- On this episode of Head 2 Head, Jonny Lieberman heads to Graz, Austria, the home of one of the world's toughest off roaders - the Mercedes-Benz G-Wagen. The last time a G63 appeared on Head 2 Head, it beat out the all-new and quite excellent Range Rover Supercharged. This time, however, the G63 faces even stiffer competition - another G63. Of course, this particular G has an extra axle, because it's the $500,000+ G63 AMG 6x6! Costing roughly twice as much as the awesome twin-turbo V-12 powered G65, the 6x6 is the ultimate expression of the Gelandewagen... on paper. But is it actually any good? Is the 6x6 as awesome as it looks, or is the regular G-Wagen just too well thought out? And why is the 6-wheeled truck always jumping in the air like that? Watch and find out!

That 6x6 is quite possibly the coolest thing I've ever seen.
I have a white one exactly like that one. It is very good off road and everybody looks and smiles and wants to drive it. Of course I let everyone drive it, very durable and Traxxas is great with parts.
The sad part is that nobody will take there g63 off road. The only hills they drive on are Beverley Hills.

Yeah well sorry but my 55,000 six inch lift power stroke with performance chip could snatch this pretty boy play toy everywhere. Our trucks are made for getting shit done. Not playing on paved "off roads"
Yeah its shame they don't offer a turbo diesel in these platforms, because really with a similar relative cost for up grades to this vehicle it would be able to compete with the lifted coal rollers in the states.
And (as far as a vehicle that size can) I wonder how the three axle design would compare to the two axle trucks in common offroading trials like mudding, hill climbing, tractor pulling, rock climbing etc.
I doubt it could even spin a decent doughnut.
Ford made a 6×6 that makes more power. Not nearly as luxury but definitely better off road. It's called the volociraptor
@@bradleyweldon2621 Except that it wasn't Ford who built it, it was Hennessey who made these out of regular Ford Raptors. And I wonder from where you take the assumption that it would be better off road than the G 6x6. I don't know much about the capabilities of the american trucks, so I don't want to talk bad about them, but I think it's also fair to say that Mercedes can build totally reliable cars and has proved thousands of times that the G-class is really capable at driving off road.
Very well thought out design by incorporating 2 gas tanks, you can use the first one to get you to the grocery store and then use the reserve tank to make it back home

I think the G-class and the Nissan Patrol are the only 2 SUVs on my dream list, and since Mercedes-Benz built the 6x6, it's been up there at the top. Got the chance to see one in person a couple months ago at a high end car show, and man is it big.

+My First Drone Wasn't the H1 Alpha a concept vehicle? It doesn't make much sense to compare a concept that's built on '60s tech to one that is quite clearly at the apex of auto design. And don't kid yourself. When it went into production, the HMMWV was 15 years out of date, as far as military high-mobility vehicles go. That was 30+ years ago.

+Evan Boyer The problem is that their v12 engine is really old and outdated, just look at their newest head2head with the g65, they said the only problem with it was the fact that the g63 exists. For example, i can get the same exact v12 biturbo engine on a 2005 sl65 amg for about $35k.
Watch the new head 2 head, that V12 engine isn't as good as the V8.

sad part, for being "offroad" trucks, at 135k for cheaper of the 2 no one will buy one and off road with it. Also same problem with land rovers, they are ment for off road but price of them makes no one want to cause its to expensive to mess up. Give me that 135grand, could easy build a truck that would beat that g63 and still have money left in your pocket.
The thing is if you are spending 135 grand on a vehicle you want it to be backed up with a warranty and reliable and luxurious and safe and practical. You could build a better luxury car for that money or you could build a better offroader....but not both.
It's always funny to see comments from people saying "Give me that... blah blah... and I will build a better (whatever)...".

Have you seen some of the vehicle's in some of the Arab nations? A lot of those oil rich princes would buy one and god forbid they had to run from some of the crazies in that part of the world....the 6x6 starts to make sense.
Not true really. Loads of people in the UK take RR's/LR's offroad, mainly rich/wealthy farmers and shooters, but they are definitely not just hollywood cruisers.
I would take a 4matic AMG offroading, but I would prefer taking a F150 Raptor Hennessey for offroading, because the AMG is way to beautiful :D

Saw one of those beasts today at my mercedes dealership, when dropping off my smart for a body repair. Its massive, the lower window edge was in neck height and if it were a singlecab I could probably park my fortwo in the back. First point in the list of features was "Spaß" (fun in german) lol.
The mercedes AMG 6X6 was originally built for the australian defence force to replace old rolls royce 6X6 vehicles as the main supply transport/gun carrier vehicle. Over 2,500 of them were made for the defence force and mercedes went and started making them for civilian markets as well.
The first UA-cam ad that I did not skip in my life. It was for the Porsche 919.
