    Notification Squad: The pain I went through to make sure this video released today! First I was up all night editing the first half and then woke up today to get straight back to editing this. After a load of exporting issues with the video editing software, I drove from building to building in town trying to find a place that has wifi lol But anyways! Hope you enjoyed the video and try not to miss your ferry like I did so many times.

    Mate what do you need in terms of your vehicle, do you need an special insurance to drive in France? Driving licence anything else?

    • @heytravelfam5476
      @heytravelfam5476  Рік тому +1

      Hey dude! Not too much actually if you're coming from the UK: Driving license is totally fine if you have a full one from the UK. If not, might have to see about getting an 'international license'.
      With insurances: call your car insurance company or find out online if they cover for going through EU countries. I think most car insurances will give you a standard 3rd party cover when you drive abroad. In this case, you don't need to notify them at all. if you want full comprehensive cover for when you go abroad in this scenario, then you'd have to call them and (maybe) pay a small premium fee for the days you go abroad. This was the case with my car insurance at the time of this video, More Than Smart Wheels (awful company, try and stay away lol). It's not required, just for your own peace of mind.
      If your car insurance doesn't allow you to drive abroad, then maybe and i'm not sure, you can get an insurance from another company temporarily that covers this kind of thing. Though I'm not sure! and do check that your UK insurance is fine with you having another car insurance covering for trips abroad :)
      What you do need is to make sure your car has some things that are required depending on the country, such as a warning triangle, high visibility vest, first aid kits. There are charts somewhere online showing you what country needs what. Most common is a first aid kit and you can just have these items in your trunk. Can totally find some cheap kits on amazon from the AA.
      Other than that, make sure you have your car's documents with you, if you're going in snowy conditions then check you have the right tires as it's part of the law in Germany at least, have a UK sticker on your bumper (GB is no longer valid according to the law but.... I see just about everyone getting away with a GB sticker).

    That’s funny, I live in cologne and will take the ferry to the UK soon. So I will take the same way like you. I hope I will not miss my ferry. 😅😂

    Never knew you needed headlight reflectors

    • @heytravelfam5476
      @heytravelfam5476  Рік тому +1

      Me neither until we went on this trip! Pretty interesting since cars in the U.K. drive on the left side of the road, their headlights are designed to point away from the right side, oncoming cars. So this is incompatible when you drive somewhere where oncoming cars come from the left instead.😄

      @@heytravelfam5476 So if i drive a Belgian car, and i want to travel to the UK I don't need these stickers? Because mine point straight forward

    • @stephenvalente3296
      @stephenvalente3296 Місяць тому

      You've always needed them, and it's said their mandatory to be fitted. That said, I went for the first time in 15 years this August and put them on, but given the extended daylight hours, it was never dark enough to need them. Given they're about £4-£5 a set, I didn't bother fitting them later in the month to save the money/set I got to replace them for another trip.

    I have a driver license from Texas, in the U.S. , will UK car rental companies accept that or i need an international driver license?

    Does anyone know if you can take a British Rental car to France on the ferry. Thanks

    • @heytravelfam5476
      @heytravelfam5476  Рік тому

      It all depends on your rental company. I know that some rental companies don't allow you to take their vehicle abroad. Definitely will find out in their terms and conditions. Hope that helps! :)

      Given P&O charge £15 for a rather lack lustre pizza, I always eat in France for lunch, and it's better to get a decent sandwich at the DFDS building in town on the way back. That said, the best way is to buy a nice baguette, some cheese, ham, etc. in a local hypermarket whilst there for the return trip.
      Used to get a half decent cooked breakfast years ago, but it's all pre-prepped, overpriced stuff in the basically unmanned effectively main cafes now.

    This shows 2 different ferries from Dover - Calais and 1 from Dunkerque to Dover. Title and videos a bit misleading.

    only a couple of mistakes ,,,like uk duty free is way to expensive ,,,and secondly if you are traveling to northern France or Germany ,then always use dfds ferries and go via Dunkirk as it saves at least 40 minutes driving time and dfds ferries allow you to use a feery either side of your booked time

    • @heytravelfam5476
      @heytravelfam5476  2 роки тому

      These are really good tips to keep in mind. The prices on the boat itself are no joke! Also the ferry to Dunkirk is something I completely forgot to mention if you plan on driving east. Heck, I only discovered this on my 2nd time going over to the mainland

    Hello brother i just need to know that we can travel uk to france by farrie if we have just uk visit visa

    • @heytravelfam5476
      @heytravelfam5476  Рік тому

      That is something I don't know unfortunately. Gov.uk might have the solution there and I hope you find your answer
      If I were to take a guess, I think you cannot travel to France by ferry just off of the UK visit visa.

    How much time does it take from Dover port to calais? What is cost of travel? Can we take our vehicle? Is Eurostars from st Pancranas international to Charles de Gaulle much cheaper and faster?

    • @Tamervlogz
      @Tamervlogz Рік тому

      2h which is wierd as its 20miles and its usually cheap average i say is 100 to 200 pounds with a car, and eurostar is more cheaper and faster but verry is better as u can tyake a pgoto of the sea

      Indeed you’re right! Funnily enough I got the AA EU kit on Amazon that has the legal essentials for driving in some countries. It advertised itself to contain the U.K. sticker. When it arrived, it was the GB sticker! Fortunately they gave me a refund
