  • In this video I indulged my inner childhood weirdo self and made a fantasy ranger kit for adventuring in the forest! This was made almost entirely from fabric in my stash, and all the individual projects could easily be done in an afternoon.

What a great idea - love it. My inner weirdo was alloud to come out an play about 15 years ago and since this year it's alloud to come out in my day to day life. I started making and wearing my late victorian clothes almost everyday. I am so much happier now.

I am still so impressed and amazed at how much happier peoples lives are when we embrace the inner weirdo and wear whatever we want! Good for you, that sounds awesome!

    Love it!
And if you're looking for grommet setting suggestions, I'd recommend Prym Vario pliers. They come with one set of inserts that cut the holes in the fabric, and another to set the grommets. One day I'll upgrade to a grommet press, but for now the pliers do nicely 👌

One day I’m going to give into my fantasy-loving kid’s heart and buy far too fancy wool and linen to make myself a *proper* outfit. Then I’ll go adventurin’ in the nearest semi-wilderness. :D What’s the point in growing up if you can’t indulge your inner kid?

I swear I just have jobs so I can indulge my inner kid 😂 I definitely want to try a real proper wilderness adventure someday!

It looks amazing, and even though I don't have a sewing machine, nor do I have any sewing/stitching skills, I do want to try this!!
One question though.... Wouldn't the bracer(s) be more useful if the cording is on the outside? Because if you get string slapped, it will be on the inside...
Unless the bumpyness of the cording is a feature that helps feel it less, where the smooth leather offers little protection?
I'm an archer, but never had a leather bracer, it's always been a very modern one (as kid, bright orange plastic with some elastic straps - no, not rubber bands, straps... and when I outgrew these, I always used what the bow shop has in stock - AKA in the genre of "avalon single arm guard"

It would definitely be better if the cording was on the outside - the cording was supposed to sit on the underside of my forearm, out of the way of the bowstring, but it slid around a bit during the reveal (that's the one thing I want to fix before I wear them again). I usually use a modern leather guard for my archery, and always keep the straps well out of the way of the string. :)

Thanks for the quick answer, and for confirming my thoughts :)
Maybe some kind of velcro could help keeping the bracer oriented nicely? 1side on the shiny inside of the bracer and the other part of the velcro on the outside of the shirt...
Of course, if you sew/glue the velcro on the shirt, that shirt will only be usable with bracers (with or without velcro) if you don't want velcro to be visible......

@@mvl8209 I think switching the cording to something less slick will play a big part, and finding a better way to tighten the laces. I found they tended to work themselves looser as I moved around, so those two things should make for a great improvement! :)
