So nice to see an informative video that doesn't last 20 minutes, wandering around the local park taking photos and telling us what you had for dinner.
Thank you, just what I needed to know in brief as I am packing to head to South Africa. I'm taking a digital for all and the MX for some candid and street photography. All it needs is a new battery and this is how I found your UA-cam video.
One of the best Cameras ever made! As an Amateur Photographer, the Pentax MX was my intro in to film. I have a few other cameras but this will always be my everyday camera
Thanks for the info! I just picked up one of these at a thrift store for $18 bucks! Pretty dirty but it cleaned up to almost new looking! Can’t wait to try it! I’ve been shooting a Minolta XG-7 for the last several years.
My first SLR - I prefered it to the OM 1 which I was also considering at the time. I disliked the long wind on action but everything else is pretty prefect. Strongly built with none of the issues with the meter needle which is a common problem with OM's. I also happen to think the MX is a handsome smart little camera. Think of it as a K1000 Plus Plus but 1/3 smaller. Enjoy.
A great camera but be aware that spares can be very hard to find for these and other film Pentax's. Also worth mentioning is rapid wear in the film advance gearing owing to the poor quality steel used. Make sure it winds on properly before you buy. I own 2 MX's, one used as a donor for spares. Framing can be slightly inconsistent on film but I haven't had an overlap yet. This has happened on both my cameras. The 5fps motor drives are very rare but the 2fps auto winders are easier to find. A neat little feature, although unofficial, is a mirror lock up function. Simply cock the shutter and give the shutter release a soft flick with your finger. You should hear a soft click. The mirror should've locked up without firing the shutter. Then press the release again to fire the shutter. Cool!
Thanks - I never knew about the mirror lock up! I’m finding the Pentaxes to be the least durable of the cameras in my collection. None of them work properly now, so I’m going to get some of them repaired.
Beautiful camera that is sometimes overshadowed by the OM 1 - way back I chose the Pentax and never regretted my decision. I shoot Fuji now as it’s the nearest to a ‘film’ experience 😎👍
@@threeminutepro - YES - I've used the Olympus system quite a bit - favs were the Pen F and the OM D 5 mk2 - 75 F1.8 & 12 F2 are fantastic glass as well as the humble 45 1.8
Superb camera and foolishly sold it ... What I held on to fortunately was the love of Pentax and their long term thinking. My set of correction lenses still fit and now I am about -3.5 dioptre correction lenses for the shortsighted I can still look through My K1 and see the full view. K lens mount means I can use My full frame film lenses. see 28 mm F lens control of light. 30 years and counting. You could even put it on the MX.
Hi!! So I'm shooting my first ever roll of film on this and I'm having a bit of trouble with the take up spool - the first couple of photos were taken just perfect and the take up spool spinned every time, but after a while it stopped spinning despite the film seeming to be inserted correctly (the counter on top that numbers the pics was going correctly and I believe the film had wound up enough to not get loose inside the cam). Could it be okay?
Hi Greetings!! Hope you are doing well I was looking for a used 35mm film camera. luckily found a MX nearby but with a mirror stuck issue in only few shutter speeds. The deal we finally settled on is 7,500 rupees(= ~ $102 usd) with the lens smc 50mm f1.4. wanted to check with someone, whether the issue is a deal breaker..if we need fix it how much does it going to cost me? thanks in advance

Lol, this made me chuckle. You are so right, this video says it all in 3 minutes.

It was beautifully designed, wasn’t it? I had one for ten years

It’s a wonderful camera, and there are plenty of second hand lenses for it
You'll get a good camera. I brought mine in 1979. It still works. Love the LED exposure meter.
The Pentax MX is an wonderful camera. I love my Pentax MX. Thanks for the Video.
Welcome! Glad it was useful 😄

I used one for years. Real beauty
I just received mine today! So happy to finally own it, it is a beautiful machine.
One of my favourite cameras!
Wonderful review! Informative and straight to the point. 👌
Thank you 😄
This is so straight forward! On point!
Thank you 😄
Thx for this brief introduction to this wonderful camera. I just bought one on ebay - your video is perfect for me! :-)
Glad it was useful! It’s a wonderful piece of kit
Cheers mate. My dad's just given me his MX and I know next to nothing about cameras, so this is a great intro.
Glad it was useful 😄

Concise and to the point! Thank you very much!

I find the same with the Olympus M4/3

You may have accidentally pushed the rewind clutch button on the bottom of the camera. If that’s not the case, then best to get the camera serviced.
I think this is the smallest 35mm SLR, yes? Even smaller than Olympus OM series.
Andre Tampubolon At the time it was released it was the smallest. I think Cosina brought something out a little later that was more compact
I've got both an MX and an ME Super. Arguably the ME is smaller - it's taller but less wide - but there not much in it.
A question: does the metering tend to work properly for these cameras after so many years ? And they are not fixable right ?
Download a lightmeter app to your phone and compare the readings 😄
Interested to know your thoughts on the Pentax LX!
Not used one. Apparently they’re very sturdy
Thank you! This is a great video
Welcome. Glad it was useful 😄
Excellent video.
Thank you 😄

There are plenty of other options available. I love the Pentax Program A personally
Will the light meter work without battery? Also how reliable is it?
Not much functionality without a battery. I think you have one mechanical speed and no light meter
@@threeminutepro Strange, cause I heard how it's supposed to work "without a battery"
@@MultiSciGeek My bad! I was confusing it with the ME Super. It does indeed work without batteries. You just wouldn't have a light meter
@@threeminutepro Thanks for clarifying
as a beginner should I buy it iam getting it for 100$?
Definitely! Really easy to use pro camera, small and compact
can someone do a video or educate me how to properly focus the mx when i see in the view finder. appreciate any help.
Line up the two halves in the split image, and make sure the fresnel isn’t crinkly, and you should be fine
This camera deserves more than three minutes......
Agree. It’s a beauty
I'm still using it
Lovely piece of kit
Just bought 2 of these for £30.
Bargain! Fabulous piece of kit
This guy sounds like Brick Top from snatch!....Listen to what he says, or he'll feed ya ta tha bloody pigs!

Who else came here cause you wanted to look at what camera Jonathan used from stranger things?
Haha! Yes, I spotted that when I watched the series 😄
