The secret word for that show was "Confinement Loaf". On the vinyl-version there is a intro to "Dickie´s such an asshole" where he explaines what it is ... =)

Frank was simply one of the best entertainers that's ever existed. Seeing him in concert was an event. Not only was the musicianship masterful, his humor and stage antics were second to none. Crowd participation was common with Frank. He was the full package. No one like him.

We've got 3 fabulous live albums from the '88 tour ( 'The best band you never heard in your life', 'Make a jazz noise here' and 'Broadway the hard way'), all we miss is at least one nice DVD!

And this song segues right into When the Lie’s So Big. Pity they didn’t continue.

Oh what fun this reaction was!! Off the top of my head there are three songs that have Nixon in them: this one, Titties 'n' Beer and Son of Orange County (of which you had a reaction to a live version). This whole album here is a great fun journey to travel through, ending in the most fabulous Jesus Thinks You're A Jerk. Love them all, though

Zappa at the time of this recording was so unappreciated. I love how his genius is being appreciated now.

  • @barrywilson1294

The tracks on this album come from a tour where Zappa was registering people to vote in the lobby between shows and during intermissions. This track segues into two more political songs but by far my favorite blast of social/political criticism comes at the end with “Jesus Think’s You’re a Jerk”

Frank would have The League of Women Voters at his shows so that people could register to vote. He floated the idea of running for president himself. I would have voted for him.

Each album has its own conceptual continuity and his confinement loaf.

“They’re gonna jump outta the subcommittee and get ya.” never fails to make me laugh. Only Frank could squeeze humour out of such a prosaic word.

There's one song off that same album that is just as pertinent today as it was back then - "When the lie's so big"

For me, Frank's best band ever. There was nothing these guys couldn't do. Just a pity they self destructed before the end of the tour.

Here’s a Wikipedia link to an article about confinement loaf. The adoption of confinement loaf by prison systems was news back in 1988.
    en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nutraloaf?wprov=sfti1
Of course the song lyrics also play off of its similarity to something else.

Frank had such animus for Dick and Ronnie I can't imagine how he would have skewered Donald. It would have been epic.

I think Frank’s political songs were much better in the 60’s than this album. For example We’re Only In It For the Money. It’s just a blisteringly intense shot at….. EVERYONE. That may be my favorite album ever. Well, today anyway.

Only in it for the Money is a Ground Breaking Masterpiece. Though the melodies are only 3 minutes each for the whole album, they all flow seamlessly into each other.
A Dark mirror to the Beatles "Sargent Peppers Album" as he described it. Many versions of the original album are muddy and missing a few instruments. Best version is the 1980 Ryco Disc Remaster that Frank himself did.

They improvised a lot with the lyrics live. Change out a word here and there. There's one live performance Ike Willis is just making himself and therefore everyone else in the band laugh.

I created something I'd like to share with you guys. Kobalt Publishing said I went too far with changing the title and lyric so they won't let me release it. I'm sure I can share privately, though.
It's GREAT. A former writer for Jimmy Kimmel helped me with the lyric and one of the musicians has a Grammy.
Where can I send an mp3?

There is plenty of fun to make about the Democrats, but Trump and the Republican party have become 10x beyond what he was going off about the Republicans in the 80s (and the final ultimate merger of them and the religious right).
