Is Jesus really present in the Eucharist? How? And what exactly is transubstantiation? In this episode of Aquinas 101: The Sacraments, join Fr. Dominic Legge, O.P., a Dominican friar from the Province of St. Joseph, as he explains how Jesus is really present in the Eucharist through transubstantiation.

@michaelf6705 Hello Michael, can I tell you that I study the words of Holy Scripture daily, and I know that we are in the world, not of the world, and, therefore, realise that the grace given to me freely, by Almighty God, to encourage my salvation, is the only occurrence which is of any importance, and my cooperation with His grace is essential for my salvation.
Do you consider yourself the arbiter of absolute natural and supernatural truth? Why are you so certain that my knowledge of Holy Scripture is not equal to your own?
Please do not make presumptions about my eternal salvation.
Allow Almighty God to judge me.
Thank goodness for the everlasting mercy of Almighty God, compared with the short-lived mercy of man.

@michaelf6705 I agree, we must live our lives according to Almighty God's divine positive law. Each moment of each day I attempt to cooperate with God's grace. By this, I mean I pray, I keep God's ten commandant, and, as a Catholic I attend the scarfice-scrament of the offering of the Holy Eucharist, at Mass. Of course I depend, and am constantly grateful to God for giving me His grace.

Through my own Eucharistic miracle I was blessed to know our Holy Communion we receive in our Catholic mass truely is Jesus and not a symbol....After weeks of being distressed during mass with this question of how do you really know I brought Holy Communion home to my elderly 94 year old Mom in a church approved pix container....My Mom was making her rosaries ( about a 100,000 to date ) as I got home from Sunday evening mass . I said Mom I have communion for you. When I reached for the Eucharist from my pix container O was started to see that there was a pure white dove out stretched and as if inlayed on my Holy Eucharist host. Incredible !! My Mom acted no different when I gave her the comminion host. The next day I called the church where I got the Holy Eucharist host from and the priest said our communion hosts have no white doves on them. they are all the same; a plain wheat colored communion host....The next day I googled white dove and Holy Spirit and immediately Luke 3:22 came up. That bible verse is about the baptism of Jesus and states: And the spirit of God came down upon him in the shape of a dove and a voice from heaven said this is my beloved son in whom I am well pleased....Well that hit me like a ton of bricks cause I instantly knew God had answered the distressing questions I was having with mysrlf during mass I that I mentioned earlier ...The dove came down upon Jesus in the bible verse , there was a white dove on my Holy Communion host...Yes! God just miraculously told me the Holy Communion host we receive in our Catholic mass has been transfored by the priest to be the ACTUAL body of Jesus !!! Yes this really happened to me about four and a half years ago !! Yeah and obviously no more of those distressing questions come to me during mass anymore....Yes, Jesus Christ TRUELY is present through our Ctholic priests in the Holy Commumion we receive during mass...So please be truely ready for Holy Communion by going to Confession often. I am trying to explain the Eucharist to my sister who is a Protestant Evangelical (of the Charismatic sort). When I said that Jesus was really, truly present, body, blood, soul, and divinity, she gave me this really confused face. When I told her that it was the substance of Christ's body, she was almost offended. To her, Jesus is always present. And I said, "Yes, Jesus is always made present by the Holy Spirit, but Jesus' body is present in a special way that is different from him being made present by the Holy Spirit in the day to day." To be sure, the teaching that Jesus is really and truly present body, blood, soul, and divinity... it is a hard teaching. But man, is it absolutely beautiful when you begin to understand it.

I grew up in a Protestant home. I remember asking my parents why Catholics believe the bread and wine are the body and blood of Christ and "we" don't even though the Bible says they are. My parents said that it was just a Catholic thing, and "we" don't believe that. Always found that argument a little weak. Probably why I'm a Catholic now.

That's because it's unbiblical and an abomination that causes desolation. Yea, he [antichrist beast] magnified himself even to [against] the prince of the host [Christ], and by him the daily sacrifice was taken away, and the place of his [Christ] sanctuary was cast down. {Daniel 8:11} (Here the place of the true sanctuary is being cast down: see Rom 8:1) And arms shall stand on his part, and they shall pollute the sanctuary of strength, and shall -take away- [call/bring back] the daily, and they -shall place- [set up] the abomination that maketh desolate. {Daniel 11:31} --Jesus at his crucifixion caused the sacrifice and the oblation of the daily to cease. (Daniel 9:27) And from the time [508 A.D.] that the daily (sacrifice) shall be -taken away- [call back] and the abomination that maketh desolate set up, there shall be a thousand two hundred and ninety days. ("The time of the end") {Daniel 12:11} (The spurious sanctuary being set up in place of the true sanctuary in heaven, which is what the terminus quem gives us.) This is the antichrist beast of Rome who thinks to change times and laws of God, and who in their own words thinks to reinstate the literal sacrifices (daily) that Christ caused to cease with his one perfect sacrifice (Dan 9:27). The Roman mass is the abomination that maketh desolate: (And it was practiced and prospered.) The eucharist of the Sun-day resurrection (as they refer to it) is in their own words a literal sacrifice to Christ resurrection, but Christ made it (the last supper) to be a memorial to his death till he comes again. This was set up in 508 A.D. and will continue till Christ comes to execute his judgments.

jump over to Brandon Robbins video Why Christians Eat Flesh and Drink Blood... He does an amazing job explaining it
Transubstantiation was created in 1215, the same time the Catholic Church created confession. They claim Apostlic Succession, but in a sense that as the last Apostle, John died, so did the apostlic age, and apostolic authority. No Priest can forgive sins or transmutate anything!

