- We spent 24 hours in Kaunas Lithuania eating delicious kugelis and veal stew, drinking locally made craft beer and craft cider, and exploring the beauty of this city.
Kaunas has quickly become one of my favorite cities in Lithuania. It's creative, full of great museums, packed with history, and it's beautiful. I can't wait to return!

You are so respectful towards the Lithuanian people and culture by describing the foods enthusiastically, and even by pronouncing the words correctly. I LOVE watching your videos!
Thank you so much for your kind words! It's a beautiful country and I'm really enjoying exploring it :)
Very good. Thank you. Just one thing is missing. Our beautyful Pažaislis.
Thank you for the video. I am Lithuanian. I laughed when you eat a kugelis.
Very interesting. Good to see Lithuanians remember the atrocities that happen when even another country embraces negativity and blames others for their problems.
My second favorite city in the world after my Colombian hometown ❤
The Archetecure is Amazing!!
Hello, if you'll be visiting Kaunas again, I would recommend to visit "Lithuanian folk museum (Liaudies ir buities muziejus)" in Rumšiškės which is near Kaunas, about 20 km away. A lot of tourists miss that place, but I visit it like twice a year and it never gets boring, so I would really recommend it.
The visit will take probably 4 or more hours. It's a big area and definitely recommend it to visit.
Taip (yes). It's a must. (Butinai :))
Piękna dziewiczyna!
Kudos for going to spurgine. I dont live in lithuania anymore ,but I have considered visiting just for the doughnuts
Those warm jam doughnuts are something special!!
Interesting old town. My husband and I were in Lithuania in 2007. Only three days. Keep your discovery going. The food looked amazing on your video. Loved the veal stew and the pie. Yum
I love these Lithuania videos!I am 1/2 Lithuania on my late father's side. All we ate that was ethnic was stuffed cabbage, potatoe pancakes, and saurekrat.
So glad you're enjoying them!
Stuffed cabbage is in Lithuanian BALANDELIAI .. It is a fantastic meal.
This one was especially poignant. I so appreciate your appreciation for art, community and craft/artisanal foods/drinks. And, thanks for giving attention to the importance of the local history and for heading out in the rain! The soundtrack for this one was also particularly choice. Bravo!
next time in Kaunas:
Pubs:
for craft beer: VINGIU DUBINGIU, NISHA.
for the vibes: O KODĖL NE?, KULTŪRA.
Awesome, thanks for the tips!
Real nice video 👍 next time when visit Kaunas .. please chek museum of devils real intresting place and Pažaislio vienuolynas . its real green and nice place .. thanks for nice videos ...
Kugelis and Kvass yummy!!!!
Spurginė is fameous because it's something that didn't change a lot since Soviet times, so it's kinda retro and lets you remember the old times if you had your childhood back then for example.
Omg so many memories! Lasives Aleja, there used to be a vinyl record store my Mum used to work at back in the 80s, I've spent so much time there, Spurgine!!!!! 😍😍😍😍😍 lovely jam filled Spurges :))))) oh the memories... my Dad's Mum used to live in Laisves Aleja, then if you go up the hill to Zaliakalnis, my great grandparents used to live there... lovely seeing this place :) miss my birth place.
Thanks for the videos, love watching them :)
Love the contrast in foods from Mexico to Lithuania -- keep the videos coming and enjoy.
Yes, they're quite different! haha But I'm really enjoying it!
Couple years ago i staid in Kaunas for couple nights in AirBnB and it was in Kiemo galerija. Good memories
I’ve never been to Lithuania and I’ll probably never go but thanks to your videos, a little piece of me feels like I’ve been there. Thank you so much.
That's lovely, I'm so glad I can show you a different part of the world. That's why UA-cam can be so great, I think!
Never say never;)
Great to see someone exploring my hometown with such enthusiasm and excitement. I wholeheartedly hope you loved your stay. If you ever come by again during the warmer months, be sure to visit the coastal towns of Klaipeda, Palanga and my personal favourite, Sventoji. Beautiful cities with great coastal views of the Baltic Sea, plenty of activities, culture and exploring to do there. If you're ever in Kaunas again and you enjoyed visiting the forts, I highly recommend visiting the Vytautas the Great War Museum. Some amazing history is preserved there.
Thanks for visiting and taking us on the journey with you!
My friend lives there and were 14. im gonna fly there from norway him and me. Looking forward to it
@@haddixjr1267 enjoy it, be safe!
@@etmonasr3511 i will :) despite being next to russia it is sort of scary
@@haddixjr1267 I understand coming from Norway it can be scary to be closer to Russia and Belarus, however you are most assuredly safe. We have several NATO contingents located here in Lithuania from the United States all the way to Germany, all forming part of a Quick Reaction Force in case of any unforeseen aggression(s) taking place. Security here is taken very seriously. But people are not worried nor scared, everyone goes about their day as normal, for the time being everything and everyone is as safe as can be!
