Did we fix our Wild Blue Boston Whaler 130 sport?

- Today we drop our second installment on our brand new (to us) Boston Whaler, with a 40hp Mercury 4 stroke. Our research told us the most likely cause of our problems were high pressure fuel pump related, so we ordered new pumps, and filters, but did that solve our problems??
So happy for you two. It's a great feeling to get the kinks worked out and hit the water. A few months ago, I bought a 1986 150 Super Sport. The boat was all original and immaculate. It had spent its life in Michigan. I did not mind driving 300 plus miles to pick her up. It has a 70HP Johnson, it goes 44mph trimmed out. I only had to buy a new fuel line as the boat was bogging down and smoking. That solved the problem. I also only run the highest octane I can find in her. She loves that high octane gas and has a mighty thirst for the top shell stuff. Hope you two have a blast in the years ahead.
We are so glad you enjoyed the video. It is always a great sense of accomplishment to get something fixed that was broken.
@@wildbluewander_1 oh believe me, I know. Lol
im so gald you got it fixed!
Great video. Great job. God Bless you both.
Mechanic skills, sweet.
Thanks. It makes a huge difference being able to accomplish small repairs rather than take it to a mechanic shop, in time, and expense.
Brilliant fix, well done. Be great to see some footage of the boat from the shore. Hardly any video of these boats online
You have great timing! We are headed to the lake today to film the next whaler video. We will definitely film some shots from the shore! Thanks for the suggestion :)
Nice job!!!
Wow! You guys are zooming ! Yeah have fun!
So thankful it runs!! Thanks for watching 😊
E10 gas is the worst thing you can feed a outboard
Agreed. But that is all we can get around these parts of texas. I've looked high and low for the last few years for ethanol free gas. And it is
just not available in east texas.
@@kimbelesky1971 yeah same here there is one place that I know of about 1/2 away here in Maine little off the wall country store. $4.39 a gallon
I always use an ethanol additive in my fuel cans if I use ethanol containing fuel. Lucas makes a really good one, have been using it for years and never had to rebuild a carb or clean corrosion from lines or tanks.
@@wildbluewander_1 I went through that for several years on Mercury 4 stroke in the shop it went clean the jets Etc now non ethanol gas hasn’t seen the shop in 4 years
Thank you. I will look for that. Regardless what it costs. That will still be cheaper than carb rebuilds on my johnson 115.
Nice fix, thanks for sharing. what prop you running? Just bought a 2005 130 with a 40hp merc 4stroke and it tops out at 25mph with me and my 6yr old. Stock 10.375 14p on mine
I believe mine is the same pitch prop. That's about the speed mine goes with 2 people in it, I think these mercury engines in these years are just a little underpowered for some reason. If I can't somehow make a little more power, I may re-power with a tohatsu, or Yamaha in the future. We are glad you enjoyed the video!
Nice! What lake were you on, and how many RPM did it top out at?
The lake is called Wright Patman lake near Texarkana Texas. I think the RPMS were around 5500-5700 at top speed. Do you have a 40 merc too?
@@wildbluewander_1 I just picked up a 2016 Boston Whaler 150 Super Sport a couple months ago. Has a 60 hp Merc CT on it. I'm playing around with different props. It came with a 4-blade but the rpms were far lower on the top end, maybe 4500. Went to a 3 blade and it seems about normal now.
Congrats on the Whaler purchase! I have read, and heard through others that the 4 blade props are mostly for larger hp engines, and the 3 blade props are much better for anything say under 100hp, but that's just what I've heard.
Loved to watch you get that Merc running well again. I have the same boat with a newer 40 hp Merc. on it. It takes me over 20 seconds to get it to plain out. It came with a four blade stainless prop 14" pitch. That is from just above idle speed and rolling into it. Seems that this motor is way down on power. I'm used to my old boat with a 2 stroke that practically jumped out of the water with a 40 on it. That boat was a little lighter, but it was on top and on plain in three to four seconds and would go 37 mph on flat water. Have you ever timed your boat to see how long it takes from a running start as I described . Anyway, keep up the good work, I'm going to follow your adventures.@@wildbluewander_1