Being before the passion of Christ, can grant the imagination some help when entering in through faith, and grant us a deeper union in our worship with Christ, otherwise sometimes we encounter Christ as though he were present, but in a static manner.

Your clarification that the "wheat" property is an "accidental" that remains while the "substance" turns into Jesus is helpful to me. Well I don’t believe that the change is like Schrödinger’s cat where if taken by a believer it’s the Body and Blood while if taken by an unbeliever it becomes ordinary bread and wine. I think it’s an objective change in that each drop and particle is the Body and Blood of Christ until the accidents are no longer that of bread and wine via digestion, dissolving, etc. If it were like Schrodinger’s cat then the Church would not have strictly guarded its reception as it historically did and should continue to do. As for the grace received, as with all sacraments it can only be received by a baptized individual.

St. Thomas wouldn't distinguish between Christ's "physical" body and his heavenly body, after the resurrection. His physical body has become heavenly and spiritual. As St. Paul says in 1 Cor. 15:44, what is sown is perishable, a physical body, and what is raised is imperishable, a spiritual body. Jesus only has one physical body now, and it is the glorified and "spiritual" body of the resurrection.

Yet this is exactly what thr catholics and any Christian denomination that have this high view of the eucharist ask of us. To simply believe god is performing something miraculous when nothing of our senses would ever be able to show us that being the case. Youed never know a miracle was happening if you weren't being told so.
.it's not that god couldn't perform miracles that we can't verify with our senses. He most certiantly can. But God never once asked anyone in scripture to believe a miraculous work that wasn't actually sensible to the person/people in question.

      Think about that.

All miracles in the Bible were visible. The wine is still wine and the bread still bread. Yet, the miracle of forgiveness is still available.

Jesus was physically sitting right there when He said this is my body. That same day in the Hebraic calendar, He gave Himself up on the cross and stated “Father, into your hands I commit my spirit”. It is this spirit that makes a person part of the body of Christ when one experiences the born again experience, John 3:8. We have no control over it, it is like the wind.
If Jesus was physically sitting right there when He said it, then you can’t say the physical bread was His physical body. His body was physically broken that day, just like the bread as it was being passed around. There is a spiritual application, that Roman Catholics miss here.
Also, if I show you a picture of my Dad, and say “this is my Dad”, does this mean the picture is physically my Dad? No, of course not.

When He said this, it was on the same day He died on the cross in the Hebraic/Jewish calendar. His body was given up, He was beaten, clothes torn, scars on His body etc. (just like the breaking of bread by the Apostles). Then He was on the cross, and He said "Father, into your hands I commit My spirit". It is this spirit that makes one a part of the body of Christ. You can eat bread all day long, this does not make you a part of the body of Christ. When one experiences regeneration by God, they enter into the body of Christ. Jesus said "No one can come to Me, unless the Father who sent Me, draws him.". It is this drawing by the Father, one enters into the body of Christ. We have no control over it. If you want to dodge and go round in circles and give ridiculous examples of showing your dad's picture for whatever reason, that's your choice. Jesus said it plain and simple, 'this is my body'. Apparently these simple words don't sit well with protestants they want to fill an entire book trying to make up their stories moving as far away ss possible from His words. He held up bread and said, 'this is my body, of the wine, this is my blood. If they weren't really His body and blood would Jesus have said they were? He could easily have just blessed the bread and wine and told them to do that in remembrance of Him. In John 6 He had told His disciples, 'unless you eat the flesh of the Son of man and drink His blood you have no life in you'. Yeah Jesus said those words and then He did not teach His apostles how they were going to eat His flesh and blood? He said at the Last Supper, 'do THIS in remembrance of me'. 'THIS' refers to what He had just done, blessing bread and wine and saying CLEARLY they were HIS BODY and BLOOD. If a dear friend of yours shows you how to do something on his death bed entreating you to 'do this in his memory' wouldn't you want to repeat what he showed you in order to achieve the same results he had? Jesus said ' this is my body... my blood' if Jesus did not convince you that He was telling the truth, how can I ever hope to convince you?!

I guess the question is. Was Jesus speaking literally or figuratively when he said those words. I believe it was the latter. But that’s just me. I mean wine is wine and not blood just as bread isn’t flesh.

