I 100% back this thought. I started up in filmmaking UA-cam, but these days it’s just people sitting behind a desk and not being creative. It’s a shame, because clearly the talent is there because we’ve seen it. As of a few months ago I’ve made the conscious choice to stop doing the same thing. I want to educate & entertain. Thanks for your thoughts! I’m subscribing to the Lumix gang (although I’m a Sony guy now 😝). GH5 and S1H were my firsts
I've been feeling the same way about those very content creators. I was going to say something in their comments but didn't want to sound like a hater. But it's simply facts you are speaking. I can't even watch them anymore.
Just got to the end, I actually love this, I think we can all benefit from a “1 for you, 1 for me” in terms of content. Sometimes the hard part is as much as the community misses that content, at least for me, they don’t show up when it’s raw authentic content, or a film I did 👎🏾 it’s not an excuse, but a daily challenge
Thanks for checking out the video! I understand what you mean about putting in work to tell a story and it doesn't get views but a video sitting and talking about gear can go viral. I think that it's because the audience and new filmmakers/Content Creators have been conditioned to put the gear before the art. It's going to take great filmmakers like yourself to help recondition us to learn what filmmaking is really about. Get you money though, you deserve everything good coming your way.
@@Bigcookfilms you’re 100% correct, I’ve put up short films, vlogs and docs and immediately get asked what they should buy and I’m scratching my head thinking “wait I wasn’t trying to sell anything 😅” Message received I’ll definitely put more into some stories 🙏🏾
@KofiYeboah Bro...I understand about people asking what gear they should buy. I think they do that they do that so they can have someone to blame if they don't like it.
I started out with a a6000 back in the day and tbh i didn't put in the time or effort in to learning good practices and pushed for a a7iii, then i got the a7iii and same thing i then wanted and a7iv and now i have a fx3 and c70 which sounds awesome but in reality to keep and utilize both cameras takes so much money into both systems. Shoot i run a content page for a church, agents and other jobs and often find myself using an iPhone cause its all that is needed and its easy. As i get a chance to pour into people and give them opportunities to use expensive gear that they would normally have they get to find out like i did - its not the gear its the user. (They just don't have to pour in thousands of dollars) I love the c70 its one of my favorite cameras but honestly i love a 5div on 1080P just as much. Enjoy the process and the story and make an impact, because that will last longer than any gear. (Still love the gear reviews) also your doc on Terry was fire bro love that work ik it don't pay the bills but sheesh its inspo in ways that you may never see but its real!

The biggest thing people gotta realize is...just DO and stay TRUE to what you love. Create from an honest place and just do what you love. Some people love making short films, some people love selling and pushing products, either way...that shouldn't stop people from doing what you love. Put them blinders on, and just do what YOU like to do, for you.
Yeah, I just noticed the shift so I remember what it was like before the corporations got involved. At the end of the day people can do what they want to do.
Recently yc dropped a video with cr where they had to make a video on the fly. The vibe and everything in the video was sensational, but sensational doesn't always pay the bills. Big cook said right. Every now and then give us those home cooked meals. The reason we are still around because we are very understanding but don't take our grace for granted. We appreciate yall for listening
I saw that...YC is a goat. Bro and creative Ryan have help to put thousands of dollars in my pocket. I'm not taking a dig at him or C Ryan those are my OGs when it comes to filmmaking.
New channel here I get what you’re saying just wanna share my passion and experience. It’s challenging not falling in to the corporate trap but we all need to monetize in some way. Just subscribed you’ll get that 1000 in no time 👊🏾
LMMFAO!!! IT'S TOO DAMN EARLY TO BE LAUGHING THIS HARD. Facts though. UA-cam creators are turning into commercial billboards for companies. I just said no to 3 companies because I refuse to turn my channel into a product review space. I will only talk about what I love and what I use. Intro was not over the top. It was spot on. I don't care how lone it takes my channel to grow, cause I only take youtube seriously when I'm not on sets, but I'd rather grow slow and steady sharing what I genuinely love. Life of Riza is definitely the standard for what creative channels should be in my opinion. And honest/no BS creative camera channels such as yours are how the standard should be for sure moving forward into the future.💯
Don't get me wrong. It's a space for it but it's too many channels promoting gear over the art that new content creators feel like that's the way. Now you have people whole don't even film trying to tell you what camera to buy. It's crazy.
Thumbs up man 100% agree with everything you're saying. As a UA-camr myself who makes content about camera gear and photography I try to walk a line between sharing my passion and trying to make money. It's tough sometimes because we all got bills to pay and if you want to make it on UA-cam you have to commit 100%. But I totally her what you're saying and I think your message needs to be heard.
Brother at the end of the day it's just an opinion. Make content and money the way that you want to. Just try not to sacrifice who you are in order to appease these corporations.
lol Big Cook, you made me bust a gut man. Such a great intro! btw, I ordered the 18mm f1.8 for my S9. I’ll do a video soon about my purchase but no links on my channel! Just love ❤️
Big Cook is part of the new generation content creators which I hope wont do the same mistakes as the previous, and will actually force them to do some changes!
I agree I don't watch through as much once I get the feeling it's only about selling products or services. I tried to make videos without talking about products directly . I try to demonstrate how the gear could be used and those videos barely get any views . It almost feels like I need to be pushing product not that type but , you know what I mean. Lol
The intro was gold Big Cook! As a viewer, I think the gear reviews are easier for some creators to make than to make actual content. Big respect to those out there making quality content. Yeah I get what you saying I think it’s time to get into the kitchen and be the change we want to see out with the old respectfully and in with the new stories passion and growth
You just earned a sub my dude, lol. Hilarious, and SO TRUE! These megacorps ruin everything, and its starting to seep into the content creator's space. Trust, I get the sentiment of wanting to get to the bag (ESPECIALLY with how the economy's going to crap), but the art of being a creator is slowly being phased out to make way for hypercommmercialism. Its been part of whats been holding me back from going full steam with my channel again after 2 years and falling into the youtube consumer-only pit. This might be the advice I need to get back to creating. Sending a thanks all the way from Philly, bro 🙌
FR though...🤣😂 but it’s important to recognize that part of the responsibility also lies with the viewers. Gear Acquisition Syndrome (GAS) affects both creators and their audiences. Often, viewers and subscribers are more inclined to engage with content when it involves new gear. Take, for example, the Lumix S9: despite the widespread criticism it received, many people were eager to hear the sales pitch from creators who traveled to Japan. This shows how the anticipation for new gear can drive viewer interest and engagement, contributing to the cycle of GAS.
GAS is 100% on the viewer. I just saw the switch and I remember a lot of channels before it. I'm not saying that people shouldn't promote, review, or sell stuff. I'm just saying remember why you started.

If you don't need something don't accept it, like why do you need a 5th gimbal? Just to have it on the shelf?
Yeah, I've seen filmmakers try to overcharge for gear just because they used it. I literally just shipped a lens that I gave to one of my subs for free because I don't use it. I always sell my old get for super cheap(If I don't give it away)to filmmakers that will use it because my old gear will make their day. Seeing a young content creator smile like I use to when I got a piece of gear I needed makes my day.
@@Bigcookfilms yeah the same I just sold my Weebill 2 gimbal for a fraction of the price I got it cause after using it for a while I felt it is too heavy for what I do and for the price I sold it I bought a much cheaper and even crappier one, but at least it's not that heavy.
