The main use for the raspberry pi and the URIxB cable is to link them together using the mygmrs network with the linking bundles they sell. They also sell a RT97S to DMK URIxB custom cable and a SD card with pre-configured software. Pretty cool, because the original RT97 didn't have the DB9 port. I think it can also be used with an ID-O-Matic.
Although Sec. 95.1787 allocates for digital transmission on GMRS, arguably the greatest constraint is, (2) Digital data transmissions must not exceed one second in duration. Essentially, the purpose is provide a location.
I have a R97S and am using it with an external controller. I notice some strange behavior in the BUSY signal. It goes low when a carrier is detected, then goes high as soon as the PTT is keyed by the controller, even though the carrier is still present at the receiver. Have you seen this as well?
@@IMSAIGuy Found a grungy work around. Do not assert PTT when BUSYis asserted by the repeater, only when the controller wants to send something, like an ID, etc. Not sure what that does to the audio path.

It may be used for automated messages about the repeater. Maybe weather, repeater name, etc?
Not sure of the legal side but you could easily add a device with Zello. Those use to be called a DB9 / Serial port.

Spurious emissions ??? Your spec an goes to 1.3G right? Can it be programmed for the 70cm band?
Internal duplexer is made for GMRS so you have to get past that hurdle.
would be nice if it was like 5-10-20w out.
not liking a 9 pin connector for mic,,why not use a standard kike on mobile equipment and a mic connector for power,not liking that either
