I have a Mitsubishi Outlander GT and I can tell people from owning my Outlander for over a year that it's the best vehicle I have owned to date. I have taken mine off road multiple times at Joshua Tree, rocky mountain path, and much more. Plus long 8 hour road trips all over and this vehicle starts up like it was nothing. The new refined seats are really comfortable with more soft touch. I highly recommend anyone to buy a Mitsubishi because they will last a very long time and have a excellent warranty to match.
Probably getting one of these soon. I rather love the way it looks over the newer design SUV's like RAV4(ugh) and CRV. It is angular and fairly clean styling and looks awesome in Blue or Black with the black wheel option. I am also not a fan of all these new tiny displacement engines with gasoline direct injection and worse..adding a turbo. Engines with direct injection are WELL known to have issues with valves getting gummed up around 80k-100k miles, or so. Means they require extra maintenance every 20-30k if you want to keep them running optimally, or else performance suffers. This "old" Outlander Sport uses reliable Port injection with no valve carboning issues and no turbos stressing a tiny engine like the new Honda CRVs with their oil dilution issues. Also the price is right on these...22k for a brand new 2.4L & AWD one with heated seats ...and comes in 7-8k cheaper than a fricken base RAV4.
@MrThePrivateer You know how many cars not even 30 years ago had less than 74 hp, quite alot I assure you. After 6 months of having a used one, theyre a great value for the $. $7600 total for a 2014 with only 45k miles was my out the door costs. Insurance cheap, cost to own cheap, cost to maintain cheap. Any big folks looking at this vehicle it's a decent choice. I'm a large man and I have plenty of room I can even wear my ball cap. I have the front seat pushed all the way back but there's still leg room in the second row. I'm retired and I don't drive much so this vehicle is perfect plus it has decent get up and go also good mileage. I like the way it sits up higher than most cars and it's easy to get in and out of.
I find more and more when watching UA-cam car reviews that the more "features" the car doesn't have, the more I like it. (That's assuming I'm also not being charged for those things, of course). Saying a vehicle is "like a 1990s car" is not necessarily a bad thing to me and to many other people. We don't all need or want fancy "infotainment systems" and "soft touch" dashboards that you never touch while driving anyway. For $20K with a great warranty and a 0-60 time about 20 seconds faster than an old VW Beetle, this thing sounds pretty decent to me.
Mitsubishi has no reports of high oil consumption. Overall reports of problems are very low. There aren't even any CVT failure reports. This is a big factor.
@@yourmanzach2307 Mitsubishi, like Subaru has a long history of off road rally racing and have owned the Dakar rally. This translates into engineering know how. On their CUV's like the Outlander Sport for example, you have 8.5 inches of ground clearance and all the parts are tucked up tight out of harms way. In addition, you can select between modes 2wd, 4wd auto and 4wd lock With 4 wheel lock, 50% of the power is directed to the rear wheels. for offroad, sand or mud. 4 wheel auto the car uses traction and conditions to determine the ratio of front to rear power distribution. This is good for icy roads and snow. Most of the competition in this class don't share this ability.
The interior needs a major overhaul, I own the 2013 version, and this aint much different on the interior. What I do like about it though, is the ground clearance at 8.5" which is nice. And the AWD system works nice, with a AWD lock mode. But yeah, the seats are very uncomfortable for long rides, and even in this 2019 model the interior materials are super cheap
Drove it, a lot, manual. Takes off at the light, it can hit nice cruising speeds on the highway. Reliable, built in Normal, IL. It handles a lot better on the after market premium rubbers.
I had one I'm from the UK and here it's called the asx and it came with a 1.6 litre 16v with 117hp and Manuel 5 speed gearbox it does 60 in 11.5 seconds and with front wheel drive only unless you got it with the 2.2 litre diesel with CVT gearbox and it wasn't much quicker
It’s been around for ages though it looks better than it did. Was the basis for the old Jeep Patriot. The only reason i would buy one would be price and warranty
That's why we have the Honda Accord Sport, Toyota Camry sport, Subaru Outback Sport.....it's every company that just throws the word sport in everything even though in the past and now it has no part in being a sport vehicle with front wheel drive, 2.0 or 1.8 liter engine, and just the same basic vehicle as their counterparts...i think it's such a joke and a waste of money when people buy a Honda accord sport or something like that because all they do is just raise the torque a bit but leave the hp the same and now people can take off faster but with less hp. I think the sport in this Mitsubishi comes from the fact that it can go off road, has different driving modes, and handle more than the avenge Toyota rav4 which itself is just a Corolla that just sits higher and that's all.