@@etmonasr3511 i understand😁 i read some about lithuania, safe and beautiful land
Good video, next time you go to Kaunas go to top to christ resurrection church it really has good views of old town and new town
And just like you mentioned in your other video, the weather went from rainy to sunny, to rainy to sunny again just like that 😁
Very nice video! I'm from Kaunas and you made me fall in love with my city again, I'm glad you liked it, sorry for bad weather tho, it happens 😁
Very nice video :) I'm from Kaunas and it was interesting to observe it through the eyes of a visitor. Realised that I still don't know many things about my home town. BTW you should have taken that cable car. It's one of the oldest in Europe and quite unique.
Hey, I'am from Kaunas. Nice choices you made! I hope you enjoyed it!
Cool..!💥Good luck and welcom next
time..!!👍😎
i love how you pronounce lithuanian words, you so good at it:)
Thanks, not sure if you're being sarcastic or not 🤣 since I accidentally pronounced aleja like it's a spanish word rather than the y sounding j that it is in Lithuanian 🙈 But I've been studying a little bit every day and hoping to be able to better pronounce things soon!
@@laura-bronner You are good at pronunciation, I could not understand smth like "obuolių", because you pronounced I and Ų as separate souds.
"A" is always pronounced as "a" and "o" as "o".
German "umlaut" sounds would correspond to lithuanian:
ä - ė, e.g., alėja (you pronounced it like "alėcha" (CH - soft H, single H - hard H, e.g. Himnas - anthem).
ö - io, e.g., valgio
ü - iu, e.g., Vilnius
Thanks, that's very helpful!
@@laura-bronner believe me, you are the first english speaking person, that pronounce word so good and i watch really lot of english speaking persons pronouncing lithuanian:)
Very nice. Down to earth, no 'oh my god!! screams', or any other unnecessary exaggerations. Respectful and mindful. The more tourists like you the better!:)
Thank you !! Amazingly cool 😎 video!!!
Very nice review, good vibe, positive, warm. Well done 👍😊
I literally just booked a solo trip there for a couple days in May. Thanks for your vids
Thank you for your good thoughts about Kaunas, I live here more then 30 year’s. Come here another time, I could show you more a lot much interesting places and food. Nice video!!!
Next time when you're in Kaunas I would recommend a restaurant/brewery in one of the old town's basements called Avilys (Beehive). You can order a "meter of beer" which is a bit of a novelty but also very good! They add honey to their beers - hence the name. The food there is tasty too. Also, if you're not too scared of heights, book yourself an early morning hot air balloon flight - a truly amazing experience.
Thanks! I'll add it to my list for the next trip!
@@laura-bronner i think it closed for good 😞
Yes we like the video
Thank u for sharing 👍😍🍻
So glad you liked the video, Juan! Thanks for taking the time to comment!
amaazing and so helpful. great content
GIRA is made from water, bread, sugar and raisins. Many grandmothers used to make GIRA. Now less often.
Interesting video, nice!
Nice! ❤
Hey, Kaunastic video! ;) I'm almost sure that at 8:08 you managed to film the artist that started the Kiemo gallery.
You have visited the 9th fort, so only 8 more to go :D You should visit the 6th fort a new museum was recently opened there. By the way every year from October all forts becomes homes for thousands of bats, they sleep throughout the winter there.
haha so cool, do you think that was him? I hadn't even thought that it might be him how silly! I will try to check out the other forts too, I didn't know there were others that were still open for visitors. Do the bats show up because they close for visitors or can you still visit even with the bats?
9th Fort Museum is temporarily closed for reconstruction.
Welcome in Kaunas :)
thank you for video
You are very nice, Your ayes. Thank You.
Ah, you finally had the kugelis! Our family recipe is different, the bacon (and grease!) is cooked into the “potato pie”. Rich, but delicious for Thanksgiving and Christmas.
It was so delicious! That sounds even better with the bacon cooked in!
@@laura-bronner it’s heavy, rich and probably a half a million calories, but it’s goooood!
haha the best foods always are!
My friend sometimes visit his father there ( we live in norway) he invited me to join him. Plane me and him all the way to his homeland sure is a big turn for my family. Exited tho
I didn't even know that gallery existed and been living here my entire life.
haha no way! Well, now you have something to explore this weekend :)
It's like a little Sunday morning Charles Kuralt! I love your new adventure!
We should weigh ourselves when we enter and when we leave, just for fun !
