I recently got some with synthetic reeds. You need to squeeze the sides between your thumb and forefinger to bend them into slightly curved shape. Then they should work fine.

Most traditional music are using key in A, but personally I like deep sound of the F key or G key.

You could adjust the blowing side by the wire, it’s similar as other double reed instruments like the oboe.

Did you explain in any of your videos the secret of how to play higher than the first octave?
It's kind of harmonic, you need to move your mouth close to the end of reeds, and try to get high oct.
Thank you for the recommendation...does it overblow by a twelfth (one octave + a fifth), like the clarinet?