Ray A I agree with you, however, the new Accord sport has the optional 2.0t and that’s quite quick. The previous gen Accord sport only had the 2.4 with less than 200hp and a crappy CVT. But pretty much everything is spot on that you’ve said.
A ralliart trim level would be nice, 2.0L tubo, the one that was in the lancer or the 3.0 v6 that is in the bigger outlander with a torque converted automatic.
I'd say more like they are very "basic" vehicles which, to some could be a very good thing. Not everyone wants a lot of complexity in a new car. These are very reminiscent of the 2007 through 2013 Suzuki SX4's.

No of course it's not sporty. If you think it is or if you even hoped it might be then you don't know what sporty means. It's good at being a reasonable car but that's it.
Mitsubishi should really invest a little more in their interiors. This interior trim level should be called "Depression". Being an inexpensive vehicle really isn't a valid excuse and Kia/Hyundai have proven this.
Mitsubishi tends allocate money towards the drive train vs ammenities. Its why their prices are usually more competitive and theyre reliable. Ive seen alot of 20 year old Mitsus on the road with faded paint and trashed interiors lol, but hey, still running.
magnuscat I actually got a Lyft in one of these since making my earlier comment...I stand by my opinion that their interior quality is holding them back in the North American market HOWEVER, I actually didn't find any other fault with the vehicle. Unsure if it's a direct competitor but found the ride better than the previous gen RAV4's I have been in. I'm a fan of Toyota but HOW that vehicle sold as well as it did blows my mind!
@@hippiebits2071 Brand name recognition goes real far. Toyota, Honda, Nissan will always be king in the states. @@gregr2784 yes, that's huge. That's another reason we're looking at it. When I bought my Elantra I chose the one built at the Ulsan factory in Korea and not one made in The US.
Too bad this platform hasn't been updated in so long. The Outlander Sport is the perfect size for city driving with enough interior space. I like the more 'simple' aspect. Don't need push button or power liftgate ....
Don't drive this car like he does when he's testing the acceleration or you will toast that CVT in no time. Yeah you could get it replaced under warranty but that is such a hassle to go through not to mention the time you will be without your car and when they replace the CVT it won't be with a brand new CVT it will be with a factory rebuilt unit which some of those factory rebuilt CVT's are self destructing within 5k miles of being installed. If you can, forget about the Outlander Sport and move up to the regular (bigger) Outlander and choose the V6 engine which will come with a regular automatic transmission rather than a CVT. Much better set up. The CVT in the Outlander Sport is what kills it.
@@edgaryzen4925 Do they even offer a manual trans for either the Outlander Sport or regular Outlander where you are at? Currently in the U.S. the only vehicle that they offer a manual trans in is the Mirage and even then only in the lowest base model. There is no manual trans option for any of their other models.
It is, the mitsubishi outlander sport is only named the outlander sport in the USA, in Japan and Canada it's called the Mitsubishi RVR and the rest of the world it's called the Mitsubishi ASX... Same vehicule!!
Owned it over a year. First of all it is not reliable at all. The transmission has issues. The engine is reliable as it should be for an engine this outdated. There is zero refinement. The cabin is full of noise, the interior quality is terrible, fit and finish is bad, the ride is too soft, the power-train is lackluster. I am happy I got rid of this car. The Outlander is considered a Compact: cars.usnews.com/cars-trucks/mitsubishi/outlander and the Outlander Sport is considered a SubCompact: cars.usnews.com/cars-trucks/mitsubishi/outlander-sport
@@everymandriver Outlander sport is not subcompact as it rides on the Lancer chassis and is bigger than subcompact CUVs
T_ ALEX just because it's bigger than regular subcompact SUVs doesn't mean it's compact. It's clearly a subcompact.
Great warranty and bang for the buck. I own 2 sports & while there slower than my past jeeps they ride better, get great gas mpg. easy to maintain And i think look better than the other compacts. My only complaint is no factory leather option.
I own a mirage. Bought it just to build my credit since I was new in the USA. I’m getting this one this December
Just bought my 1st new car! L♡ve it!!!
@@stephaniehayden7018 same here, my very first brand new one. Idk about you but something tells me that the 1st one has a STRONG attachment to it especially when it treat well. I'm loving it and I can see myself being very sad to let it go.
