1: at 23:16, the lower third states that "Arizona didn't participate until 2006." This was supposed to say Indiana.
2: at 11:02, technically both definitions of a pound are accurate. "Pound" is an ambiguous term that could refer to pound-mass or pound-force and should probably be specified for sake of clarity.

Honest question, what happened to the vids with you and Jason messing around? These new ones aren't bad, but it feels like it has been like half a year since you guys have messed around doing something silly
Jason moved on to do his own this with Strangerous
Right? The Jason and Brian shenanigans is what made Modern Rogue. I mean this is ok but… yeah it’s missing something that made it great and that is Jason Murphy
Yeah Jason's left so I wouldn't expect that anytime soon.
channels dead anyway.
@@eggquinox5358 it seems to be. I used to binge episodes and look forward to new ones but lately I’ve seen them, clicked on it and haven’t finished an episode. They just don’t pull you in like they used to
You can tell when I've edited one of these episodes and I try to cut the majority of things that make me look dumb versus when Brandt edits and leaves it ALLLLLLLLL IIIINNNNNNNN
I live by a simple code: leave dumb stuff in if it's funny, if we can learn from it, or if it's load-bearing. I find a moderate amount of all 3 throughout modern rogue, tbh.
Ha it's all good! I just think it's funny how different it becomes, especially on an extremely complicated episode like this one!@@BrandtHughes
I love how the editor just slipped in, 'I refuse' at the end of that start. That's just great. 'Nope, this is staying in, you said it on camera, I have the footage, you're stuck with it now!'
I've heard more squarespace ads than I can possibly remember but this was the first one that actually made me chuckle.
Thank you Brandt! (for all the heavy lifting (heavy pushing?) you did for this episode)
Always happy to talk about (and learn more about!) definitions. It's my primary weight training regimen!
@@BrandtHughes you're literally what keeps this from being the JRE.
Imagine if that show had a Brandt! They'd get 10 seconds in, and it'd just be you talking for the rest of the episode!
@@BrandtHughes oh I enjoyed this as a podcast but omg you are 1000% the MPV of this episode and do keep doing this as I found Brian from the skeptic world like 20 years ago and it’s great your keeping them in check :)
When I die, I want my remains scattered over Disneyland. Also, I don't want to be cremated.
Baller
Man you should just go skydiving without a parachute that would do a pretty good job.
I miss the old videos so much.
Always love it when Brandt shows up to explain something to us.
I miss the old Modern Rogue
Same. I skip more than I watch these days.
Are we going to get a best of Jason Murphy compilation/goodbye video?
Did he leave???
What's this about?
Is Jason leaving too?
Yeah he s off on his own channel/thing.
@@tyranidtrygon fuuuuuuck man :( I miss the old days 💔
It's hard to learn how to be a gentleman warrior and scoundrel with you guys just doing talk shows all the time
It’s different now, things change, and that’s okay.
@@gabeflame7803 actually no it isn't. People subscribed and followed for a reason. Look at their views over the past 2 months vs any other videos. These guys are slowly destroying this channel
@@sum1liteamatch these guys are early internet pioneers at this point. you can only do so many rogue related videos
@@gabeflame7803apparently not, because MR just stopped showing up in my timeline... I realzoed and came to check... And things changed and they got removed from my algorithm.
As to the cremation being the same thing... legally in most states it is not. Can't speak for everywhere but I work in that industry and in most places the final "internment" for lack of me wanting to get into all the definitions... A body is considered disposed of it is it A. Buried in casket or B. Cremated. That's why it's ok to spread grandma's ashes in the grand canyon, but not to spread grandma in the grand canyon.
While I agree with the primary argument, I'm pretty sure there are laws against spreading cremation ashes in certain areas, such as national parks that run off into drinking water sources
I iust heard that Jason has left The Modern Rogue, and only will show up randomly in some video 😢.
And the Scam Nation channel. There have been no new videos besides shorts sowing previous clips for years now. That channel is sadly dead ☠️ 😢.
Thanks for correcting the guys and adding your thoughts, Brandt!!! I hope you got some gains from pushing and pulling the "screen".
A slight correction to Brain at 5:40.
I think by "reverse cremation" you were referring to aquamation aka alkaline hydrolysis more commonly known as water cremation. That process doesn't involve injecting the person with chemicals, rather it's more similar to when you used lye to dissolve pig flesh. The body is placed in a tube where a 95% water and 5% potassium hydroxide or sodium hydroxide solution is pumped in to surround the body. It's then heated until the organic matter is dissolved leaving only the "ashes" or solidified calcium phosphate of the bones. Those can be placed into a cremulator and then an urn like traditional ashes and the liquid byproduct can be disposed of like standard water waste.
I majored in philosophy of physics in college. My senior thesis was on modifying popular philosophical views of time to make them consistent with modern physics. I had to both quantize and relativize them in a manner still consistent with the original theories.
There are very few sources that get the philosophy of physics right. The only really good popular source that does... Is PBS Space-time. That was an excellent recommendation. There's too much here to even try to correct in a comment.
Me: "Wait, did dude's hand just disappear behind an edge? He's green-screened!
Him 10s later: Just as we're *obviously* both in Austin TX...
Brian:
SHHHHHHHH
Man, that Brandt guy is real smart, he should do a UA-cam channel about al this science-y metaphysical stuff
That sure would be pretty neat! :D
Hey Doc, if you happen to read this:
maybe Cube Trilogy for your channel?
There's a lot of meat on Cube 2: Hypercube, though they are kinda obscure and I am not ignorant to your targeting of popular franchises.
I still think you should do the Highlander movies though. I'm dying for your take on 2 and 5.
I read it! That could definitely be fun!
Brant explaining things is my favorite parts of this channel nowadays
Brian and Jordan: Just spewing nonsense we thought we heard "somewhere." Brandt: Uh-huh. So, here's what's what
Being an editor gives me an unfair advantage in the looking smart department, because my segments aren't extemporaneous. It's high risk though, because if I incorrectly correct them I'll get *eviscerated* in the comments.
This is gonna become the whole episode. Explain me every god damn Cube movie.
Someday maybe haha
Everyone is saying that Jason left but then why is he still in the profile picture? Maybe he is just taking a short break to start his channel and get it rolling? they never said anything...
I love that he made it clear he was Austin, Texas, but then the green screen glitched a second 🤣
NO IT DIDN'T
Maybe it was Austin that was glitching…
Oh Snap!
I love me some Rogue Breeding!
Listening from Charlottesville, Virginia. I was thrown for quite a loop when that was the chosen city for an example.
That's where I actually live/work/filmed this! haha
One of the "justifications" for daylight savings time back during the energy crisis in 1979 was that children would be easier to see in the mornings when crossing the street to go to school, and the additional sunlight would hep reduce the numbers of car accidents involving children and still-sleepy drivers.
Except the act of changing the times is what creates sleepy drivers. It literally increases the rate of car accidents for approximately 2 weeks after both changes every year.
