I still cant get over the fact it's a gas pipe. This is a brilliant idea!! If you manufactured this I think you would sell a lot of them despite the cost
i got the gas pipe from some friendly guys at the side of the road who were replacing the old stuff. its around 20mm thick so its very heavy!! you have to glue the end caps in place to stop movement and vibration although you can still access the inside by removeing the foot plate and driver.
thanks marvin, you would have to spend around £1500-£2000 to match a well built DIY subwoofer. pa amplifiers are better suited to the job than car amps and if setup correctly they go not just lower but also louder than any commercial subwoofer. no better way to spend the evening :) parts used was a lenth of gas pipe RE XXX v3 12" driver dual 2ohm with around 1600 watts rms!!! solid walnut butchers block worktop and mdf and sound proof foam and wadding.
i worked for the geek squad, seen some pretty expensive shit i could never afford but one of our guys built this and powered it with car audio amp and sub and it definitely hits lower frequency's than any in store product. Truly impressive DIY project! You should put a materials list in the description
lol. where did you acquire a piece of gas pipe? thats insane!!!! My friend used a cardboard silo tube used to pour concrete foundations, for his caps he used MDF. once you put the top piece of wood in- is it removable at that point?
Hi, got a link for your build? What's the total height, and whats your internal tube diameter and volume. Did adding the dampening increase the effective volume much?
SVS does the exact same thing on their CS and PC series of cylinder subs. A rule of thumb is that the port should have a clearance that is the same as it's diameter. So a 4" diameter port should be at least 4" away from the magnet structure as well as the sides of the enclosure. Some people know about cylinder subwoofers then there's this guy
wow, what a nice ashtray! ^^
I know this is an old video but I had to say it is beautiful! I'm hoping to build one in the near future.
Many thanks, they do sound amazing and had many years of fun with it.

nice. I love these drivers. It will be my future home theatre as well
High end design. I'd love to have one in my house.
it sounds very loud and very low, it is surprisingly tight and musical for when playing music also.
hi marvin, i used a XLS2500 which is a fantastic amp and cant praise enough.
Freaking beautiful!
impressed!
Thanks guys, for the full build search........... Another DIY cylinder subwoofer
It's built for 20Hz but with room gain I'm proberly looking at 17hz. My full build is on avforums.
Well done nice piece of engineering pal , how does it sound .

www.avforums.com/threads/another-diy-cylinder-subwoofer.1427200/ is the link needed to see the full build.
nice. is the dampening neccesary?
on the port yes. it helps stop vibrations.
hey where do you get the polyfil roll type stuff?
reply asap if possible thx!
Its just acoustic wadding that you can buy of ebay.
what did you use for an amp?
you never put a port directly behind a sub , never unless your this guy
