- Growing up in South Philly has shaped me into the person I am today. The vibrant culture, tight-knit community, and delicious food have all contributed to my upbringing. In this video, I will be sharing some valuable tips for those who are considering moving to this neighborhood, or for those who are simply curious about what life is like here.
I love this! Grew up on 1500 Clarion; went to Annunciation and the when I was in 8th grade moved to 12th and Ritner and am still here! Met my husband when we both went to Epiphany…he grew up with your wife and family! Small world!!
I love south Philly and you do not realize how much you love it until you move away.
Thanks that was real good .I grew up 2300 Bancroft ,moved out when I was almost 20 .I always say I am from SP ,in my Suburban Neighborhood some call me Down Town Denny .Please learn about bocce there is a little ball called Polinni [little egg]points are scored buy getting close to that little ball ,the only time you try to knock an opponents ball is when you must because it's blocking you from getting close .Thank you
I was stationed at PNSY from 1974 to 1976. I remember coming out of the Broad Street Station with my seabag on my shoulder and seeing an Italian neighborhood. I guess servicemen were not too popular after Vietnam in that neighborhood, there I am in uniform lugging a seabag and a guy watering his shrubs sweeps the garden hose towards me, I feel some water on my cover and back, I turned around and said "ohhh", he just stared at me with a deadpan look....like "welcome to Philly". LOL...Just like the Bronx. I was right at home. I remember at least twice a day they would blast a horn when a shipyard worker died. I don't ever remember the accident sign displaying more than 0 or 1 days since the last accident. I always thought since the "Philadelphia Experiment" in WW2 that PNSY was jinxed or haunted. I remember the "Broad Street Bullies" knocking the crap out of the CCCP hockey team so bad they walked off the ice after like 5 minutes in the first period. I remember the Mummers in sub zero January and I remember seeing Joe Torre in an empty Veteran's Stadium. There was an awesome Hoagie shop, like a NYC newspaper stand at the entrance of PNSY called "Blind Man's". I flashed back, thanks
Great vid, Nick. Wow such memories. I grew up in Manayunk, but my best friend lived over on 16th st. between Oregon and Moyamensing aves. I spent so much time in South Philly..good people..I always felt welcome there. I even got to march with the Mummers one year carrying a float😂froze my ass off but such fun, going down 2 street afterward, people tossing us free beers. Good times!👍
Hey Goombah! Thank you for watching my video. I hope you subscribed! That's so great that you got to experience our South Philly and it's people.
Love your whole video. I grew up on Castle Ave. Graduated from Southern. Italian mother, Irish father. Best of times growing up there. Wouldn’t have wanted to grow up anywhere else!

Nicky, everything you said is so true and real! I grew up around the corner from you, and life was wonderful! Our neighborhood and the neighbors were wonderful. Your family was amazing. I loved your Mom and Dad, your 3 sisters, and of course, you! Thank you for the video memories! ❤❤❤❤
Lived 1800 S. Carlisle for 2 years. Walked every night at 3 to a.m. to the UPS building at 3rd and Oregon.
Do you know the Gaetas?
I remember the geatas!!😂😂
Geatas?
New to Philly live in the west, from new Orleans, gonna really check it out
Was a little scared cause the people say its not safe for black people but your spirit inspired me to check it out
I desperately miss the Italian food in new Orleans - we have a large Italian population too
Nice video! I lived in the Philly-area on two separate occasions for a total of 6 yrs, and I had a friend in South Philly. I enjoyed going to Devil's Den for several years, and it sucks that it closed in 2022. I also liked going to shoot at Philadelphia Archery and Gun Club (now Philadelphia Training Academy). Penrose Diner was nice, too. Finally, Isgro Pastries, Santucci's Original Square Pizza and Dante and Luigi's all served up delicious food.
Thank you so much! Thanks for watching. All great places that you mentioned. You will find me 1 to 2 times a week at the Penrose. I call it my office. lol
I'M FROM NYC AN I LOVE PHILLY

Man I have to get there thanks for the tour
Thank for taking the time to watch the video!
Thanks for the info. I'm considering relocating to South Philly. Where are the Italian areas?
It's patchy but I consider where I am , more old school Italian South Philly. Girard Estates Area.
That's my grandfather's house Nick attached to the bocci court!
FYI: Enzo's Pizzata - is at 1849 Wolf St, Philadelphia, PA 19145, and a current photo is not on Google maps.