Thanks Kevin 🙂 drive safely 👍🏾
Is it possible because they don't have much vehicles in the road to begin with?
Malith Perera Exactly
It's because of the extremely low sample numbers. It's hard to get accurate comparable data since these sell in very low numbers.
Made in Japan reliability, Great warranty, Great 4wd and great price.
You can't go wrong.
Great review Dave....
Off road test next?
I feel like mazda is the best currently
@@yourmanzach2307
Mazda's are great, but lower real world pricing and better AWD make Mitsubishi a good choice too.
@@mushroomcloud1 what makes their awd so great? I know they are great but is it because they are symmetrical like Subaru?
@@yourmanzach2307
Mitsubishi, like Subaru has a long history of off road rally racing and have owned the Dakar rally. This translates into engineering know how. On their CUV's like the Outlander Sport for example, you have 8.5 inches of ground clearance and all the parts are tucked up tight out of harms way. In addition, you can select between modes
2wd, 4wd auto and 4wd lock
With 4 wheel lock, 50% of the power is directed to the rear wheels. for offroad, sand or mud. 4 wheel auto the car uses traction and conditions to determine the ratio of front to rear power distribution.
This is good for icy roads and snow.
Most of the competition in this class don't share this ability.
Made in Normal, Illinois!
Mitsubishi is doing great
My grandma owns one, it’s eh
The interior needs a major overhaul, I own the 2013 version, and this aint much different on the interior. What I do like about it though, is the ground clearance at 8.5" which is nice. And the AWD system works nice, with a AWD lock mode. But yeah, the seats are very uncomfortable for long rides, and even in this 2019 model the interior materials are super cheap
Just watched your 2016 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport GT review! Dave has changed, sporty new look! The car...not so much since 2016. lol
LOL. SAMETHING WITH IPHONE'S.
Dave, don't you think that the Mitsu's great warranty is at least worth a mention?
It's called ASX in Australia and it's classified as small SUV with 2ltr engine. Outlander is the bigger brother, not much bigger though
It's also known as the asx in the UK as well.
1st. Thanks Dave. Looks alright. Seems to be missing a few things for top trim level. Love the review as always. 3:47 Booyah??? Lol!
Good review Dave 👍
is "sub compact suv" even smaller than "compact suv" ?
My Honda has a CVT 4 cylinder. Not everyone wants to speed around town, dude. I especially don't want my teen driving crazy.....
Drove it, a lot, manual. Takes off at the light, it can hit nice cruising speeds on the highway. Reliable, built in Normal, IL. It handles a lot better on the after market premium rubbers.
The Illinois plant was shut down and sold a few years ago.
These are made and imported directly from Japan.
I'm 6'4" 300lbs will I fit I'm coming from a 2015 Mustang that fit but not really spacious.
Nope
@@everymandriver It gets delivered Sunday a couple of other places said no problem but we'll see? I'll tell the driver to stick around for a minute 😂
I had one I'm from the UK and here it's called the asx and it came with a 1.6 litre 16v with 117hp and Manuel 5 speed gearbox it does 60 in 11.5 seconds and with front wheel drive only unless you got it with the 2.2 litre diesel with CVT gearbox and it wasn't much quicker
wich 2019 is better. the LE trim or SE trim?
Good review. Thanks.
Nice. Fold side mirrors to save a couple of seconds.
It’s been around for ages though it looks better than it did. Was the basis for the old Jeep Patriot. The only reason i would buy one would be price and warranty
These Auto makers just throw the word sport around with no actual sportiness
There's more than one definition of the word sport.
Rogue sport 😂
Looking at a used 2019 as a first car for my high school daughter. Thoughts? It would be the SE trim, BTW.
just bought a LS Limited edition.
I have the SE version and how do I know if it has AWD
A ralliart trim level would be nice, 2.0L tubo, the one that was in the lancer or the 3.0 v6 that is in the bigger outlander with a torque converted automatic.
Wheres evo?😢
Sport xD thing weighs like 4300lbs... Hey modern cars... the 90's called and they want their weight back...
I just bought an "exact" brand new one like u have there & my screen does not look like that one🤔
These are nice vehicles
I'd say more like they are very "basic" vehicles which, to some could be a very good thing. Not everyone wants a lot of complexity in a new car. These are very reminiscent of the 2007 through 2013 Suzuki SX4's.