Also for a good view, have you visited the Prisikelimo Baznycia ? You can go all the way up to the roof and its on a hill facing, most of Laisves aleja area
Nice lithuania
Not really Lithuanian food, but burgers in hop doc are very decent, one of the best ones (if not the best) in Kaunas
wow big claim! I'll have to try them next time I'm there!
@@laura-bronner As long as you take your burgers medium, I'm sure you won't be too disappointed!
Actually kugelis (kugel) is jewish dish, but we lithuanians adapted it to ourselves :)
It's really interesting to see people enjoying cepelinai or kūgėlis, because most tourists don't, at least from my experience.
The kūgėlis was SO delicious. I can't imagine not liking creamy potatoes with pork and topped with sour cream! I love it!
My girl is lithuanian and in the beginning i didnt like your food so much. Now we eat almost everyday. P.s I probably gained 30 pounds the last 10 years, and we live in norway where it is cold winters and we need the fat and protein. So i imagine if you come from south europe your food is very alien🙂
@@nilspetterhellvik5519 don’t eat this every day or every other day:) twice a month maybe.
Thank you for such an informative video 💛 Also fascinated to know more about Kaunas in the comments below :)
You can visit the first and fourth forts
Good to know, thanks! The list of all of the things to do on my next trip to Kaunas is getting longer and longer!
@@laura-bronner Ninth is the last fully built fort. Kaunas in the russian empire was the most fortified city. During the First World War, seven projectiles of the "Big Bertta" were hit at Fort I, which caused huge losses.
I'm coming to Lithuania for the food!! It looks sooooo good! (except for the beet soup, sorry)😂
The food is incredible! More than just beet soup (but I do recommend at least giving it a try! haha)
Do not insult lithuanians! xD The "Pink Soup" is fantastic and healthy! Beetroots have all the iron, vitamine A and keep your blood vessels healthy, sour cream and kefir all your gut needs for a healthy gut bacteria and biome, egg has proteins and potatoes energy carbohydrates! Its colour is pink because red is mixed with white :)
That soup is the best in summertime only.
@@ingridasvilainyte8783 I'm not insulting beets, I just don't like them. Never could get used to the taste.
10:31 ooo i live very close to here :D
can't believe you made all the way to Lithuania and didn't try our own special calorie bomb dish Cepelinai lol...
I've had a few already, they're delicious!
Beer without vodka is a waist of money )
Fun fact i live in lithunia
Hello, I am planning to study in Litva for the Erasmus Exchange program and I am a little bit nervous about the language in Kaunas. Do many people speak English there? I am very appreciative getting your response. Thank you in advance!
My Adress Is:Lithuania,Kaunas, Baltijos Street 50-43
oh ur visiting a small village
Im Lithuanian
It's a peasant's food, you eat it and go to fields to do a lot of work.
Hello do you likę Lithuania
n1
It’s nice to see a visit to the Ninth Fort Museum squeezed between strolling in the Old town and trying the local food. My only little problem is that I didn’t get who those mysterious “Nazis” were. You know, those who killed more than 90% of Lithuanian Jews between 1941 and 1944? But that’s OK. Otherwise, this is a very nice video indeed.
It looks nice but where’s the people?
Hi, Laura.
How are doing?
Let's talk honest about the people here. What do you really think about them. Do you think they are racist? You know I'm from Portugal, a Latino type. And I felt pretty not welcome here. In Ignalina (Utena's district) the police stopped me in broad daylight asking for papers and tons of questions, like I was doing something suspect. I wasn't. I was walking down the street at 12am. People always looked at me with suspicion like I was some sort of threat.
It felt so disappointing, 'cause the country is the most beautiful place I've ever seen.
why'd you pronounce 'alėja' like it's spanish 😭😭😭

In Kaunas police broke my 3 tendons in 2018.
Very brutal police and unfair court system.
Far from EU standards.
it's not true at all! Our police officers are very courteous and if you don't brake the law you get no attention, so probably you did and got what you deserved!
I just watched the video you've posetd on your channel with the incident where I assume you were taken into custody. It is clear that the police reacted swiftly to what was happening. It seems you were making trouble in the bar and acting aggressively, so no wonder you were handcuffed while you were acively resisting the arrest. Such behaviour is not welcomed in our country!
@@edmundasada It's seems? You are sick. All my life I worked as security guard.
I never been aggressive.
I called them for help, because someone broke my rights.
You are not normal. With your assumptions you have to go to the doctor.
@@edmundasada I didnt brake the law. My incident was shown on TV twice. Just your intellect level will never allow you to understand what's happened.
@@edmundasada I hope you get what you deserve. Because this kind of people like you have to be jailed, who spreading hatress and aggression.
Very rude and horrible people.