Great video! You did have me laughing in the beginning - respect (so Philly) and no mafia. Best food in the world! I gotta try Ricci’s now. I trust your opinion since the others you mentioned are great.
Just this Tuesday saw Bryce Harper hit a grand slam. On the way we headed to Italian Market for dinner - took two turns and spot opened up right at 9th & Carpenter. Fate was smiling on us 😊
lol. Thanks for watching! If you like food, check out my food review channel! NickyLance food reviews!
1010:Wharton. So the small ball is called the. Palini. Usually orange that’s the point ball. Great spot. I now run a team at the Delaware beaches ❤
Lived their 1986-87 US Navy on a barge. Nearby Whole pizza Wednesday $3.50. First Rita's ice with real fruit . 100 year old bakery near Italian market fresh filled Cannoli never tasted a better one. Pat and Gino's cheese steak, one had better meat the other had better Italian bread. I knew Philly like the back of my hand. Deive and parked anywhere. Went to Philly ten years ago, looks like Africa. Not one student from T U knew where the oldest Zoo in America was, not even mile away. Traffic so bad, cancelled a trip to S Phil. in 1980's S Philly had a stagnate drug depressive feel about it compared to Greenpoint Brooklyn where I'm from Cuz.
Sorry to double dip you forgot the Villa DiRoma one of my favorites and it was in the Irishmen .I spelled Palinni wrong
I didn't forget. I could go on and on! LOL So many great places. Thank you for watching!!!!
Funny it might as well be another planet from what it was in 80s and 90s. The old south Philly doesn’t exist anymore.
Nope
Parts are gentrified with newcomers. I do get why that's very hard to accept.
Same with a lot of places
The far left liberals moved in to south Philly and ruined it unfortunately!
Rare south philly video! Nice
Thank you for watching!!!!!

Interesting Facts About South Philly-You ever been to Chicago ( that’s where I’m from-born and raised)
Hey! Thanks for watching my friend. I drove through it. Never got out. lol Long time ago. Sounds like a great Town.
I grew up in South Philly nothing like it but south philly has major changes now grew up in a grocery store lots of fond memories but most of the people are gone now..
The Philly accent is very unique... I hear a mix of like NY, Chicago and I want to say England?
We pronounce " water" as " wooder". 😅
To me it sounds like a New York accent mixed with a little bit of southern accent I am from Connecticut and Coach Geno auriemma from UConn women's basketball sounds the same way
He came from Italy and grew up during his early years in South Philly
Any relation to Bruno Family Captain Joe Lanciano?
I heard a girl back in VA say she was from South Philly. I asked what part. She said Cherry Hill.
Ha ha ha ha! Seeeeeeee! Makes me crazy! Just be proud of where you’re from! Thanks for watching!!
That’s blasphemous 😮
Growing up a lot of ppl back in Virginia claiming to be from NY, Jersey or Philly not knowing who's listening. If somebody say their from Philly or Jersey im asking what part.@DJYNOT2
I'd go with Lil Nicks for hoagies over Ricci's
There is to a mafia
Yes we know.
Phili? Isn’t that where Kensington avenue is?
Unfortunately yes but that’s not South Philly.
South Philly is too gentrified now! I prefer the far Northeast 👍.
Thats not all of South Philly
Of course not.
South Philly should have remained Italian.
Hey pal, hoagies are actually called grinders
Not here.
Im excited to see Philly before she transitions into a gentrified city
Come on now, a cheese steak aint nothing but a high school drop out poboy ..... Let me stop talking mess 😂😂
But Italian sandwiches in new orleans are superior
Yall may do a better job at the pizzas
I'm from West Philly, and I love South Philly. What makes Philadelphia as a whole are the people. They're very loyal and will stick by you. I lived in New York City, Chicago, and Washington DC, but for me, these cities did not surpass Philadelphia.
Nice vid Nick! My ex is from 21st and Oakford. Many good times in S Philly!
Hey brother! Thank you so much for watching. Oakford? Is that around Warton street???
Yes, Oakford is near Wharton.