I own a 2011 with panoramic sunroof shame they took away that option but yes it was like 5k for a glass roof

The top trim has paddles to shift, woofer and panoramic roof. That one is not the “top trim”.
Yep the top trim always did bit they did aways with them for 2019 (audio and moonroof). We have a 2016 GT with them and love it. Dono why they dropped it for 2019 but the redesigned one comes out the end a this year and it is sharp!
Which is better..subaru forester or mitsubhishi outlander 2019?
Forester hands down.
Both proven vehicles, Outlander by an inch. Just because theyre cheaper to own and maintain.
Boxer engines suck! They are very problematic and suck your wallet dry once you need a repair. Id go with the Outlander.
@@intenseextremities1779 I can attest to this after owning a 2004 Outback 3.0, it needed thousands of dollars of repairs after only being at 140k miles.
Outlander
My wife got the 2.0 I can't believe how slow it is
So what is your personal vehicle ?
Need to get the crash rating better
i want the regular outlander but it needs a wider body.
You get more mitsubishi press cars than anyone I have ever seen on UA-cam. Lol. I still like the looks of these tho, long in the tooth
Man you're fit!
You didnt mentioned if it has rear traffic alert ?
It dose not Only Lee migration in front and collision warning
Lane*
No of course it's not sporty. If you think it is or if you even hoped it might be then you don't know what sporty means.
It's good at being a reasonable car but that's it.
Really no button to open the tailgate from inside? That's cheesy
Mitsubishi is a niche presence in the US market now, which suits them because their over sea sales are huge. For me its that extra 4 grand I saved when I got my Mirage vs the Yaris I was looking at.
It’s made in japan
that's right
Made in Japan means quality
@@gregr2784 yes, that's huge. That's another reason we're looking at it. When I bought my Elantra I chose the one built at the Ulsan factory in Korea and not one made in The US.
@@joeb2588 did you buy it?
@@karle0822 no, not yet. We wont be ready for another year. But it's up on the list.
Too bad this platform hasn't been updated in so long. The Outlander Sport is the perfect size for city driving with enough interior space. I like the more 'simple' aspect. Don't need push button or power liftgate ....
Sport now means small, check Nissan Rogue.
9 seconds is horrible for now adays vehicles. You need at least the low 8s to get out in traffic. Nice looking though, but to slow for me.
Ok I will admit it I like the music.
Honestly don't understand ppl buy one of these when there are many of better options
Cost. Reliability.
Mitsubishi has 3rd in customer satisfaction meaning that other choices are not better
Cheap, Gas, Reliable, and warranty.
Because this is what we want
Also 100% Japanese made
isn't it RVR???
Jason Ware in Canada its called an RVR.
Without any offence to anyone, i still can't understand how you could call it "sport driving" with automatic transmission... 😃
What about the manual transmission? No problem right?
@@edgaryzen4925 Do they even offer a manual trans for either the Outlander Sport or regular Outlander where you are at? Currently in the U.S. the only vehicle that they offer a manual trans in is the Mirage and even then only in the lowest base model. There is no manual trans option for any of their other models.
I thought it was a Mitsubishi asx model to be honest.
It is, the mitsubishi outlander sport is only named the outlander sport in the USA, in Japan and Canada it's called the Mitsubishi RVR and the rest of the world it's called the Mitsubishi ASX... Same vehicule!!
Where can I find your cell phone holder?
That car has zero get up 😂😂😂
Owned it over a year. Get the Koreans if you want some value. This brand is just cheap!
Can you give more details about the transmission issues you were having?
Sound like you got the wrong kind of car to fit your "needs" from the get go. That's too bad cuz this is a great car for someone who doesn't share the same wishes as you do. Nothing wrong with yours, really but we learn and grow in life too. Its normal
9 seconds that is bad. This is not 1995 lol.
It’s a Mitsubishi nothing more
It's the CVT that kills it.
Is it sporty? Nope
It's an SUV, of course it isn't sporty
Good video... "meh" car :)
Exactly
These things are so fricking old. Front seats are TERRIBLE - like sitting on top of cardboard on concrete ground. Literally the only good thing about these are the ridiculously powerful n quick air conditioner units in hot climate areas.
That's not what the customer satisfaction ratings reflect
T_ ALEX well there’s an orange dickhead in the White House so it’s not like anecdotes are everything
