Sleight of Hand in SLOW MOTION - Is the hand quicker than the eye?! (Bad idea)

  • Today I'm going to put Sleight of Hand magic to the ultimate test! I shot a few sleight of hand card tricks in 120 frames per second to see if, despite my skill, you could see how the card trick was done. Probably a terrible idea..

    Most people know that it isn’t actually magic, they know it’s done by sleight of hand. What is so enthralling is when it’s done so damn well and so quickly that it looks like it’s magic. We appreciate the skill of it all, and this video proves that! When you can slow your tricks down this much and they can still fool the eye, that speaks to how talented you truly are. In short, kick ass idea. Love this channel.

    Have watched a few of your videos lately and finally subscribed on this one. I am not a magician, but love watching close-up magic. I have long maintained that watching a great magician is never really about the tricks, it's about the skill with which he or she performs them. Like watching a Jordan play basketball. We know how he's doing what he's doing, the marvel is that he put in all the time and practice to be able to do it better than we ever could. Love the videos, love your love for the culture of magic, and look forward to seeing more great content from you.

    This was awesome !! Sleight of hand is juggling, not magic. It is an amazing skill and a beautiful art form. If someone looks at it and sees something mystical then I am a little saddened by it. We know, that you are manipulating the cards so there is nothing wrong with knowing how you do it. Being able to slow it down to see the true juggling is far more impressive. I took forever learning to juggle like you took forever to do the sleights that you do. It’s not like some simple card trick that you can pick up in a few minutes. Chris, being able to slow it down yourself, helps you improve your craft. And being able to pat yourself on your back for a well done trick is rewarding in itself.
    Thank you for your skills they are amazing!!

      Beyond learning a few coin tricks here and there and briefly studying the theory of magic, I'm hardly a performer 😁 but I felt I should question your perspective.
      i was reading the Harlan Tarbell course some time ago and, from what I remember, it really emphasized on the patter and how magic must be kept as something of wonder, at least in the eyes of the spectator.
      Don't you think that if more people start seeing sleight of hand as just manual dexterity, the "magic" of it will eventually disappear? (no pun intended)

      @srinitaaigaura 5 років тому +1

      @@nattybynature1262 Everyone logically knows that it is sleight of hand already, but our body and emotions work differently. They don't think, they merely perceive. That's where the magic effect comes from.

    Brother, I watched David Blain do things with cards and knew it was about serious slight of hand, and doing magic card tricks for my friends, they were amazed. But I sucked. I was sloppy. I figured some things out and snap! You showed me how it was done. I snapped a card change and palmed and changed it back. Barely pulled it off. But, it’s about skill. Practice. Card control. Thank you for showing how it’s done. My friends think I’m magic. My hands are fast. I practiced for hours. Still, I’m no where near your skill. I fuck up a lot. But when I blow their minds it’s so cool. You are the best my friend, thank you. Aloha from Hawaii.

    I'm an old guy who's played with this stuff on and off my whole life and never seriously. I'm doing it again because I want to be magical for my grandkids so this time round (it's been years) I've got UA-cam as a learning platform. The ability to see what's going on is in my mind at least a very positive thing. I film myself and slow down the motion so I can see where and how I can improve. As a result of having great teachers (like you BTW, CR) and the ability to evaluate not only my own proficiency but that of those that do the slights properly, I've improved 500% over my former ability in a very short time.
    You're a great teacher BTW, I've seen MANY and I think you're brave to do a video like this and it shows great integrity as well.

    I think even @ slow motion, it simply shows how clean and smooth your skills are man; no one is going to pass the surveillance and technology levels that are available today.. just think what we're in for in another decade! Regardless; yes it does reveal more than we wish it would but I have to say aside from showing things that some may not have been aware how these illusions were done, show the level of skill, fluidity, and mastering of these techniques you've taken and perfected to the level of a master that you truly are man, so no worries Sir! Great video as always Chris!

    Man it doesn’t matter that we can see how it’s done now, the magic isn’t in being deceived it’s in knowing that something tricky is going on and we can’t see it. Nobody can see in slow motion, so it’s really just a testament to how much practice people put in to perfecting these in normal motion

    Awesome video. You are 100% correct, anyone can watch Shin's routines or anyone elses on Fool Us, AGT, etc. and "see" things you can't see in real time when watching on UA-cam. Been a long time magic lover, and I don't think this detracts from magic at all, it gives you a great appreciation at just how fast and dextrous you guys are, so many hours of practice. As evidenced by a few of your tricks that are virtually undiscernible even when slowed down, very impressive. Thanks for doing this and having fun with it, enjoyed it immensely!

  • @rythegeneral511
    @rythegeneral511 5 років тому

    I dont think the tricks are diminished at all by the fact that you see how they are done. I def agree with you that the "magic" is the total package, not just the mechanics of the sleight. It's what you make your audience believe. It's how you control their perception and your trick montage is SICK. The fact that we can see how it's done just shows the amount of skill you have and gets new ppl into magic.
