I agree Matt, they want to stay relevant & fresh, and to do that they have to change with the times. They are just as good as ever, just different, but every album has had a different sound from the last. FOB are changing and evolving with the times and some people will hate and others will embrace it and love it. While they might lose fans they are sure to gain new ones. Patricks voice has evolved over the years and I personally think it is fantastic!

The thing about bands, especially ones like FOB or MCR(RIP T-T) is that as the members get older and the band progresses, their music evolves. While it may not be what you usually listen to or your favorite genre(the newer stuff), if the band is truly that good, the music will still be good. However, if it's not, you still have the old stuff. Don't let not liking the band's new music ruin your love and dedication to the band. Nick Chowdrey and others complaining about FOB being dead, I agree. The old FOB is. This sounds nothing like their old album, but I think that their talent and lyrics make a song work that if by anyone else, wouldn't. Also you have to admit, this songs not bad.(personally i love it)
To the people hating this just because it's different: Fall Out Boy experiments TONS with their music. They never release similar albums twice. They're constantly growing and changing. I hate to sound elitist, but if you even listen to all their singles chronologically, you can hear the differences. It doesn't have to be the same, save rock and roll was a decent change for me, but it gave them mainstream success and this song is the result, a pretty generic pop song that ironically won't be remembered for a very long time. I like the song, but it's not the same as when they released the phoenix a couple years back and it was all i could listen to for days on end...

Is Centuries Fall Out Boy's best song? No, but it's still a good song compared to a lot of the other music being released today. Does it hold up to their older stuff? I can't say because I haven't heard the album and the rest of the songs. Band members grow older and their views on subjects change. You can't expect a band that's 15-20 years old to have the same views now as they did when they started out. Honestly, if you're going to stop listening to them because their sound has changed, it shows how much of a fan you are. You still have their old stuff and aren't being forced to listen to the newer albums.

I've been a Fan for atleast a year now, and i love ALL of their music, From TTTYG to SRAR... i love them all! i think that all the changes that their going through is awesome, it only prepares us for the unexpected
It's frustrating that complaints spike so much when new music comes out. Their fanbase encompasses a range of ages and personalities and it's really fun to interact with everyone between releases. Then we're excited about new stuff and want to celebrate, but many of the online gathering places experience a temporary influx of passers-by complaining and trolling. It's the way it works for every artist, but it's still tiresome.

I just reached the point of: "I like FOB being different, trying new things even they don't get back to the roots". With Save Rock And Roll I was like "Meh, I want old Fall Out Boy". It was different from their older stuff but, actually, Folie A Deux was different as well. And so was Infinity On High. The changed through their albums and their biggest change was SR&R. Anyway, they said "The future of FOB starts now" when they came back from the hiatus. For me that was like "there we go, let's try something new". People don't have to like all FOB stuff just because they're FOB, but because they really enjoy what they hear as FOB enjoy what they play. I really like this song because it's good, it's catchy and it's powerful. Not in the way of pop-punk songs but in it's own way. Most of the bands I listen to have changed to good or bad, I got used to that and I think it's better to evolve than getting stuck in the same music.

And you can't say that they aren't experienced artists. It's mote personal prefence and where the artists want the music to go rather than experience.

Why must Patrick overproduce everything? The bridge in this song is honestly one of the corniest I've ever heard lyrically, this is terrible music! These guys used to stand out, now they are another PANIC! where everyone obsesses over Brendan! This isn't anything new, just really cheesy lyrics with a terrible backtrack. I've supported so many other bands "change" Paramore, Linkin Park, Green Day, even Blink is different nowadays! Brandon Powell Not true at all. It's not all on Patrick anymore. That's the main reason the band split in the first place. Pete, Joe, and Andy have a lot more say in production now than they ever have. This in all honesty is the best song since the hiatus. Musically it's theatrical and epic. Lyrically it's still great. "I'm the opposite of amnesia. And you're a cherry blossom, you're about to bloom. You look so pretty but you're gone so soon." That's reminiscent of Folie a Deux lyrics which are arguably a collection of Pete's best. And Patrick's voice has grown so much over the years. If you've heard Pax Am Days (which is still great), then you know Patrick's voice doesn't really fit that type of music anymore. A vast majority really like this song, and these guys aren't going anywhere any time soon.
I honestly don't understand what you guys are complaining about when it comes to FOB sounding "different". They didn't drastically change over night, they evolved into a new sound slowly, and it still sounds like their other music to me. Hence, I like it.

