skyscraper of the year but it's still nothing more than a bunch of glass, concrete boxes. There's nothing tying it to Sydney at all; I wouldn't have been surprised to hear it was built in Houston, London or Shanghai.
The Council of High-rise Window Cleaners just voted it, The Worst Skyscraper of 2023.
Funny enough as long as they had amble hanging equipment it might be easier to have more crews or at least shorter runs 🤣
LMAO!!!
Windshield wipers in the future lol
The windows clean themselves....
😂
Recycling construction materials is important. Recycling them by leaving them in situ and building around them is innovative!
Aussies are smart.. we invented wifi so reusing existing foundations isn't rocket science.
I’m sure that was super helpful
Reusing structure is the way to go🎉
I find this kind of innovative and well-executed reworking of older obsolete buildings WAY more impressive than pointlessly big supertalls these days to be honest.
💯
Notice that he is not using his usual fake RP voice but his natural one. He reminds me of Simon Whistler.
Architects sure love their cantilevers
They enjoy branching out I guess
Yep! Seems like more of a flex to other architects than anything. Personally I'm not typically a fan of them.
@@woodvineandcoAgree with you.
Sometimes they look cool, but this just looks like they did it because they could.
It’s because they’re not the ones who have to solve for them. They just draw cute little pictures and leave the math for me.

Was such a pleasure to watch this take place over the years. Well deserving of the award.
Definitely a beautiful design
Yo that timelapse was nuts
Australia has some very impressive architecture.
😂 Hahaha! Thank you for sharing this beautiful city tower building.

Aussies know how to save money big time through an innovative, massive rehab. World take notice.

Yeah I bet they never get anyone to email them. Completely empty mailbox. I can’t believe they haven’t gotten back to you.
He did post about it a month or two ago. it's on his radar. I would expect a video once its at least partially built
My favourite building in sydney

Let’s give the engineers a shout out - BG&E made this happen. @bge4275

Love the B1M, from Sydney 😜
Excellent 👌
amazing building 😱
Now thats cantilever.
I love it for recycling & turning an ugly seventies building into a beautiful new update in one swoop.
Amazing I love it. One day I will visit this spectacular skyscraper by God's grace.
It's nearly as gorgeous as Fred :D 😍😆😍
Amazing!
How did I never notice how nice this was, I live in Sydney lol
It’s bloody gorgeous

I don’t have a perfect answer but they did widen the skyscraper so they had to pour new foundation and shift the weight somehow
I. Did. Not. Know. They. Could. Do. That!
A tour around Sydney, please. Are there more interesting buildings?
Apparently there’s some kind of Opera House?
@@TheB1M Not many locals think its all that... CenterPoint tower and the bridge are way better than that sea shell..

Fred, you should have done a lecture or something while you were in Sydney. I would have come to see you speak.
I’m at the MCA on Thursday night - our huge launch event for Get Construction Talking in Australia!
@@TheB1M That's great! Thanks for the heads up Fred. I will look forward to attending that.
Sir, your all videos are amazing. Just wanna tell you, appreciate your work. Love You. ❤,
I wish I could work with you.
cool
Modern Architecture feels devoid of any soul
Sydney And Melbourne have an infrastructure war and i love it 😅😅
SYD wins hands down... we have the worlds biggest natural harbour.. Melb have there dirty Yarra river they still pump sewerage into wrapping around their miserable city..
You forgot to mention the view 👍
Australia? GREAT! Sydney? WE'LL NEVER HEAR THE END OF IT! Bridge, Opera house now Tower
CenterPoint tower as well my firend
So what do the insides look like? Apartments, offices....a mix? 🤔
Good on ya
Much great work good see you Minah simone 🧠🧠🧠🧠🌎👏🏻👏🏻🙌🏼✨
As a his rise window cleaner, no, those overhangs are a frikkin nightmare.
Your not wrong, Fred.
🙃🇦🇺
The Skyscapers in Singapore is getting too generic. 🤦♀️Jist look at that building. It absolutely gorgeous.😍
Couple of years and it will start to crumble just like the the rest of Sydney’s new skyscrapers
You're wrong too, they're both ugly
Fair enough! One Central Park is incredible too
Yes, I too think One Central Park is Sydney’s best looking and amazing building!
It is a beautiful building I went to check it out when I was in Sydney for the Vivid Festival
Wish I was in Sydney with Fred!😂
Just because it’s 68% of old building makes it a landmark in the world
Hope you never have an earthquake
Syd never has muppet...
Look at the size of that lamppost!
It is gorgeous.
That was done in Auckland in 2013
Singapore's CapitaSpring or Thailand's Mahanakhon deserves the title more 😅
So where is the data on the distributions of steel and concrete on any of these buildings?
Okay, I’ll tell you you’re wrong. For the sole reason that it’s incredibly repetitive. Just wanna climb that tower, and just kiss it! Nice building too!
100% Sydneys best feature building, Barangaroo could have been so much more attractive
😊
I cannot make it what you are saying about the group that compiled the best skyscrapers. Sounds like council of gibberish. I think you made it up
Baby❤
For me its 90 lorimer street melbourne every year
Funky edges. Did the draftsman’s triangle slip?

Best skyscraper sounds like a oxymoron.
How? In what context?
That's at least 10m out of plumb. Shocking.
isnt there a new building being build in front of it? you cant even see it anymore
The roof is kinda cool, but meh.
You obviously haven't seen Gaudi's Familia sagrada in Barcelona ,
Good grief that is ugly. I immediately thought of The Aesthetic City's recent post on this building phenomena.
I do like it although I think it would of looked better if it was taller....
Daddy ❤
Can you do a video from your mstes window if he lets you i bet thsts a sight
All concrete and glass ... no added valur for humans and the planet ... go green
Its carbon neutral ya tree huggin hippe
Fred, I’m telling you you’re wrong. It’s another abomination on the Sydney skyline.
ru still in sydney
Old buildings look better simple and a box
I do not get what makes this visually appealing. It doesn't look that different from other skyscrapers apart from its rotating-looking parts.
Good that it's made sustainably (especially with retaining the original building). Although I find its aesthetic far too chunky, that's just my view
how is it sustainable???
I believe the design responds to the Sydney sun as it moves northeast to west, so that less power is needed to regulate temperature.

Mate I’m not even watching a 10 second video about Sydney, You keep wasting your time :)
It looks weird to me. Lol
I would need to see some others, but that view from the street is awful
I am very antiskyscraper
Honestly, it’s kinda ugly. The whole “up-cycling” aspect of the building is nice. But from an aesthetic point of view it’s not very elegant.
It might be the best skyscraper of the year but it's still nothing more than a bunch of glass, concrete boxes. There's nothing tying it to Sydney at all; I wouldn't have been surprised to hear it was built in Houston, London or Shanghai.
It's horrendous looking. Who designed that? A 3 years old with bricks?
tu clo hdtrpm
3/10 It does not impress me much.
Nope.
It looks AWFUL
Meh
imagine that. named best by council of tall buildings. who would have guessed? are you sure it wasnt by the council of recycled goods?
