If there was ever a song that deserved a greater transcendence
I’ve said it many times before, and will repeat it to anyone who cares to listen: Neil Hannon is a genius.
It's a shame I discovered him completely accidentally. How come I have never heard of this man before
No statement is more true.
Your own personal genius.
I'm glad this exists on UA-cam because I'm too drunk to put in the record
The algorithm never got me here! someone told me now I am addicted to the Divine, that's a comedy in itself
Every song on this album is an absolute banger, I just wish they would release all the deluxe tracks on vinyl.
The animation 'Infernal Machines' is evocative of 1927's 'Metropolis' or Chaplin's 'Modern Times' factory sequence and 'You'll never Work In This Town' animation and music is like something from a sixties crime caper movie. All totally brilliantly put together.
Mad Men.
Exactly
Yes- in spades!
Someone mentioned Depeche but there’s also some yello in here somewhere. One of my favourite things about the Divine is the madness. You can’t beat talented madness.
Lyrics are brutal. Video is awesome. Divine Comedy are simply the best!! Two songs in one...😊
+
?.
Another one of those rare ad’s that didn’t get skipped...
Neil perfectly evokes the mood required: here 1. Quietly but relentlessly menacing 2. Whistful/remiscent of sound from a time passed. Hope we hear these at the gig next week. 👍
Instantly familiar. Have just heard this for the first time, I think? I feel like I've always known it. It's like a favourite old pair of comfortable shoes.
Let this sweet music wash over your soul. This song is on my playlist for 2019, more on my UA-cam channel.
Personal Jesus in the intro...
A stunning video clip. A work of art, both musically and graphically. Who would've thought that the world would become a strange and empty place?
Masterpiece
There's something very alluring about the animation style, love it
Genius isn't it. Like the credits to Mad Men. It's done on Adobe After Effects.
Your life dictated by that crazy algorithm, indeed! Great music, wonderfully observed and intelligently delivered with humor and class. These guys are on point!
It's just him! Just the great Neil Hannon :) his work is the perfect mix of humour (Queuejumper) and witty but deep lyrics (this song). Plus Ive rarely seen a project with so many elements of different genres (baroque pop, bossa nova, rock, jazz). This bloke is truly good.
I’m gonna say a few things now ? Been a fan for many years this song video reminds me of a bit of metropolis? Some of the lamb from genesis ? And a modern prog rock song !! I’m amazed wonderful bless u Neil x
Love this. Bit of Saul Bass. I live in an alternative universe however, where Neil Hannon gets to write and perform a James Bond opening theme!
....and perform James Bond as well
Very Scott Walker/John Barry strings and a walloping Mode-esque groove. An awesome return for the Comedy
I adore albums that tell a story
Absolute thumper. Woof woof! Golden delicious frappishness
The Depeche Comedy :-)
jajadini haha, very much so.....
Lol when I first heard the song I really expected to hear Dave Gahan at some point, even just in the backing vocals 😀
ha ha ha right mate
both Depeche and a ittle bit of Muse circa Uprising.
all missing the point and talking about bands rather than what it is about
Heard this for the first time today and have to say it's bloody awesome love it
why did this not show in my subscription feed?
what a great album! eclectic, quirky and smart! you may not like all of it but definitely come to appreciate it more over the time, as it's great hypnotic whirl takes you in for a ride through songs like this (infernal machines) and then "norman and norma" or "when the working day is done" or "amazon pirates" and "parley"
Really hit home when the algorithm suggested me this song :(
My kind of comedy.
Beautifully foreboding Sword of Damocles at 4:08
Mathieu Persan! Bang on! I knew this illustrative style rang a bell
I could definitely imagine Alison Goldfrapp singing this!
You are so right
She has a stricter machine....
@@WilliamBarker Very good!😄
I like it! Thank you, Divine Comedy! It makes me feel good. No matter it sounds like X or Y for others. For me it sounds PERFECT!
Congratulations Neil Hannon on this fantastic highlight from the wonderful Office Politics album. You just get better and better!!
John Pick Better and better!!! What an idiot.
Each of his albums is a masterpiece....
This is just absurdly brilliant
It's a potential classic Mike 😀👌
What a good song!
Happy 30th anniversary Divine Comedy 👍
love how at first the record is 'infernal machines' then changes to 'if i had a hammer'! this video is full of cool little details
I never thought someone would notice it ;-) well done !
@@mathieupersan9567 What an amazing video! Bravo 👏😊
Me too. Let this sweet music wash over your soul. This song is on my playlist for 2019, more on my UA-cam channel.

“Mad Men”
Нил Ханнон - генияльный артист;
МОЛОДЕЦ !
Holy fuckstick! This music is obscenely delicious. I've been revisiting The League of Gentlemen ( and Psychoville) and realising how much the soundtracks grab me....only by chance did I read a comment here on YT by someone mentioning Joby was in a band known as 'The Divine Comedy' ( fantastic name) which led me here. How late to the party I am.. O.o . Still a bloody good party, though.
Your name
But also yes it's absolutely amazing
See you in Portugal soon! 🙌
Hallucinatoire !!!
Fantastic and original double video! Love it!
I'm amazed how easily Neil can write a song that could be the Doors, > You’ll Never Work In This Town Again :)
Yes...DOORS!!!....i always asked myself: "Where dit i heard that kind of music?" Your right, it sounds a bit of the Doors. But on the other hand, its not dark enough for the Doors.
Definetly it's an "american 60's, playing as a british soap, special brasilian, swing, thing".
Everytime when i hear it, it makes my shoulders move 😁
What an absolute joy! Excellent.
How has this only got 1, 000 and odd views, 😮it’s amazing
Maybe too clever ?....
Paco de Ranaldo yes I think so !
my favorite voice💕
Some strong Doctor Who / Kraftwerk vibes going on here...
Far better
Furious!
Just Divine.🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧
also some "the real tuesday weld" thrown in for good measure - art deco blues
This is simply FAB
Genius.

The Devine video
Absolument GÉNIAL.!

I was actually really hoping you’d release infernal machines as a single! I really think it can be a hit on both sides of the pond!

And impressive music, production....concept.....

Divine as usual!

When the going gets tough, Neil gets going! Nonetheless, brilliant as always!

Divine Goldfrapp!

My brain automatically merges this with Tame Impala's Elephant
I love it!
Amazing. Can't wait for the Manchester show in a few weeks ❤
Flip. Didn't realise that was happening. I haven't seen them live for years.
Big up Ned Ludd

Nice work! By the way, the video and song brought to mind Charlie Chaplin's Modern Times movie.
Let this sweet music wash over your soul. This song is on my playlist for 2019, more on my UA-cam channel.

🔥
That crazy algorithm has you in its sway….
bravo pour l’animation ! Je me trompe ou il y a des orchestrations que Depeche Mode n’aurait pas reniées ?! Blasphème !
Dépêche Mode inspired ! I like it !
Actually reminded me of Goldfrapp...

Neil is so authentic and multilayered, sofisticated and inspured by so many different styles, genres and vibes...Depeshe is only a fragment...

When DC meets DM ..personal jesus
I for one welcome the coming robot apocalypse!

How to effectively make people listen 2 of your songs instead of one.
❤❤❤❤🙄💚
following ''Editors - Eat Raw Meat = Blood Drool'' on my private set list (both sound and video)
I don't want a life of ease.
Muse meets Depeche mode
