So why did you leave your last job or why are you leaving your current job is a common question asked during job interviews. This video would help you answer the query with confidence and get the job. No matter what reason you had to leave your last job, answering this question properly is important. This interview question is a common HR tactic to know if a candidate would be trouble. How you behaved in your previous job is a good indication of how you will behave in future. I love my company and really enjoy my role as Assistant HR, but the situation has forced my hand. I am excited about the opportunity at your company and look forward to working here."
Sample answer 4: If you were fired / laid off
"I’ve loved my time at KGB Pvt Ltd. over 20 months of my work here. I have grown as an individual and professional. However due to the impact of COVID-19 on our business, the company had to go into cost cutting mode. This is where I have lost my job. The company has assured me that as soon as they are hiring again, I would be reconsidered on priority, but the timeline for the same is uncertain. This has pushed me to go out of my comfort zone and look for opportunities where I can begin a new phase of my career."

If I use reason number 4 (getting laid off or furloughed), won't that pose a problem for me while negotiating for a higher salary?
Yes that could happen depending on which company you are interviewing at. It sure is a disadvantage. For larger more organised companies they will pay as per their salary band (though there is often room for negotiation).
I would recommend building some leverage by hinting that you are unemployed but not out of options. So basically it would be a factor of does the hiring company see it as a situation where they would lose you if they do not pay well.