To the people hating this just because it's different: Fall Out Boy experiments TONS with their music. They never release similar albums twice. They're constantly growing and changing. I hate to sound elitist, but if you even listen to all their singles chronologically, you can hear the differences. You can't expect them to rewrite From Under the Cork Tree or Take This to Your Grave repeatedly. People would get tired of it.

People are constantly complaining about Fall Out Boy's music changing but do you realise how fucking boring it would get if every album they released sounded the same. They work so hard to make each album new and unique from the rest. If you liked the FUTCT era, go listen to that album. If you like TTTYG, go listen to that. Is Centuries Fall Out Boy's best song? No, but it's still a good song compared to a lot of the other music being released today. Does it hold up to their older stuff? I can't say because I haven't heard the album and the rest of the songs. Band members grow older and their views on subjects change. You can't expect a band that's 15-20 years old to have the same views now as they did when they started out. Honestly, if you're going to stop listening to them because their sound has changed, it shows how much of a fan you are. You still have their old stuff and aren't being forced to listen to the newer albums.

It's frustrating that complaints spike so much when new music comes out. Their fanbase encompasses a range of ages and personalities and it's really fun to interact with everyone between releases. Then we're excited about new stuff and want to celebrate, but many of the online gathering places experience a temporary influx of passers-by complaining and trolling. It's the way it works for every artist, but it's still tiresome.

I just reached the point of: "I like FOB being different, trying new things even they don't get back to the roots".
With Save Rock And Roll I was like "Meh, I want old Fall Out Boy". It was different from their older stuff but, actually, Folie A Deux was different as well. And so was Infinity On High. The changed through their albums and their biggest change was SR&R.
Anyway, they said "The future of FOB starts now" when they came back from the hiatus. For me that was like "there we go, let's try something new".
People don't have to like all FOB stuff just because they're FOB, but because they really enjoy what they hear as FOB enjoy what they play.
I really like this song because it's good, it's catchy and it's powerful. Not in the way of pop-punk songs but in it's own way. Most of the bands I listen to have changed to good or bad, I got used to that and I think it's better to evolve than getting stuck in the same music.

my only complaint about this song is that it sounds more computerized or fake like most stuff on the radio which isnt something i was expecting. that was something i loved about them, they always sounded real and you knew where all the sounds were coming from. this isnt hate or anything! i still really like the song! not my favorite fall out boy song but im still super excited to see what the new album will have in store :)

Pete, Joe, and Andy have a lot more say in production now than they ever have. This in all honesty is the best song since the hiatus. Musically it's theatrical and epic. Lyrically it's still great. "I'm the opposite of amnesia. And you're a cherry blossom, you're about to bloom. You look so pretty but you're gone so soon." That's reminiscent of Folie a Deux lyrics which are arguably a collection of Pete's best. And Patrick's voice has grown so much over the years. If you've heard Pax Am Days (which is still great), then you know Patrick's voice doesn't really fit that type of music anymore. A vast majority really like this song, and these guys aren't going anywhere any time soon.
I honestly don't understand what you guys are complaining about when it comes to FOB sounding "different". They didn't drastically change over night, they evolved into a new sound slowly, and it still sounds like their other music to me. Hence, I like it.

I'll admit that I like their old stuff more, but this still is distinctly Fall Out Boy. I, for one, still like their new stuff. It still has their sound and feel to it, it's just different than their old stuff. NBD. If you don't like what they've become, no one is forcing you to listen.

Rio Grady well...i generally liked SRnR, some of the songs sounds like their old stuff, but like i said (or i should say): i like them (even new stuff), i like even this song, its still pretty good, but i just liked old stuff more you know. things like Dance Dance or Thnks fr th mmrs are just classic
