    Don't worry about the elitists. Present your info and everyone will understand it. No matter how you say Betta, everyone knows exactly what you're talking about. The person trying to correct you on it, is just trying to get attention.

      You're may be right, he/she may be trying to get attention. But it is entirely ridiculous that she is going to knowingly mispronounce a word based solely on the fact that she has mispronounced it her entire life. That is actually a hilarious thing to confess aloud.

    The pronounciation of "Betta" has nothing to do with the fish's survival and wellbeing. Whoever wrote that comment obviously has superiority complex issues with nothing else to prove in life except grammar and pronounciation. Sad.

    Once I was transporting my betta with all of my college stuff and we though we had secured him on the floor (small 1 gallon tank for transportation) but my dad slammed on the breaks and he literally fell out of the tank with all the water and went UNDER my dad's drivers chair and INTO one of the chair gutter things that the chair goes back and forth on. My dad pulled into the nearest place he could find and just asked for half normal water and half tea water from the place to get some normal temperature water and put it in the tank while I had to use my phone light to find the guy. I literally had to pick him up with my fingers, out of the dirty metal gutter BY HIS FINS because there was no other way to get him out he was far back there. I put him back in the tank which I held for the rest of the trip with the water my dad got and some water conditioner I had on hand. He was stressed and I don't know how he didn't die from that but he lived for another year. The poor guy...

      dont worry that doesnt seem as bad as what happened to my fish i left my room and when i came back my cat knocked over its tank and i freaked out and started looking for my fish and I stepped on my fish and it freaked out so i picked it up it still had a little water in its take so u put it in a cup cleaned his cage then put him in it but he somehow survived then i while later i went to clean his cage and i put him in and i put him in too quickly and he died from shock so now i dont own fish cuz no matter how well i take care of them they always die and i dont wanna make any more fish suffer

    I used to have my Betta in a bowl and I over fed it, I regret it! Now he's happier with no health problems in a clean tank with a light, a filter, a heater, a proper amount of food, a good amount of stuff to hide in and a 2.5 tank. I am proud of my research and my change of ways for my fish. I hope he lives long!

    My local fish store buys and sells gently used 2.5-5 gallon tank set ups (heater, filter, light and lid included) which they keep right next to their bettas for around $25-30 and they specifically do not sell fish bowls so that customers are more inclined to buy proper set ups for their bettas. This way, if a brand new fish owner wants to keep a betta in a tiny bowl or cup, they'd atleast have go through the hassle of stopping at another store which prevents a lot of the impulse buys that sell a lot of betta fish.

      Cameron Perez betas DONT need filters. They're actually bad for them. Make an investment in marimo moss. It's just like a filter but no movement. You can get it at petsmart. When your ready to clean it take the marimo moss out and rinse it. It's about $9.

      You are allowed to refuse a sale if you believe the person isn't fit to take care of the animal. Especially if you're at a big chain like Petsmart, if your boss says you can't refuse a sale go to head office because that is seriously against company policy for most pet stores.

      Dusty Rose The Dog This is old, but I recommend
      1. Aqueon MiniBow 2.5 or TopFin 5.5 (they come with a filter and and everything)
      2. It depends on the tanke size. For 2-7 gallons, get a hydor 25 watt heater (amazon has it, about 18 dollars.)
      3.Betas need a variety of food, like they do in the wild. I recommend OmegaOne Betta Buffet Pellets twice a day for 4 days a week, OmegaOne Betta Flakes twice a day, and some sort of treat for it (bloodworms, mysis, daphnia) (doesn't matter which brand) once a day, once a week. Some people recommend to "fast" your betta every once in a while (don't feed it) to give their digestive system a rest.
      4. Thermometer brand doesn't matter, but i use a marina thermometer from amazon.
      Hope this helps! :-)

    I was given a betta a long time ago, her name was Orca. She was the first pet that was my own, not a family one. She was already old and the people who gave her to me expected her to die pretty soon (which was a fucked up thing to do to a 9 year old.) But she lived for another two years after that and we never had a heater with our tank. And then my mom decide it was ok to put a blood frog in the tank without doing any research. Orca killed the frog after a blood worm latched onto her, that's what blood frogs eat. She killed the frog but suffered horrible damage to all her fins. They were torn and brittle looking. I thought she was going to die but she pushed through and recovered. Watching this video shows me that we did everything wrong (except for the tank) and yet she lived so much longer than expected, especially with how ignorant we were about her care. I was so lucky to have her as long as I did and I definitely want to get another in the future. Thank you for the informative video.

