This was a heartbreaking video to watch but one that will stick with me for a long time due to the unbelievable bravery shown by Sgt John Chapman. I honestly never witnessed footage like that in my life. It is harrowing but something everyone should see to honour this great man. I give my full respect to anybody serving or that has served before.

My friends brother was a medic in Iraq and won some sort of medal for protecting a squad of his teammates. It was him against multiple people in a situation like this. A true hero.
Unfortunately last year he took his own life. He had a wife and kids. Freedom is not free. People who criticize the armed forces don't understand. It's not that their mission is always just or right, it's the fact that they give up their lives so we can live ours. Thank you for your service.

I'm confused, I thought he kept fighting so they could get away. What took them so long to leave? (This is not a criticism, merely a question because it seems like they had plenty of time to leave.)

To be fair.... Not really fighting for our lives in that war but his intention when he signed up was for exactly that but let's not pretend that the Afghanistan War was fighting for our lives. I only have the utmost respect for soldiers but I'm not gonna pretend that the Afghanistan War was fighting for my life.

Before the footage, you see the team was in the air in their helicopter went they were hit by rocket fire.
The SEAL team member Neil Roberts was blown from the helicopter.
They had no choice but to make an emergency landing on another summit.
Once they acquired another helicopter they went back for him. Roberts for a time was calling them on his radio telling them that he was alive.

You can read every Medal of Honor citation to be given online. More than half of the Medals of Honor given since 1941 have been given posthumously. Each citation demonstrates a complete disregard for the recipients own safety in order to save the lives of their own comrades. One of the common examples is willingly jumping on a grenade to save the people around you.

All of that to recover a dead soldier! No man left behind. Unfortunately there was some investigations how this went down. Although he was one of the ones that came back to rescue Chapman later and got a medal of honor himself.

I know we Americans can come across as cocky, douchy, and disrespectful know it alls to some foreigners and as someone who has been stationed in other countries, I have seen the disrespect some foreigners show our military, most don't, but some do.
A lot of foreigners talk down about how bad Americans are and how fat and dumb we are and how we are so inferior to their country.
I am a proud American who served my country's military, we take an oath to defend freedom and democracy around the world. Our men and women are the first to answer the call and deploy into harms way, why? so you don't have to. Much respect to those who served, whether in the U.S. or foreign military.