Truly, truly, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of man and drink his blood, you have no life in you; he who eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day.
For my flesh is food indeed, and my blood is drink indeed. He who eats my flesh and drinks my blood abides in me, and I in him.
As the living Father sent me, and I live because of the Father, so he who eats me will live because of me For my flesh is meat indeed, and my blood is drink indeed. He that eateth my flesh and drinketh my blood, dwelleth in me, and I in him.” This was too much for many of his disciples and “From that time many of his disciples went back, and walked no more with him.” Jesus turns to the 12 and asks, “Will ye also go away?
Vs 61, Jesus did not back down, for He said, "Does this offend you?" it offends protestants. They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer.
There is no other passage in the New testament other than John 6: 35-56 where Jesus emphasizes his teaching repeatedly. In the Gospel of John, four times our Lord says that he is the bread and five times He says that its his flesh we have to eat. He instituted this sacrament by giving his flesh to eat in the upper room in Jerusalem on the eve of the Passover (Matthew 26:26-28) We understand that Eucharistic sacrament he instituted was again celebrated at Emmaus after his resurrection (Luke 24: 30-31).😃😃

This is my body and this is my blood. Do this in memory of me. What part of this do i find difficult to understand? If I believe in miracles, then this is a miracle and no further correspondence will be entered into. If i don't believe in miracles, then eternal salvation is probably not my cup of tea.
Pretty simple really, for God and Jesus knew that to communicate with humans, then things would need to be in the simplest of forms. Only humans are motivated by complication and confusion so I prefer God's idea of invoking the KISS principle.

The Eucharist to give people salvation who don't have the Holy Spirit yet.
John 6:63 Jesus tells us that real flesh is worthless and it is the Holy Spirit in the Eucharist.
Peter responds and says yes your words of the Eucharist are to bring everlasting salvation. And that the disciples and friends are already saved.

To answer to a comment, please notice that The GOSPEL teaches us that JESUS himself founded the Christian worship and consacrated the first priests of the History (his apostles) at the table of the last supper

Christ remains as bread because we are not capable of consuming a human being. He remains as a consumable substance for our human nature. The same principle is applied for His Blood.

The Last Apostle who drank from the Cup of Christ (Blood of Christ) had all the SALIVAS from all the Apostles who drank from it, perhaps including Judas Iscariot, for in one of the Gospels, Judas was narrated present in the Breaking of the Bread (Body) and distributing of the Cup of Wine (Blood) to the Apostles which they never complain drinking from one (single) cup only... In those days, mouthwashes and toothbrushes had not yet been invented, so most likely possible they had more contaminants in their SALIVAS than with us today.
If the Roman Catholic CHURCH took what Christ Jesus had said was LITERAL Body and Blood into the Bread and Wine... and the Apostles never complain about drinking from ONLY "One Cup" based on their FAITH in Christ... therefore, why does the R.C.C. more concerned about the HEALTH of the Priest and those who will be the PARTAKERS?... they need to wash first their hands before touching the Holy Eucharist, and they should have separate drinking cup separate from the Priest and Church members... Does this mean the R.C.C. really never TRULY believes 100% in the "LITERAL SUBSTANTIATION?"... Or perhaps just a "SPIRITUAL REPRESENTATION?"
In fact, Christ Jesus himself broke the Bread and dipped the Broken Bread into the Cup of Wine (Blood) and gave it himself to Judas who took it and ate it, which makes Judas Iscariot still part of the 12 Apostles, even though he betrayed Christ...
Take note:... Judas ate first the Broken Bread (Body) dipped with Wine (Wine) "BEFORE" Satan entered Judas' body (possessed) and took control of him to carry on the TASK of betraying the Son of God (Christ), according to the Bible... (ref. Luke 22:3 / John 13:27)
In conclusion, I believe that on the Judgment Day of God, God will be more MERCIFUL, TOLERABLE, and FAIR/JUST with Judas Iscariot for his atrocity (betrayal and suicide), just like for the People from the Cities of Sodom and Gomorrah... for Judas did not do it by himself alone, Satan needed to enter Judas' body (possessed him) to carry on the crime of Betrayal to the Son of God, according to Luke and John's Gospel...
Satan knew all along that Judas Iscariot could not carry the ATROCITY TASK by himself alone... Satan was the mastermind of the Betrayal of Christ Jesus...
Even in the Law of Man, nobody is convicted if proven without any reasonable doubt that the person was under a temporary or permanent INSANITY during the time of the crime committed... How much more would God fairly judge who knows EVERYTHING...
The Broken Bread (Body) dipped with Wine (Blood) which Christ Jesus himself gave to Judas Iscariot and ate before Satan entered Judas' body will be Judas Iscariot's "SAVING GRACE" on Judgment Day of God... Praise be to God in Christ Jesus... Amen.

All christian priests have achieved the capability to perform this miracle of converting bread into flesh and wine into blood. But, they did not get the capability to perform miracles such as converting water into wine or multiplying the bread to feed the multitude.

Yet, the true question is this: so what? Whether it was his true body or not? How is that related to the economy of salvation if one believes he died in the cross and resurrected?
