The way your daughter was walking at the first of the video, you must have a time keeping up with her. I couldn’t imagine being at this location and a large piece of shrapnel come flying past or even worse hitting you. I enjoy hearing the history of these places.
Once again great work. Wild boar, yum get up on that tower with your k98!!!. Great stuff, but watch out for those poisonous bushes. You know what I mean WW2HH.
That terrain looks perfect to me. Just some low plants and very soft ground. You should dig in Latvia once, it's an absolute jungle compared to where you are. Not to mention the mosquitoes and swamps... Nice vid and greetings from the Netherlands!
I wish i could always do stuff like this i love your vids your channel really inspires me to do this kinda of relic searching thank you so much hope your channel becomes a raging success!!
I always wondered if you ever found mortars or even live land mines, Please be careful my friend!! and keep the videos coming. I really wish I could assist you via patreon I would love a piece of WW2 history but medical issues at the moment have me broke :( THANK YOU for helping ME get through this difficult time!!!
I have to say that I love your channel, not just because I love history and WWII history, but, I love that you get your children involved in history. Also, I love that you use your hobby not just to help educate people including your children, but, it also gives your children lasting memories with there father that they will have forever. Who knows??? Maybe, one of them may follow in your footsteps. Keep up the great work. Thanks for making these!
Thanks for braving the mosquitoes. They can be seen in the video. Man I hate those things I put on a lot of repellent and try keep exposed skin to a minimum.
Yours was the first metal detecting channel I ran across, and I have now watched nearly all of your videos. Your narration is great, your excitement is infectious, and your camera work is great. Good hunting.
Another great vid! Btw, you should should use some bug spray, anything with DEET in it will work, I'm sure they have those products in Germany. Think those are bad there? You should go to Alaska, those bugs will carry you off and have you for dinner!! Thanks for another great tour! The states.
With so many battlefields all over Germany, how do you find the best locations that haven't been picked clean by other historians, collectors, hobbyists, and souvenir hunters? I know you don't like to give your locations away but I imagine you must have some criteria you use to help you determine the best locations for some great finds. After you found the mortars, that was a pretty indicator for me that the site you were on in this video hasn't had many visitors because I would think that any found explosives would have been reported long ago. Anyway, great video. Keep them coming.
How do you identify locations of unexplored ordinance to the bomb squad? GPS location? You might think to cary a spray can of fluorescent paint to make them easier to locate.
interesting finds mosquitos there not fun . Good location I like the locations you and your children go too that have trenches fox holes if f2f hey could only talk thank you
Why do you not keep the live PPsh round? Sorry for the very many comments, i just discovered your channel and I am going through all your old videos :)
When you find a live round and report it to the bomb squad, how do you report it? Do you provide GPS coordinates and mark it with a small flag or something similar? Do you cover up the round so nobody else accidentally steps on it? I think the process for that is an important detail of your work.
That "mini" 20mm is a German MG131 13mm casing.. they were used by the Luftwaffe and the interceptors going after Bombers scattered these cases over whole western Europe. Most of them were copperplated steel cases and rotted away.
@@WW2HistoryHunter No worries, if you have ever have issues identifying small arms(parts) or ammunition feel free to reach out to me. Basically everything in the 5,6 to 13mm range and western European stuff up to 155mm.
@@WW2HistoryHunter should get the footage of bomb disposal that would be awsome, your videos are excellent, the creepy Forrest is bound to have lost souls watching you and most probably helping to guide you, also its awsome that your children get stuck in to your search for history and even though I'm Scottish/uk i can appreciate your enthusiasm for German workmanship, have you seen the twi guys that di the Dutch magnet fishing, their finds are almost unbelievable finding different types of actual machine guns.....keep up the good work sir
How long does it usually take for the bomb squad to come? I used to walk our dog behind our apartment in Illvesheim Germany and one day saw some metal sticking out of a fresh plowed field...I started digging at it and thought...no...I'm not in the mood to pick up a bomb today... A soldier on PHV Barracks had amassed quite a large amount of WWII explosives he had found ... Was a pretty tense event...
The bomb squad must know you well..thanks for the finds summary at the end...please do more of those of the days findings. Thanks again for doing the videos for us and being stung by mosquitoes for us..always appreciated your time and effort.
Dear History Hunter a question please. How do you assess the danger aspect of what you are doing. You are constantly finding unexploded ordnance in a bad condition that must be very unstable. If you say it's just through experience then in your early days you must certainly of made some hair-raising mistakes. Or do you just have to switch off when you pull unidentified things out of the ground? I had to ask!!!
well , in my opinion life in general is Dangerous. just 2 weeks ago one of my friends were hit by a car crossing the street in his hometown. he had crossed that strret houndreds of times before but suddenly he is in hospital... My point is that there are no way you can make life 100% safe. Thanks
New to your channel and LOVE it! Your enthusiasm matches my own when it comes to "digging in history". Is there a protocol for when a mortar round is found? Like do you send the coordinates to anyone for safe removal?
Just wondering if you're able to work with the bomb squad and get things like the grenades back after they've delt with them like deactivated them if it's possible or do they just blow them up it'd be cool to have a intact mortar shell as a display piece
WW2HistoryHunter what I meant was could you get a grenade casing off them once it was taken away do you know what happens once they take them away because you find alot of cool things like the smaller mortars
Great video. I'm surprised that you don't find more unexploded ordinance. Back in the day in the 80s when I was stationed there, we were always called out to assist local authorities for found unexploded ordinance. Be careful out there.
Okay but what did you guys do with the "bomb" or "motor" (sorry I don't quite know what it was)? R u guys just gonna leave it there or call someone or something? Cuz that would be awesome to just have that (of course if it's un harmful)
That wire could have been used so that the German infantry at the trench could communicate with their commanding officers. The wires had to be constantly be replaced because explosions tore them up, resulting in a team of poor souls either repairing it, or replacing it entirely. The wire used was copper, but late in the war it is possible to see copper wire being replaced by an aluminum alternative for availability reasons.

Another great video WW2HistoryHunter - so what exactly is the process you have to follow once you find unexploded ordnance/bombs?

yup, go digging and poking around in the ground in an area that had lots and lots of munitions and you could go BOOM!

they are probably the bomb squad.... whom of which keep getting phone calls from the same person lul
What's there not to like?
Looks like there was some heavy fighting in that location. I never realised that mortars were that large, or even larger!
There are even larger ones Paul. not Nice to find. Thanks
