Finally someone who does the job my way! I didn't want to fool with the actuator, just the blend door itself. Everyone on UA-cam is showing how to change the actuator but you, man. Thank you for the simple way.
What I might do is add a small rod that comes out the dash that is hooked to that pin. Then I wouldn't have to take the dash apart every time I wanted to switch from heat to cool.
Hey Mr. Hand I did the Vice grip trick and have not put my dash back in, until, then I really thought about it and clipped a hard strap, like a thingy that moves the drain under the bath sink, just longer and then twisted and bent down so, that I won't have to take it apart anymore. Thank you so much for all of your help, and I thought my idea, maybe, would help you. I know I will feel better when my dash is back together! Thanks again.
Reminder This is the only think stopping me from doing this in my Town Car. Having to do this every season is too much. If I'm removing the airbag, I'll just spend $20 on the actuator and do it right. Plus, in Ohio, you really do experience 4 seasons a week.
there's also the trick to touch the positive and negative battery wires, ONCE DISCONNECTED FROM THE BATTERY, for 20 min, that also resets the computer and you can get the proper fuel trim and shift points relearned once you drive for a few days
Ok I did it! Only about 30 min job. The only issue is the part is fastened down so tight that I couldn't get the swivel to move forward or backward. So I removed the closest little bolt on the part. And that gave me enough leverage to pry the part up with large Flat head screw driver. Thus being able to swivel the the little elbow looking arm thing on the actuator part.. You'll see. He means push the pliers, you're turning a shaft to change positions (on a 2002). I used a screw driver where the rod comes out at a right angle just below the ridge of the actuator to move it (about 3/8 of an inch below where he attached his vice grips). i had to run the car with the ac turned on to move it, then blocked it in place with a piece of wood as it wanted to return to the heat position (decided to replace the actuator at a later date when I'd know if that was my problem)
Yes it is I agree the problem is getting it out. You have to remove the dash to get to the screw. And it's a quick fix to get through until you can fix it properly
I bought one for $15 but the problem is NO ROOM TO ACCESS IT FOR REPLACEMENT. Either special tools or a complete dismantling of the dash required to replace it. I just cut the plastic arm off the dead actuator and wedged the metal hinge rod over to COLD ( in Florida I only need AC 99% of the time). The new actuator will probably be eternally stowed in the glove box.
derek jones remove the vent was a fight. I had to pull and pull. One guy just told me he cut his in half with a reciprocating saw and tape it back together.
There are 2 screws on the back side of the vent that need to be removed. You'll never get them back on once you get them out. I just inserted a short piece of copper wire through the screw holes and twisted it to reattach the vent.
Put a valve on the heater hose. During the summer close the valve to the heater core. No coolant flow to the core, no heat. Open the door in the winter and you have heat. $15 dollar valve, easy and cheap fix. Problem Solved. Otherwise you are blending hot air with a/c in the summer which is no good.🏁🚗
That hole in the air vent duct that you see at 2:21 contains a screw that makes taking the duct out nearly impossible without ripping it open. I don't know how some of you people are doing it without damaging the duct and your hands... I have no interest in doing this every year. I'm replacing mine!
Thanks but mine wont budge ,Having a heat wave and can't get the AC to go on.Would just breaking off the actuator and trying to move it by hand work?I don't want to start making things worse.

Can you come fix my Grand Marquis
How to get the air vent off
derek jones remove the vent was a fight. I had to pull and pull. One guy just told me he cut his in half with a reciprocating saw and tape it back together.
Head Savage films oh ok I pulled it out but it’s still attached on the right side
There are 2 screws on the back side of the vent that need to be removed. You'll never get them back on once you get them out. I just inserted a short piece of copper wire through the screw holes and twisted it to reattach the vent.
Paul Allen I didn't screw it back in i just placed it back in and used duck tape. It just a vent.
What size screw?
Put a valve on the heater hose. During the summer close the valve to the heater core. No coolant flow to the core, no heat. Open the door in the winter and you have heat. $15 dollar valve, easy and cheap fix. Problem Solved. Otherwise you are blending hot air with a/c in the summer which is no good.🏁🚗
The system works from the blend door all I'm doing is a manual control on it, it's all how it was built by ford.
I need to change mines but is it manually or automatic
You have to lift the actuator off the metal lever and turn the lever on its own

My actuator is in a different location and shaped differatly
What year
Looks like a pain in the a
It actually not that bad. It was well worth it.
Hope this fixes the damn heat lol
It should im hoping so too friend
I can’t get the piece to move at all. How hard do I have to push it?
It moved very easy for me
Does your click when its turn on
Mr Hands Head Savage Garage I don’t here any click but mine won’t budge
Sounds like the actuator motor might be seized up how hard did you try making it move.
Mr Hands Head Savage Garage I pretty much tried to break it lol
Aw man I'm sorry to hear that. I wish I could hands on it. I'm sure it's got to be a way to get it to move. Best of luck to you. Did you get a chance to like and subscribe
How I take the air bag out, without it blowing up in my face bro? That's my only fear.
glazierEd your good but if your worried about it just unhook your battery
Give it 20 minutes with the battery disconnected, some vehicles have capacitors that you want discharged before you disconnect the plug. I pulled the 10 amp airbag fuse just to be sure, air bags go for more than the vehicles probably worth.
What kinda dope are you smoking? That doesn't move
Grand Mar-Keeys lol
Not my___may you have that's better.
Da aculata 😂
Did this even worked for anybody?
joker && maryjanee yes if it your blend door thats stuck

This is stupid it's not a fix
Thanks for watching
That's not a fix dude!
You'll be pullin the whole dash when u gotta change the heater core.
Either fix the car right instead of this 2 times a year shit, or give it to someone who appreciates it enough to fix it right.
Funny ..give it to someone...It's all about the time and money to fix it right its not cause I didnt wont to do it right. It's a quick get by.
@@MarkusKnowsHow You're making excuses, and still being lazy. The replacement box is 20 bucks. Change the mf out so u FIX SHIT RIGHT. Dammit man.
Dude if you dont like then do it how ever you need to. This is for someone hows need air TODAY and dont have the money OK. Back off and get a life
