“She makes my heart beat the same way as at the start of Blue Monday.” Nice!
When played live, they sometimes do a cover of the intro of Blue Monday at this point. Do a search on here, there's a few live versions knocking about. Well worth the digging.
"Next to the poster of Morrissey with a bunch of flowers"
Class... ;)
The first time I heard this I was almost in tears; It brought back every happy memory of growing up, and going out with friends in Newcastle!
How come Neil Hannon is not a World Celebrity Now? Everyone should share. This is exactly how pop rock should be written and done. So much for the waste out there, this is how you write and sing a pop song. You make people happy with a story.
Love this band. Songs usually take a few listens to like but once with the comedy is enough. So very underated.
A beautiful song that us old 'uns can relate to.
inserted blue Monday into this tune also! divine 👍
Speaking of Divine ;) That riff, which New Order heard whilst trawling the gay clubs in The States. Bobby O was/is a legend of the Hi-NRG sound. ua-cam.com/video/XdpnTQ_BxEc/v-deo.html
What a lovely song! The ascending chord run, spare beat, strings, Neil has, once again, come up with the perfect pop song.
Nobody quite like DC. Hannon's originality always welcome breath of fresh air-love the stuff he writes.
3.20 of pure perfection… No wonder the producers of Wonka sought out Neil for new original songs for that wonderful film!
The lyrics are just so spot on of a typical indie fan. Always make me smile.
Every time I hear this I'm powerfully reminded of Thursday night's out for 'alternative nights'
One of the most underated bands of all time, everyone in their thirties can relate to this song. Pure Class !
Ha 14 years ago when you left this comment I could relate to the song because I was actually going to the indie disco every Thursday night. Now I'm 34 and I relate to the intense bittersweet nostalgia. Hope life is treating you well.
The boy never fails to deliver!
The violins remind me of "this must be the place" by the talking heads!
Reminds me of Zhivagos in 1984. Thursday was U18 nite.
Happy days...
Respect for including a Sheep On Drugs vinyl cover in the video clip
Give us some Pixies and some Roses and some Wannadies!
Gramophone turntables - love it. Great writer.
Saw this performed live in the MAC Belfast as I was serving behind the bar. Unreal.
these guys have got "je ne sais quoi" or "níl fhois agam cad"!!!! love neil hannons...he is a character!
What a tune. Neil the great
Cathy Davey's harmony vocals are awesome.
underrated band
Yes! Indeed it is :-)
Cathy is also featured on a couple of other tracks on "Bang Goes The Knighthood"
DCHQ x
Such an underrated and brilliant track. Love it 😊
This is so good! You're such a fantastic writer!
I only just heard of them. I live in Seattle. They're great! You're right!
@@shiftlessinseattle he's been going since the early nineties? ... just rediscovered him as I lost track in late nineties! Amazing treasure trove of albums. Touring again in 2019.😎
@@musicloverUK going to see him in Belfast in October. 3rd time seeing them live 👍🎶
And this is just one of dozens.....most of which are better than this.

Oh this song reminds me of everything that is good in life. If I could pick a song to live in, this would be the one. Love.

Thank you for this wonderful song.
it feels like... at the indie disco! :)
This is pretty much a perfect description of my favourite "indie disco" night I used to go to every week when I was in college. The songs and everything.
Listening to you makes me feel happy.
this song makes me want to dance ah i love it
Awesome new song. Can't wait for more :) Wish they were coming to the East of England tho... its always London dangit...
Love Neil's dance moves!
I agree, lyrically Neil Hanlon's genius!
great song
Wonderful song 🎶💓Hey! There is 'Casanova' 😏💘🎼
We go down to the indie disco every Thursday night
Dance to our favourite indie hits until the morning light
At the indie disco
The indie disco
At the indie disco, yeah
We've got a table in the corner that is always ours
Under the poster of Morrissey with a bunch of flowers
We drink and talk 'bout stupid stuff
Then hit the floor for Tainted Love
You know I just can't get enough
Of the indie disco
The indie disco
At the indie disco, yeah
Give us some Pixies and some Roses and some Valentines
Give us some Blur and some Cure and some Wannadies
And now we're moving to the beat
And staring at each other's feet
I wonder if she fancies me, yeah
At the indie disco
The indie disco
At the indie disco, yeah
And when it's over and I'm freezing on the night-bus home
I think of her and I sing the words to my favourite song, oh yeah
She makes my heart beat the same way
As at the start of Blue Monday
Always the last song that they play
At the indie disco
The indie disco
At the indie disco
Yeah-yeah-yeah-yeah, yeah-yeah-yeah, aha
At the indie disco
The indie disco
At the indie disco, yeah
My new happy-beat! :)
finding out Cathy Davey does the harmony just makes it better!
Back in the 90s when almost every club had a queue of chavs a block long, lining up for their house, garage and trance, it was almost impossible to find somewhere that played 100% indie, Britpop, even though it dominated the charts and live music venues.
indie anthem!
just seen these at a gig absolutely divine 👍
CAN'T WAIT FOR BANG GOES THE KNIGHTHOOD!
It's going to be the most awesome CD of the year. For sure!
love it...real summer vibe.....
love it
Divine little song
Song is brilliant. I was dancing in my seat. Then the strings hit and I thought, "heeeeeeeell yeaahhhhhhhhh" So glad to have him back.
@dandruf1 yea, doyles on the corner of d'olier street, near college green.big purple building.its not tecnically a DISCO....its a student pub, but they've a tiny dancefloor and dj upstairs in the lounge. the place is small and shabby but thats exactly why i love it. i've had some great great nights in there for years now. the academy on abbey street is an indie club, the workmans club, the button factory....there's loads of indie places in town
loved every moment of it
Whale jams.HUGE!!!
Divine's Comedy brand new album is really great.

Superb!
Good tune this with great vid. I was looking at the records and expected one by the Divine Comedy...
Good one!
Listening to this I started to shoegaze for the first time since the early 90ies.
Don't worry guys...I see the future........................................be bop!!!!
Amo muito!
the man is pure class
YAY! Can't wait for the album.
@madamewoselle I think it's set up like it would be a fairly sharp comic song, but it really just turns out to be 'Weren't the early 90s lovely?' The DJ bit made me laugh though, I knew guys who would have done that without any sense of irony. I was probably one of them.
Always makes me smile : )
This reminds me of the Limelight in Belfast
Yessss! Was thinking the same! Reminds me of Cuckoo's too :)
Ha! the bouncer there works with me in the Housing Exective
you were outstanding at Hull
Really great!
I bet he went to the coolest indie disco around haha
At our Indie Disco, the last song played was always 'Dancing Queen' by ABBA!
Es la descripción perfecta de una etapa de mi vida, amo esta canción
I bet Neil Hannon is a really down to earth genuine guy. I'd love to meet him.
loving the way the music video is done almost like a comic book.
basically this song describes my life and in particular every single night i've ever spent in doyles on d'olier street.love that place!
She makes my heart beat the same way, as at the start of Blue Monday love it
