I told myself that the town was an easy 10 minute cycle from the port, based on my experiences cycling through but as soon as I checked my map getting off the ferry I realised what a journey I had! Luckily it was flat for the most part but cycling alongside lorries and fast moving traffic for several miles was quite intimidating. Once I reached town I filled my stomach and pushed on to De Panne. Good times!
When I got off the ferry at Dunkirk I rode with the lorries as far as Loon Plage. From there is a cycle path which runs along the D601 into town and is mostly lorry free.
Hey! Just seen your video. How are you ? I’m planning to do a personal challenge next year and looking to get in contact with people who has done cycling around France
Hey! Thanks for the comment. I only did a short journey in France between Dunkirk and the Belgian border but the bike lanes, both painted on-road and separate paths in that area were good. Only part without any really was initially leaving the port.
@@pinderclips5642 HEy sorry for the late replay, amazing to know that. I want to cycle all the way to France, doing a lot of planning about it. couple of questions: When you get to France is it easy way to get out of the port ?
Just need to follow the signs for exit, I followed the D940 and then some bike lanes on the D601 into Dunkirk. It's only a short distance to get on to some quieter roads once leaving the port

Thanks for the video! I'm cycling it solo soon so it's great to see the route and process! 👌🏼
Ahh, the excitement of coming off the ferry with the whole of Europe ahead of you to explore!
It's a great feeling at the start, at least for me, of an adventure.
Unimpressed by how the poor quality French cycle lane leaving the harbour just gives up when the road gets really busy!
