This game was brought for me as a gift. I struggled to fully understand the rule book, so thank you for this comprehensive walk through. Now Era 2! I think I need a beer.
Thanks Ian! Not really, the hex tiles are quite easy to read - because the game as a whole takes up so much space though some stuff has to be far away so sometimes the colony sheets are a little hard to see but they can be passed around
Appreciate this walkthrough. I'll have a chance to play tomorrow, but I'm not sure I want to invest the time. Does this do anything that another Uwe engine building, resource conversion game doesn't do in half the time?
It's definitely got engine building & resource conversion, but the game feels like something on its own to me anyway. The movement around the board and how complex it gets as the board expands and your needs change is fantastic, and the scope and escalation of the game is so much bigger than I ever expected
Yes it’s a time vampire as such but no worse than some others …but it’s a game that psychologically one should be prepared to invest some time in as it rewards the time investment…there are a myriad of other games that play shorter and are equally rewarding but it’s horses for courses really …for us it’s mood dependent…with this game to era 4 you know to pack a picnic as you will be at the table for some time lol…
1. Great video. I watched it three times to get the hang of the game, so thank you! 2. What kind of table cloth is that? It looks like it's easy to pick up pieces with that cloth.
Another rules question that I’ve had trouble finding info on: if you have a resource in a buffer, and you remove the worker from the building do you lose the buffered resource if you can’t move it to storage? Likewise if I have 2 resources on a building because the factory allowed it, and I remove the worker from the factory, do I lose the 1 resource if I can’t move it to storage?
slickerdrips, ok I don’t know how I missed that! But, that does not answer the second part of the question. Let’s say I have a Hunting Lodge, and it has a worker, then I get a Factory and it has a green worker. So now during production my lodge generates 4 food. Let’s say I do not move the food from the buffet. Then during the redistribution phase of next season I remove my Factory worker. What happens to the food in my hunting lodge buffer? Does it now only hold 2, so I have to lose 2 of the 4 food? It seems that should be the case (page 11, buffers), but it’s not clear in the rules.
I think it would because the factory's effect increases the buffer so if there's no worker in there you wouldn't get the benefit any more. I can't see a quote in the rules for this though - it might be worth posting in the game's forum on BGG for a definitive answer, the designer is very active in there
+Irek Winnicki more starts happening as the eras go on - after you've seen the later ones era I feels like you're just setting up for the proper game but in a good way
At 42:50 you continued your turn after you had jumped to the market. Please correct me if I am wrong, I think the rules state that if you jump to the market your turn is over.
slickerdrips ahhh!! Now it makes sense. The whole thing about turns and movement was a bit confusing to me. Thanks for the clarification, now I can play the game correctly!!
I am liking the look of this so far. I hope it builds to adding production buildings that use your resources to create better ones... Why are you so mean to make me wait? ;) I think I'd want to replace the resources with wooden pieces... Although maybe stacking would be difficult...
It adds spaces on the board that do that, but your buildings largely produce basic things Yeah as the game goes on and you're stacking 3/4 wood on each space you produce it might become a pain!
The storage with workers reminds me a bit of Puerto Rico, expanding the farm option too. Overall, I guess I'm a bit full-up on resource conversion type games. The basic mechanics seem sensible though. Nice explanations.
Hi Stasia! I'm still deciding for myself, I love the idea and actually playing the game, but I think the length more than anything is a bit much for us
slickerdrips Hi Tom ...excellent walkthrough ...in fact I have enjoyed all you work to date and have subscribed to you both here and on BGG ...keep up the great work mate ...Ric

Great job Tom! Thanks for taking the time to do this.
Thanks Paul!
Well done on a lot of work!
+Heavy Cardboard thank you! This has been the longest game I've done yet and I'm really pleased with the reaction
Great playthrough! I love watching it! Thx a LOT :))
Thank you very much, i really appreciate this video.
I had to learn the game and this tutorial was primary in order to do it.
Great video, looking forward to the next era. Do you find the tiles small when viewing across the table when playing ?
Thanks Ian! Not really, the hex tiles are quite easy to read - because the game as a whole takes up so much space though some stuff has to be far away so sometimes the colony sheets are a little hard to see but they can be passed around

The time is a huge issue though, both 2 player games we've had have taken 2+ hours and that's just for the first two of four Eras

Thanks! It's felt, but cheap felt - £2ish per metre - it's fantastic but gets dirty quite easily

You do lose it - in the redistributing colonists section on page 20 (in the pdf anyway!)

Thanks for gameplay. Is a good first impression left after the following season?

Thank you for your reply game already been ordered :)
Cant wait Era II :D

It counts as your turn, but Colonists works in a bit of a strange way where each player gets 3 turns in a row

Great job sir!
Thanks!
This is excellent.
Thank you!
Thank you for the play through, Tom. I was excited about seeing the game play, but now having seen it, I think the game is not for my daughter and me.
Hi Stasia! I'm still deciding for myself, I love the idea and actually playing the game, but I think the length more than anything is a bit much for us
slickerdrips Yeah, the length is the biggest negative for us too.
Can players even see the text from that board??
On the hexes? We've had no trouble - though someone else has asked the same question, maybe I should have zoomed in
