El-P isn't just lyrically master but it's almost always his/their beats. His solos are more in the vain of Aesop Rock lyrically and his last solo before RTJ's was phenomenal in every aspect. They decided to try one more time and make Run The Jewels more just puncline fun rap. It worked immidiatelly because both are masters but big wide general audience won't go for Killer Mike's more political stuff (which he does in real life more after the platform RTJ's gave) and El-P's metaphora every kinda trick in the book decyphre this rap. I was even suprised when Aesop blew a bit up with The Impossible Kid (I think it was because at the time music videos in yt would do A LOT and he had one for every song).
The numbers are showing the increasing rates of mass incarceration in the United States over the years. I think "Angel Duster" would be another solid RTJ track to give a reaction to, definitely more meat and potatoes and less candy compared to "Legend Has It".

When the cops were all walking in on the last lineup, El was like... can you believe this? And then right before the verse started he says "ok"... like... "ah, that's how it's gonna be, I see"
That line is one of a few I always laugh when I hear it. “Humblest guy in the room and I am in the room, too.” “Fat boy dressed up like he’s Santa and took pictures with your kids - (kid: Santa?)” Those two crack me up every time, too.

Starting with Don't Get Captured, it seems like they began putting much more effort into each music video having its own self-contained story that runs parallel to the song. I usually listen to audio only, so when I get a chance to watch an RTJ video, it's like a whole new experience! Also I need a Yankee & The Brave animated series. 😄 El-P and KM, make this happen! 👉🤛🏿

They're essentially a 3-part story of his inner monologue hesitant to get out of the car and walk into the therapist's office (Get out the car), filling out paper work and waiting to talk to his therapist (Shrunk), and on his shrink's advice, adopting a kitten (Kirby) - summed up by the line, "Fifteen years taking prescriptions, Now a shrink like, i dunno, maybe get a kitten." It's honest and real and the word play throughout is immaculate. as with anything aesop, closed captioning is a godsend and most of his official videos are meticulously edited to be accurate lyrics. cheers

I’ve never really been the kind of person to listen to much rap or hip hop, but I can not get enough of RTJ. Killer Mike’s flow is just ridiculous. How does his mind work? The keep track of the words, syllables, beat, pronunciation and doing it all so quickly and making it seem so easy. Crazy. I think their most impressive songs are “Oh My Darling (Don’t Cry)” and “Blockbuster Night Part 1”. Again I’m not that knowledgeable about rap and hip hop, but to me Killer Mike is playing the game on god mode in these two.
Oh I also wanted to ask what groups that RTJ sounds like I should listen to. You said that this was “classic hip hop” or something to that tune and I wish I knew more about this. I’m 27 and grew up in a very white area. The only rap and hip hop I was really exposed to was quite frankly what I would consider to be pop shit. What I mean by that is all that got to me would have been the the most mainstream stuff from the 2000s.
