first two were correct but the one the sitter choose deserved to be in the final as well. the other painting was great and I get why they chose it but the likeness was just so off that it looked like another person.

My winner 🏆 pick: NOAH RUSH!!!! BRAVO 👏!!! I prefer and admire the fact that he's self-taught and relies on his natural instincts to create. In addition, he's immune to self-doubt and trusts his style. What stands out to me about his portrait of the famous singer REBECCA is that NOAH RUSH captures the organic beauty of her commanding "CLEOPATRA" Royal presence. I think Picasso would have picked NOAH RUSH. The judges seem to have a wonderful feel, almost addictive to the unfinished painting style of Maura. Go figure 🤔! There's no need to hurry here!!!
Can't believe the jury's choice ; no any ressemblance whatsoever for one, naïf and artificial for the other two...thus excluding the sitter's choice ...and the only artist who deserves to reach the semifinal !
Oh no, why didn’t they choose Noah? I love his technique and style and he really captured the likeness. The others were also good, but he was the best!
And they brought her back? From where? Was she not selected and then they put her in as a wild card? They must’ve known that they were going to choose her. I don’t think that’s fair to the contestants.
What's the point of calling it a portrait painting competition when the person in the portrait doesn't resemble the actual subject? She might as well have painted a poodle's head on that body. 🎨 🤣 🐩 🖼
Rebecca Ferguson is an amazing singer, 2nd runner up on X Factor 2010 (the One Direction season) , delicate, shy and beautiful….one of the most elegant performers in the UK….with great taste in clothing! What a fantastic subject for these talented artists to paint! They should have played some of her music in the background to add even more dimension and understanding of her.
Others were also good. That full figure was done very nice nicely, young artist has done beautiful work. Anyway you are final Authority to select pictures...
I loved these 3. A fresh style easily identifiable. The likenesses will improve with the commissions when there is more time. I think the judges think about the potential of the final portraits and this is just the leading up to phase. I think they base their decisions on process and style as 4 hours is not what they will have in the end. Thai mentioned something like that in the beginning.. remember they are looking for an artist to win a commission. Not rewarding todays works of art. These 3 look Museum worthy which is the end goal after all. Well done judges and artists alike! 🎉
I really don’t like Tim’s style of painting but love Morag’s - she’s definitely my favourite.Noah is an interesting young painter and Nina has a real ethereal look in each of her portraits. Carol does achieve an exact likeness but it’s a little too literal for me and her method of producing the outline and features seems a bit questionable.
I agree, to trace provides an exact likeness from a photo so in my view is cheating in a timed contest, also to trace makes me think she lacks drawing abilities. I can see the advantage if you are painting portraits for a living. But find it unacceptable in competition. 😢
Тhe portraits of the two young women in the top 3 look like good marked intentions but nothing more. I think the best were the second lady they chose, the one the model chose and the portrait of the young man.
I sometimes wonder if the show is partly about stirring drama about the judges' choices. I very often disagree with their decisions and sometimes finish watching the espisode before they announce the winners 😅
Wow..! I do not agree at all with their decision..? These judges need glasses and the ones that do need their vision rechecked. I know they are professionals in their field, but not everybody is always right. ???🤔😱
All but one of the artists are actually drawing the portrait and using their talent to get the likeness, while one is permitted to trace. She can obviously paint the skin colours beautifully, but can she draw? Drawing is a huge part of getting the likeness. How far would the judges allow an artist to avoid drawing? It is not fair for one person to trace the likeness, when the likeness is huge part of what is being judged. With Karen there is absolutely no talent being used to get the likeness. A seven year old can trace the likeness from a photo.
@KayInMaine when you have traced the picture you have MUCH. more time to paint, totally unfair to those who capture the likeness by their own drawing skills. I'm disappointed that she even reached the finals. Haven't watched to the end yet but the majority of times I'm disappointed with the judges. 😢
@@SKN1763 To be honest, it seems the traditional methods of painting a portrait have been swallowed up by technological intervention, as are many other things in the last decade particularly. I know they only have 4 hours to try and complete their interpretation of the sitters but I almost have a bias towards those artists who just ‘go for it’ and simply put paintbrush to canvas without the photography or tracing outlines etc. I do think likeness is a fairly important factor - after all, it is a portrait- however, I believe the very literal style of Karen, for example, is flat and lifeless in spite of being so true to the sitter’s characteristics. I prefer the artists who produce rather more enigmatic pieces which is why I love Morag’s work and her style.
I almost never disagree with the judges selection but this one seems really odd! Except for the sculptural portrait rest two were quite questionable selections.
Why don't they just take few photographs of the celebrity sitters printed beforehand for the artists to trace on canvas and then fill in the colours like kids do with colouring books... Portrait is a mixed representation of an artist's perception of the sitter/subject's persona ... This show ruined art for me
It's cheating in a timed competition. Drawing the likeness is the hardest and longest part of a portrait. When you trace, you're basically painting in a coloring book. I'm glad she didn't make it through.
@@AFAskygoddess. I am as well. How can one artist be allowed to copy the likeness by tracing it, when likeness is being judged? This bothers me so much! I am just happy that she didn’t make the final three.
@@SKN1763 their choices are always on just because they brought that third artist in somehow out of left field, probably knowing they were going to choose her, which is completely unfair to theother competitors, and to boot it looks like an entirely different person, there is no resemblance, the body is different, the aura is different, it’s just what the brushstrokes thoughtlessly brought forth.

Each painting was unspeakably hideous in its own way. There's no way in Hell THESE are the best portrait artists working in the UK. Speaking as a portrait artist, I i will somewhat defend the PRACTICE of tracing the image onto a canvas, as it's one of many ways an artist will go about transferring a drawing... especially when working from photographs. However, the choice to work from a photograph WHEN YOU'VE GOT THE LIVE MODEL RIGHT IN FRONT OF YOU should have been an instantly disqualifying move for the several artists who made that idiotic decision. As for the girl who painted the photo-realist portrait: the problem is not that her painting looked like a photograph. The problem is it looked like a BAD photograph. The art TEACHER who made that mess of a full body portrait created an ugly piece of shit one might expect to find at a garage sale. The application of paint, the choice of colors, and the decision to work in hideous acrylics show he knows nothing about art. No sense of artistry. No sense aesthetics. No ability to capture a likeness. No ability to compose a picture. And then listening to those know-nothing "judges" blathering on, trying to propagandize viewers into NOT believing their eyes, adds insult to injury
The sitters choice was 💯% on point..! Better than the judges pick..! 😵

Well, Tim, you won. What an exciting approach, beautiful. I could go on and actually I will. It is just an amazing portrait. Thank you.
Many great paintings from this group.

Confidence in what, tracing? You don't need to study fine art for tracing. She already learned that.

Excellent choices.
I love Nina and Morag, but... the third place... Oh, Tim
Copying a photo, no matter hop perfect it is, should not be next to creators
I would've loathed painting her... like finding structure in a perfectly cleaned window

Nina's portrait doesn't look like the sitter at all, so I disagree strongly, no matter how nice it is painted.
I agree ,I don’t know why they bother calling it “portrait artist” they just paint a figure ,judges ooh and ahh over them .
Tracing is cheating particularly when the other contestants made a genuine effort to capture the sitter's image.
