    Your music is beautiful. Found you online when we were trying to find musicians who would play like my 5 year old. She loves music and has right side hemiparesis from a stroke. We wanted to see how we could help her learn to play the ukulele. Still figuring that out, but we watch a lot of your videos with her playing along. Thanks for sharing your talent and dedication.

      Hi R's Progress Thank you so much, greatly appreciate your kind words! So blessed to hear that your helping to kindle the love of music in your daughter, that's awesome! If y'all have any questions about technique let me know, I'll try to help however I can! I'm not overly familiar with Ukulele, but have played a friends a bit utilizing the same method that I do on the guitar and it seems to translate over in much the same way. All the best! 👍🏻

    Bro, speechless... I was lead vocals in a few bands when I was younger. I was in a wreck in 2005, I'm now a quadriplegic. My left hand is pretty much useless. I'm now 51 and you made me want to try again. I have an acoustic Fender that my son gave "back" to me. I have a hundred questions..lol. From best thumb picks to what equipment you use. Would love to talk to you on the phone!. I know I can't put my # here but is there a way you can get hold of me personally?? Let me know bro. -Chris.

      Hi Chris, thanks for writing in! Sorry to hear about your accident in 05', but I'm happy to say that you should definitely be able to start playing guitar if you've got decent use of your right hand. As you can see in my videos, my left hand is pretty much useless as well. Did you use to play guitar before your accident?
      As for best picks I recommend the Dunlop "Tortex" material thumb picks. (They are a translucent gold color and the Tortex material keeps them from sliding off your thumb unlike others I've played with). If you want to connect with me please feel free to write to: onehandedguitar@gmail.com
      Thanks & All the best! 👍🏻

      Hi Cynthia! That would be an absolute honor!
      Let me know when you get your anime started, then lets talk about putting some backing music to it! Not sure if you've heard my recorded single Mountain, but here is a link to it: indiedirk.bandcamp.com/
      That is the style that I like to write in.

    I just wanted to say Hi. I have a paralyzed arm and hand. I come from a family of guitar players and have two cousin on the radio right now. I grew up playing guitar, surrounded by music. I then had a motorcycle wreck and lost use of my arm so I gave my guitars away including my pride and joy 12 string Gibson. It hurt to much to see them and not be able to play. That was 30 years ago and I still miss playing. I saw your video and think your method of playing is doable. I am going to give it a shot thanks to you. I ordered a epipone electric and cant wait for it to get here. I am excited to begin relearning the guitar in a new way.

      Hi there Do It Yourself! I am very excited to hear this! Of course very sorry to hear about your accident, but really happy that you are going to give guitar a try again! You'll have to post a video of your playing once your new rig comes in! If you run into any questions along the way, please don't hesitate to reach out! I'm very happy to share what I've learned along the way! Rock on! -Dirk

      Hey Dirk! It arrived a few days ago ! My fingers are already sore. Question...... I have been trying to play the g and b7 cords. Every finger placement I can think of puts my thumb low on the fret board making it hard to pick the top E and A strings. I am wondering how you do it? Thank you for being you.. Jeff

    • @OneHandedGuitar
      @OneHandedGuitar  6 років тому

      Hi there Jeff, That's great that it arrived, a very exciting day for sure! I'm sure they are sore! I remember that "growing callous' " stage well! So to answer your question on G & B7 and any chord that spans the width of the neck (all 5 or 6 strings) the answer is in your wrist and elbow. Try moving them up & down to make your thumb reach different areas. It's also muscle memory and just getting used to the unique positions that playing this way require your hand to be in. I remember when I first started chords.. it was very awkward feeling, but you'll get it the more you do it! (I realize it's been a several days since this comment, I apologize for my delay, I was out of town for a bit with limited connectivity... that said, I'm curious if you've had luck with the above in the meantime?) Rock on Jeff! -Dirk

      My wrist has limited range of movement and i think thats a problem for the guitar. Yes I am moving wrist as much as i can, elbow, shoulder and experimenting with ways to hold the guitar. I havent been able to strum the complete g chord at with the thumb. But I practice twice a day, it will come.

      @OneHandedGuitar  6 років тому

      Hey Jeff, Awesome, that twice a day practice is going to get you there! You got it man!
