Fascinating, love the practice of passing down the music face to face. Gosh, that adds a whole other level of importance to each song for each player. Song versions nuances, as taught through the generations, what a super way to preserve the purity of the music.
This is awesome... im on the big island. I believe i made a comment on one of your older videos that you should learn Hawaiian Slack key. I can imagine what you would do with it.
So, nobody listened to them? Or the listeners were duh? Please, the moment they play, anybody can HEAR their "secret" tuning. Sure you got the how-would-they-do-dat-effect. Like tuning down the B string a bit, because equal temperament is a compromise and you hear that, from the day you start listening.
Ever since hearing about Joni Mitchell tuning her guitar to her surroundings I find this kinda thing fascinating for the seemingly limitless possibilities that the acoustic guitar has over any other instrument
Using only the thumb and index finger is common in Slack Key and shouldn't be construed as entry-level, as some music is simply easier to play with that technique.
Lovely guitars, if you've got about $9,000 dollars lying about that you're not planning to use for anything important. Like food. Or clothes. Or houses.
@@MichaelWatts Are you serious? You are saying a concert grade cello bow is $90,000? You would have to be as stupid as f*ck to pay that. Perhaps you are stupidly rich.
Beautiful playing, and fantastic sounding guitars! Slack Key lets the full resonance of the instrument blossom.
Thank you very much and yes, that was absolutely my experience

That sustain!
It’s very cool…
Do they got those guitars with 12 strings, also? These ones are absolutely missing 6 extra magic sound strings. And they are great already!

Calling your daughter Yoni is cruel.

It looks as if this was filmed in Steve Grimes guitar shop…?
That’s right!

Which is about one tenth of what you’d pay for a concert grade cello bow. It’s all relative.
