I met this great man a few years ago at Cheltenham Lit Fest, interviewed by James Holland, once he,d been asked a question you couldn’t shut him up, he was so full of energy. I shook his hand afterwards. Everyone in the audience stood and applauded him at the end. It was a pleasure to meet the great man
Thank you for leaving such a lovely comment John. We love to hear from those who have also been lucky enough to meet George 'Johnny' Johnson. Everyone who meets him has always said how lovely he is - a true gentleman.
December 7th 2022 All of 617 Sqn are now all back together once more. Rest In Peace Sqn Ldr Jonny Johnson. Stand Down Your Duty is Done. We Salute You and Thank You for your Duty.
We are so sorry to hear about the passing of Sqn Ldr George Johnny Johnson. He was a truly remarkable man & was always extremely humble about being one of the infamous Dambusters. Will treasure the moment when we interviewed both him and Mary Stopes-Roe, the daughter of Sir Barnes Wallis, for an event in Howden to celebrate one of the Dambusters' milestone anniversaries. We will be forever grateful to the airmen of the infamous 617 Squadron aka The Dambusters & for all those who lived and died to ensure we could have our freedom #restinpeace #RIP #Dambusters

All our bomber crews were brave, selfless guys. But if this trip could have been avoided, it would have saved a great waste of life, for very little gain

Brave men, but some of Johnny's stories were a bit of a stretch, reinforcing that ones memory of an event is the last time one told it.
AHH, we don't breed em like this anymore!, These Chaps are up there with the likes of Nelson, Wellington, Bader and all .....