    Great video! I did wanna mention something you said about feeding for those who may want to own a betta. The reason why you don’t wanna give bettas too much food is because it can lead to bloating, constipation or problems with the swim bladder. While I agree they should be fed at least once per day, it doesn’t hurt to fast them one day per week to prevent these things. If a betta ever starts to look bloated, try boiling a blanched pea, peeling it and giving some to the betta. This helps with constipation and bloating.

    As a note for your video, you should be sure to tell people not to use marble as a substrate, because I’ve witnessed bettas hurting themselves on it or getting their fins caught under it
    Silk plants are a good option for decor~
    Good tankmates are netrite snails! They only breed in brackish water- so you won’t have an infestation, they also help clean the tank~~

    my sister had a beta fish a few months ago. She kept it in a small little vase and me being the one with lots of fish I had to change her water almost every week. She put a small amount of gravel in and fed it everyday. Then one day ur suddenly died and we didn know why. now I know the fish was in very poor living conditions only having a little space to swim. also we didn't have a heater in there and the water was also very cold. very recently I tried to tell my aunt and sister that the tank needed to be bigger. They didn't listen and told me what about in stores because they are kept in little containers. But those are temporary homes for them and will most likely have bigger space to live. I'm January my sister also got a new fish after the first one died. she got a tropical fish that belonged in schools and needed at least a 60 gallon tank. The fish was kept in the same conditions as the beta. it died in a week. I hope to get my own beta soon because I know more about them. I plan to get a 5 gallon or 10 gallon. If I get a 10 gallon I plan to maybe get like 2 females. idk but thanks for the video plus teaching ppl about betas and I'm not sure if you well ever see this but you hopefully enjoyed my story

      For Sorority tanks for females I was told to get them in at least a group of 5 and with a bigger tank, I can't remember the size but I believe it was 40 gallons or bigger. 10 gallons are great for neon tetras. I have a 5 gallon with a male betta in it alone. I plan to possibly get a mystery snail as well.

      I really want a betta divided tank all I need is a tank and a filter because I don't need a heater as it's super hot where I live and my room temperature is always 76-79 throughout the year so the water is probably just a degree less or so

    • @MusicLover12499
      @MusicLover12499 7 років тому

      Faris Ahmad that’s true, it’s just for betta sororities they need a lot of space because they’re territorial and aggressive. Some people don’t even like them at all. Divided tanks are good though :) sorority tanks have no dividers

    • @leau3199
      @leau3199 7 років тому +3

      This is coming from someone with an embarrassing amount of experience in owning bettas as well as in the fishkeeping community.
      "I'm gonna start a sorority tank!" is exactly like people in The Walking Dead saying "I'm gonna start a town!". At first, if you do it right and get the right group, it'll go well. Might even last a while. But eventually it *will* crash and burn, it will happen extremely suddenly, your favourites will die, the whole event will be very gruesome, and afterwards they'll eat each other.
      Don't do it. Save yourself the stress. Just get dividers or a couple small tanks.

    Betta Fish actually love company and will have shorter lifespans if alone, it is suggested to put them with fish such as neon tetras or tetras to keep them company, also a tank of at least 10 gallons is required for them to be happy, do not keep them alone they will be bored and die a lot faster.

      Drew Meier I agree with you.. I look at it from this point, in the while bettas are bound to run into other bettas\fish. There is so much negativity in the betta keeping world, makes me sad, but I do believe some bettas are uber aggressive and if you want a community tank with more territorial bettas you need at leasttt, 30 gallons. I was blessed with none aggressive bettas, and I'm in the process of setting up my 30 gal for them. I'm so happy someone is open minded about this betta world. all because others have failed at keeping them I'm community tanks doesn't mean everyone will! (: rock on!