It's not that everything has already happened and it's set and there is nothing you can do about it. It's that you did everything you will do about it at the same higher planal point. It's not deterministic or predestined. We have free choice, and we can only experience making those choices as we experience moving though time
Good job editor. Everyone knows when they say leave that out You prominently put it in
Jordan: I'm not sure why I talked about The Square.
Brian: And now our sponsor, Squarespace!
🤔
Fine. I'll go watch The One again.
Interesting discussion. If you do the math based on the definition they provide, 1 "Beat" (1/1000 of a 24 hour day) would be about 86 seconds long.
Hey Jordan I was a fan when you were on cracked it's nice to see you again thanks for the laughs
Hey thanks so much! Thanks for watching more stuff (we're making new things on my channel, by the way).
I want an episode of Brandt explaining the many worlds theory and time.
Only this UA-cam channel could go from "How to make camera tazers" to "The quantum mechanics of wave functions" 😂
it wasn't until Jordan brought it up that i noticed he is green screened in. I noticed they were both wearing airpods. but I just thought they were distancing for covid reasons or whatever. but dang that's some good comping.
Brandt did a great job, but also Premiere is just getting better and better at that kind of stuff almost automatically. Even on the episodes I edited I don't think you can really tell.
@@Drjordanbreeding Really didnt expect a response, but I love your work!
@@Wildkidnoremakthanks so much!
Not sure if it has been mentioned or not. Ask a Mortician has some great videos about auqamation. Along with many other honestly fascinating topics.
Regarding Beats/Daylight Saving: We should just convert to UTC. Sincerely. We're not a daylight-centric society. It's similar to beats, but using our current time. If you get up at dawn and dawn is 6am GMT, dawn would come at 11am for the US East coast.
The Lbs, or pound, is not a measurement of mass, but rather one of weight. They both denote the amount of force (in N) that an item excerts on a gravitational reference frame, however they get there by different means.
The pound was made by taking a known weight and comparing it to an unknown one. The unknown weight would thenceforth be known as some fraction or multiple of the given (or, known,) weighted object.
The g (and kilogram, etc) was made using known measurements of *fundamental* aspects of any given material. This is done by determining the volume of the object and using reference materials FOR ONE STEP (generally water, as when determining Delta volume, there is only delta Density in the overall system, it doesn't change in either individual component) to give yourself some numbers to work with. Graph everything, solve for intersections, and wham shablam you have yourself a measurement system that is not based on any one thing individualzed other than by species.
Replying cuz my app is bugged and I can't edit
I'm wrong. It's tricky, it seems it is a unit of mass that can be used as units of force or else, I apologize.
I like the misinformation correction segments
In the original system, 1 meter is defined as 1/10,000,000 the distance from the north pole to the equator over the curve of the earth along the prime meridian. Centigrade is defined as the temperature of the freezing point of pure water at 0, and boiling at sea level at 100. This distance and temperature was then used to define a mass: 1 kilogram is equal to a cube of water 10 cm in all dimensions (the kilo prefix having to do with a term for nobility, graf, being a near homonym for the original name of grav, so swapped out for gramme, shortened to gram, then added back up to 1000 grams to be a useful medium mass) measured at 4 degrees centigrade, the temperature that water is most dense. The volume of that water cube is 1 liter. A second is 1/36000 of the average of a solar day, where the sun gets to the same point in the sky.
Most of the other units are derived off of these. And in recent years, they have been refined and increasingly defined off of light (meter) or physical constants like Planck's constant (kilogram) or very consistent phenomena (seconds), and these measurements have odd numbers to match their original sizes. A competent metrology lab with the data could then reproduce these unit references anywhere in the universe.
Lol I'm only guessing but wouldn't the bugs do most of sucking up and not the tree? 🤢🤮
indeed
I thought this episode was going to address Jason leaving and how you guys should have said something about that sooner.
The Cube movies are fun
Amazing now we just need Answers that should have been questioned sooner
Dr. Jordan Breeding is the best
Awwww no YOU'RE the best
As someone living in Arizona we did not do DST before 2006 nor do we use it after 2006
Whoops, my brain must have just had Arizona on the mind, it was supposed to say Indiana. Good catch! I'll add a correction in the description.
There is a house on the other side of the street from me that has a grave in the basement. Think that is worse than the front yard.
Somthing to keep in mind with the time is a river, why does it have to be moving out into the future. Like is it the first pouring of water to make the river.
You can have an established river, it's beginning and end already exist, but the flow and the content can change. To a leaf floating down it seams to just move forward into 'new' seemingly endlessly. To a rain drop it can make it to the end evaporate and be dropped back off at so other point in the river or even evaporate sooner. Either way the river is, has always been and continues flowing.
Please do a 4;20 version of this!
I want my remains scattered at Disneyworld. But I don't want to be cremated.
Afte hearing him reviewing a movie he watched sometime ago, i now want movie reviews made by Jordan
Well… that’s what my channel is haha (kind of).
Pounds are a unit of force, not mass. This is why torque wrenches list Newton-Meters and Foot-Pounds as equivalent.
You're thinking of a pound-force, which is distinct from a pound. Pound-force is a unit of force, pound is a unit of mass. That said, I admit to be totally oblivious to the existence of the pound-force and that may very well have been what Jordan was referring to.
* edit: after some more reading around, it honestly just seems like "pound" changes at will between force and mass depending on the context and one thing we should all be able to agree upon is that it's unnecessarily ambiguous when not specified.
1 lbf = 1 slug
The misuse of pound as a unit of mass is the only reason I can see the need to specify "pound actually means both!"
@@BrandtHughes Thanks for the Edit. That does make the most sense. The way I was taught it was that Pounds are a unit of gravitational force derived from Earth's gravitational pull. So it acts equivalently to a unit of mass, but ONLY ON EARTH. It wouldn't work out on other planets, moons, or large gravitational bodies. The SI units are a lot more clear: Newtons are a unit of force, and Kilograms are a unit of mass. Pounds are a unit of force, but they're a unit of force derived from Earth's gravity, so for people living on Earth, Pounds can be USED as a unit of mass, but that doesn't mean they ARE a unit of mass.
Hey, i live in Austin Texas!
Ashes spread on the sea is apparently one of the grossest things to encounter when kayaking, since it sticks to everything and has to be scrubbed off.
I mean, the guy who buried his wife can be seen as a problem not because of the practice but the smell, its really hard to contain the smell of a decomposing body, the mythbusters buried pigs and sealed in concrete and still the smell seaped through
The editors, with all of the notes must've hated this one.
The body in the yard having to be cremated first makes sense. No coffin or embalming would start to smell.

