  • Instagram over at @ michaelallenbrooks if you want to share with me YOUR builds! This video is about my Jeep Wrangler 2 Door JL Sleeping and Storage Platform.
    I explain all the usage and basics of how I put it together with plans and photos of the process below on my blog over at lifenewandimpr... (UPDATE here are more elaborate drawings to supplement the blog listed above lifenewandimpr...)
    I couldn't find anyone else with a 2 Door JL or earlier who had built a storage and sleeping platform without taking out the passenger seat. I hope this helps you to figure out a system if that's your dream as well.

    it makes me so happy to see something like this for 2dr. i have searched high and low for someone doing this with a 2dr. it seems that youtube is overly saturated with 4dr content. badass set up man im gunna be doing one similar to my 2dr jk

      @@mikealphabravo Thanks! Recently finished building it, and it works great! Strikes a perfect balance between easy to set up, and functionality. Gonna take it around Maine before summer ends. Thanks for putting all the info for how to build it online! Saved me a good dozen hours of work.

      ugh, swoon! This makes me so happy to hear. I just filmed a follow up on how it was fairing after 2 years and it's been great. I recently sold my Wrangler sadly and now have my platform sitting in the garage and will likely give it to any JL friends in Portland.
      Thank you so much for following up! I've been wondering how the build goes for others

I am totally subscribing to your channel because I appreciate your hard work and your genius!!!!!!!! I love your "sleep-jeep"!!! I just got my Jeep last Monday so I've had it for 7 days and I love it. It's a 2 door Wrangler 2003 sport s. I am in love with it and all the cool things I can do to it.

    You could certainly sell sets if you wanted to. Looks easy enough to assemble, but for people with limited time like myself, I would certainly opt to buy. Plus, this is the only set up I have seen with all of the handy features you've presented.

    So I plan on building something similar. I was inspired by this, but took my prep one step further. I went to the junkyard and got a Jeep Patriot seat which folds flat and installed it in the passenger seat. It was a pretty easy mod and now I have 72 inches from dashboard to tailgate in a straight line. Just wanted to share.

    Outstanding video. I have been mulling options with a 2 door JK for simple camping. I don't want to lug around in a 4 door all of the time when I only occasionally camp. This concept is similar to what we used to do with the back of old vans when we wanted a bed and storage (with a limited 2 door Jeep space twist)... Build a platform with storage below and bed on top, albeit lower of course. I love 2 door Jeep content. Thanks!

    I'm thinking that if you laid the other direction you could have your head and upper back utilizing the back of the seat as an inclined rest. It would be real easy to lay a piece of foam or oversize pillow for bridging the gap and providing head comfort then you can sleep with the Jeep totally closed up.

    Hi Max. I'm so excited to have found your video! Using your blueprints and this video, I've decided to hire someone to build this out for me. I'm not sure what the costs are and what's fair for someone's labor. If you don't mind sharing, how much did this cost you to build? What would you charge to build this for some one? I live in NC and have some one interested in the gig.
    But, hey you wanna road trip out here and build mine? Lol. Jk. Kinda. I do live at the beach though.
    Anyway. Thank you so so much for sharing all of this. Huge game changer for me!

    • @mikealphabravo
      @mikealphabravo  2 роки тому

      Cost was pretty minimal since it's just some ply and 2x4's. The marine grade I used initially was too stiff, just go with the thin boat stuff that's affordable. Other lessons would be take the time to saw short the posts once all in stalled. The longer bolt threads do make it easier to take in and out seasonally but I found after a while I just started leaving it in year round. The only other thing is if someone can do more of the pieces out of metal you'll game some room back as the wood gets bulky. Also the front locked door is fine but I don't think it would keep anyone out of it really.
      Best of luck with the build and hopefully whoever tackles it can get it right. The cuts for the ply was honestly the only really hard part and I've provided those dims.

      Haven't seen anyone else doing this. If you're adventurous and have a base sport 2 dr JK with no side airbags, you can actually fold the seat. Disconnect the harness underneath the seat, remove the back with the seat out, realign the folding mechanism to fold flat. Now it's a seat or a bed. Best 2 dr sleeping mod period!

    I just found this accidentally! Wow! I’m working on acquiring a Jeep Wrangler 2 door… not sure yet on the year tho.
    I see you used wood 2x4s. I’m wondering if the galvanized metal studs would work. What are your thoughts?
    When I get my Jeep (it’s out there, somewhere), I thought about trying it. I’d make a “full” 2x4 by joining/overlapping them (the top of the U’s facing each other, if that’s clear) to make kind of box. Maybe stronger that way. And I thought of placing a piece of plywood in the space flush with one edge to make a solid stub wall along the sides and perhaps the front.
    You think that’s doable?
    You have a great build there!! Thanks for sharing it with all of us. ❤

    This is a very creative solution to the problem that us 2-door Wrangler folks have with sleeping. Most in the past have taken out the passenger seat in front, and then extended the platform to the glove box. I, like you do not want to remove the front passenger seat so that the platform can be left in place when wanting to take a passenger on board. Besides, my local dealership wants to charge $300 to take the seat out and adjust the computer to resolve the airbag issue. You obvioulsy have some good carpentry and design skills. I do not. So, how about a pay you to do the same thing for my 2-door 2016 JK? I am 5'9" so should be able to fit. Thank you for sharing this video with the JEEP community.

      Yeah it is a niche market solution but I know there are others out there like us that want this!
      I would love to do it for others but it was about a 40 hour project and currently I'm working full time. It would be pretty spendy for me to do it for another person. That said I'm pretty sure some of the drawer and storage solutions could be modified a little bit to pull off a similar concept.
      If I find myself unemployed this year I will certainly be offering to build these for folks but my carpentry skills would have to refine some on future versions to make it a viable product lol

    Just wondering why this won't work with the soft top I see nothing preventing it from working. I love this idea

      I think the side bars get in the way of the panels. I could be wrong, I'm sure plenty of folks will figure out amazing ways to make this work for each of their own cases

    Fantastic work. I was wondering if you can make it any higher so that the edges of the top boards fit snug inside the edges of the jeep ? Maybe this would hit the hardware that holds the hard top? (I have a soft top)

    • @mikealphabravo
      @mikealphabravo  5 років тому +1

      I think you could yes. What decides the height is just the inner walls. I think you could align it with the tub rails for sure.
      The factor I don't fully understand is how it would work if at all with the soft top so you'll have to get back to me on that.

      @@mikealphabravo The ST arms need to drop quite a bit to fold, unfortunately the platform is in the way. We fold back the snrf, don't drop the top. 😉

    Good job! Especially for a 2 door. What are you planning to put in your storage? Is it high enough for a sliding tray for a fridge? Has stuff gotten hung up on your screws and wing nuts while pulling in and out?

    • @mikealphabravo
      @mikealphabravo  4 роки тому

      You could likely build in a slider, but the cross members make the height a little lower. I do get things caught on the screws sometimes. I think you could cap them in rubber and be just fine. But I will say I love them cuz it literally took me under 5 minutes to uninstall this fall for winter.

      With minimal skills you can turn your JK into a 6' sleeper.. TJ and YJ are too short. My system is very simple allowing access below. A removable (light and strong) one piece shell bolted to the seat belt anchors is 24" of the bed platvorm, doubles as a trunk, great for groceries or gear.
