He especially but they both were kinda at the end of trying to make it in the hip hop because it wasn't happening in the scale of work and money + performing can be taxing. El-P isn't just lyrically master but it's almost always his/their beats.
His solos are more in the vain of Aesop Rock lyrically and his last solo before RTJ's was phenomenal in every aspect. They decided to try one more time and make Run The Jewels more just puncline fun rap. It worked immidiatelly because both are masters but big wide general audience won't go for Killer Mike's more political stuff (which he does in real life more after the platform RTJ's gave) and El-P's metaphora every kinda trick in the book decyphre this rap. I was even suprised when Aesop blew a bit up with The Impossible Kid (I think it was because at the time music videos in yt would do A LOT and he had one for every song).

  • @adamsalisbury9052

the numbers were about the increasing rate of mass incarceration. all throughout the video the line up got more and more stacked against RTJ, starting with a guy in a wheelchair and a nun, then the next line up including a uniformed police officer a young girl, and a "Blind guy" who just happened to be able to look at the card he as given so he could read what hand sign he had to give, a fact most reactors seem to miss. then the final line up is RTJ with nothing but officers, as officers are removed one by one and the the witness is pressured to identify RTJ as the culprits. so to me the video is about how police line ups can be easily manipulated to give the outcome police want, and that witness testimony is not always reliable.

more Aesop Rock pleeeease. Really enjoy your reactions to interesting wordplay and Aesop has a ridiculous amount of content to digest. I think you'd really like "Get out the Car" "Skrunk" and "Kirby" in that order. They're essentially a 3-part story of his inner monologue hesitant to get out of the car and walk into the therapist's office (Get out the car), filling out paper work and waiting to talk to his therapist (Shrunk), and on his shrink's advice, adopting a kitten (Kirby) - summed up by the line, "Fifteen years taking prescriptions, Now a shrink like, i dunno, maybe get a kitten." It's honest and real and the word play throughout is immaculate.
as with anything aesop, closed captioning is a godsend and most of his official videos are meticulously edited to be accurate lyrics. cheers

I’ve never really been the kind of person to listen to much rap or hip hop, but I can not get enough of RTJ. Killer Mike’s flow is just ridiculous. How does his mind work? The keep track of the words, syllables, beat, pronunciation and doing it all so quickly and making it seem so easy. Crazy. I think their most impressive songs are “Oh My Darling (Don’t Cry)” and “Blockbuster Night Part 1”. Again I’m not that knowledgeable about rap and hip hop, but to me Killer Mike is playing the game on god mode in these two.

Oh I also wanted to ask what groups that RTJ sounds like I should listen to. You said that this was “classic hip hop” or something to that tune and I wish I knew more about this. I’m 27 and grew up in a very white area. The only rap and hip hop I was really exposed to was quite frankly what I would consider to be pop shit. What I mean by that is all that got to me would have been the the most mainstream stuff from the 2000s. I can remember a bunch of white kids dancing to “boots with the fur” at highschool dances *puke*. You can imagine my aversion to the whole rap/hip hop world. I love the wu tang clan! There stuff is super creative. I want more good stuff. This channel has helped. Anyone out there though, other oldschool bomb stuff like this? This song was actually my introduction to RTJ. Have love them ever since. Monsters on the mic, and El's production is always a winner.

First, I saw RTJ-Lengend Has It - instantly like the video. Awesome video and song.
Second you talk about the 'made you look and get hit game', one I introduced my daughter to last year and now she gets me with it at the most random moments.
Third, crying to myself laugh to your reaction to their lyrics.
Fourth - Kill Your Masters - Truth.

The point of the end of the video is that when the girl lights the cigarette, she, by coincidence, makes the RTJ sign with her hands.

Dude, killer Mike's last verse hit so hard. It had been released right after Floyd died there was so much emotion in the country and in that verse at the time, I actually shed a tear when I heard it.