as an english person, we cremate everyone here normally, so theres no rip off costs for embalming and caskets. an expensive funeral might be £2000. it seems far weirder to embalm someone, than it is to disolve them and become tree nutrients, eco funererals are becoming very popular over here....

The wave function *does* collapse with the many world's theory, from the perspective of a person experiencing it, as they would not see the other worlds being split off. It's only when an observer outside of these worlds looking at them all that it could be seen as a wave function that never collapses. Where this observer could be, however, is beyond my understanding.

It kinda works and was related to farming originally...at a time when children were expected to help out on the farm over attending things like, say, school for example.
To be fair, the reasons for it get less and less as time goes by...the main one currently being, surprisingly, that it remains lighter for longer at the point children are going to/coming home from school in the winter.
Go figure.

Pounds are a measure of weight. Kilograms are a measure of mass. A pound is defined as weighing the same as a set amount of kilograms on earth.
It's... both. Because things are complicated. There are pound-mass units and pound-force units. The definition in this video is of the pound-mass, which is in fact mass. And it's usually what's referred to when saying simply "pound" in that context. The unit of weight, pound-force, is defined as the force of gravity, measured on the surface of the Earth, applied to one pound-mass.
For me this video kept getting interrupted by the channel "Science less adjacent, and more factual, with Brandt". Did anyone else get that too?

I would rather have Brandt doing these videos rather than Jordan, Brandt seems to care about the facts.
I think that’s an unfair characterization. Put me in the same position of talking conversationally and I would probably have to fact-check myself just as much. I think the friction you’re feeling maybe stems more from the format than from the people.
