I got mine at the feed store, same place we got the chicks at - most feed, hardware, or livestock stores will sell them. Also there are plenty of online sources.
Hey Alison! I gave them chick starter, sometimes I chose medicated, and sometimes I didn't. 🤷♀️ I can't remember the exact brands, but I tried to choose ones with the best ingredients, often I'd buy organic but not always. And I really liked the ones that contained probiotics to help their little developing guts be a healthy as possible. Also, if I soaked it in water like cereal, it made a mush that they went BANANAS for, and they digested it easier. Lol, that's not too precise, I realize. But hopefully helps!
Can you tell us where you got them from? I’m like 2 years late but I want baby chicks and I’m ready I’m going to get everything necessary for them and take care of them. Where can I purchase them from tho ideally online? I really want silkie chicks
I got mine from a local feed store in Wyoming - Murdoch's. But there are plenty of places you can go to get them online. Meyer Hatchery and Murray McMurray are two of the most popular. But you'll find many others - do a Google search and you'll find one that speaks to you. Some sell show quality Silkies. They're more expensive but they're super fluffy, and you can often buy them by gender. Most other places will be straight run.
Aww~! So cute! I just wanna hug them so tightly! I’m excited for when I get my Silkie 🙂 I’m also getting a Buff Orpington to be its friend, and we’re still deciding what the last chick we get should be... 😄 Any ideas?
They're cuddly, that's for sure! Personally I would get two silkies. They're smaller than the Orpingtons and will prefer each other's company. Are you allowed to have roosters where you live? It's important to know because Silkies aren't typically sold by gender - it's hard to tell. Unless you buy then from a breeder who does DNA tests. If you do want a third type of chicken, I'd try to get one of the more gentle breeds. Easter Eggers, other types of Bantams, Australorps, etc.
Okay! But would it still be okay if it was just the Orpington and the Silkie? They’re both really pretty/cute, and I’ve heard they can get along. I’m going to get them today, actually. And, the place where I am going to, (Pratt’s Pets), sold them by gender, last time I went. I’m just super excited to cuddle they’re little faces! 💝v💝
It be just fine! Our neighbors actually have an Orpington with their silkies. And if they grow up together - that will be perfect! That's awesome you have a place that sells by gender. They also be able to suggest which types will go well together. They're both mild-mannered chickens so they go well together. You just wouldn't want one of the more aggressive breeds with a little silkie. I'm so excited for you! Silkies are so sweet. And Orpingtons. You'll love them both! If you cuddle them a lot when they're young they'll be more tame as adults. 😊 Do you have a brooder and heat lamp for them?
Where can I get the food and water bowls/bottle?

I have the heat lamp, and just a quick question,
I know about (pretty much) everything, but what’s the brooder?
*Elle Mikayla & Tempolyn!* Hahaha it's just a fancy word for the box or enclosure they'll stay in until they're big enough to go outside 😊