    • @mr.purple7233
      @mr.purple7233 8 років тому +1

      Sara Mills the minimum for ONE betta is 2.5 gallons and you can't have anything more than one betta in there (5.5 gallons is a lot better for their personality to shine through) in the wild sure they meet with other fish and other bettas but they have space to swim away and fight for their territory. betta fish are extremely territorial and do not happily interact, its more like tolerate. Wild bettas come across each other and therefore are more passive towards each other but bettas are still not schooling or grouping fish. Especially the bred bettas that don't meet together. I do agree that it depends on the personality of your betta somewhat. Some bettas get bored and unless in a huge tank they will want something to do, which another fish will provide (not another betta) which should only be done in a 10 gallon tank at least.

    This was awesome! I knew a lot of it, as I have been sorta batting the idea around of getting my son a fish. I want something pretty, but also not something that will die right away. My son is forgetful also (even though I would help him and lecture him about feeding time) so I think this helped me decide that this might indeed be the right fish for him. How can you tell males from females? I think it would be so amazing to have more than one in a tank. I have NEVER heard betta being pronounced in that way before. True.. beta is spelled and pronounced the way the fish name is (according to us) but I dunno.. ppl are crazy. Say it however you want. Some of these comments on your posts are insane. There are too many ppl in need of a life. I LOVE what you are doing. Grats on the new camera and future lights!

    Thank you for your informative video! I'll make sure to keep these things in mind when I decide to get another betta fish. When I was roughly 5 years old I had a betta fish that was alive for 5 years. Not a ton of those requirements were met when I had him, unfortunately. The room was really only below the recommended temperature during the colder parts of the winter season, and there was no water filter involved, but my mother had helped me clean out his water every day. I'm now kind of sad to think that I wasn't properly taking care of him (even though I was only 5 years old and we didn't have a computer in the house to help with research), so I will make sure to look into proper care more thoroughly when I decide to get another betta, which I've been on and off about recently.

    Hi Tuh-lore! I'm thinking about getting my first bayTAH and wanted to say thank you for the informative video. I've watched several videos before this one and thought they were pronouncing betta wrong until I watched this one. Still..it's pronounced BAYTAH people.

    I bought a Betta from Petsmart and he only lived for a week. I keeped his tank clean and I conditioned the water as recomended and fed him blood worms, he had plants and a blue fish light...only thing I can think of is maybe the water temp was off, but I keep my house pretty warm so who knows. I had a tank that I once had gold fish in and they all died right away too..is it possible the tank I have is toxic to fish, my 15 gallon tank has 6 small tetras and they have been fine, but this one betta tank seems to be a death tank.

      Colorfull- Song Did you cycle your tank? It's very important to level the water before you put fish in it. They could have died bc of high levels of ammonia or nitrite

    I have a little blue/green iridescent betta named Dos (TWIN tailed half moon). He's been in a temporary 1 gallon, and about to enter a 10 gallon with guppies and tetras.

    You have a new sub!!! I like you and enjoyed this your funny and I have always pronounced betta as you do and I think it sounds funny hearing it the other way! I've had my betta for a few months now he's in a 3,5 tank I'm thinking about going a little bigger. One thing nobody mentions is how they like resting and sleeping close to the surface. The day I bought my betta the leaf with the suction cup he loved it and rests on it all the time.

    I started keeping betta fish this past August. I got a 3.1 gallon tank with a top, filter & an LED light. I didn’t think I’d need a heater (and regular tests said he didn’t) back in August and September when it was super hot inside. Now though, and for the past month, it had been getting cold. Please get a heater early! Way before you need it! Because the day I realized he had fin rot I made a plan to get a heater the next day. He passed away before that could happen. I have another betta now using his established tank, and of course a heater. Besides that he was perfectly healthy and I miss him a lot.
    RIP Bones.

    You are like super funny Teloor, really. In my Dutch Antwerp dialect "teloor" (tuloor) means: a dinner plate.
    And you seem to know some stuff! Great video! 👍👍

    I bought my beta fish from Petco a few months ago and the water was so dirty and disgusting and she had the worst popeye in her eye that I had ever seen. her eye was basically completely out of her head. I went to Petco originally to get some worms for my leopard gecko and some bedding for my guineas. I love to look at the bettas just because I used to absolutely love bettas and I always want to see the new ones. I saw this betta girl with the popeye and begged my mom to let me take her home. I am currently trying to save her. Once I took her home I realized that she actually had popeye in both of her eyes and she couldnt really see very well. Her eyes are slowly getting better and tomorrow I am going to upgrade her to a 10-gallon tank. I love your channel and its really helped me with tips for all of my animals.
