It makes sense to inquire about transplant suitability before the situation becomes critical. Best decisions are not made when your back is against the wall!
For those of us who are quiet people it would be so appreciated if the doctor gave us handouts with basic information on the first visit. Many have no idea what kidney disease is and have a lot of work to do to figure it out. Very hard for the elderly who are visually and hearing impared.
I will ask these questions. You're right that some of us just don't know what to ask. Also, for me when it was bad news I was in shock. Later, I had questions.
My kidney function went down 20 points in 8 months. I had edema , lack of energy, now my BP is better and I feel healthy. Doc said Stage 3a. Do you think this may be temporary? No more edema. Now taking a water elimination pill.
Thank you very much for your excellent explanations. With regards.

💯 too many get educated about dialysis or transplant when they are right about to need it
Yes, that is great information to know and maybe give new patients the questions to ask when they consult with their Nephrologist for the first time.
Yes especially for the first appointment. Byt numbers like creatinine and eGFR, should be asked every visit.
