This video is so good, when I saw your sub count I thought it meant 300k because that what this deserves. Also, I think ash is actually 11. In alola they once said that to take on the trials you needed to be 11 or older, but maybe I got it wrong.
@@yeonderella_553 Well, Red was 11, but Ash is ten. Specifically 10 years, 10 months, and 10 days old when he started his journey (According to Takeshi Shudo). Since Ash hasn't aged since then, he's technically still 10. Also, I totally agree with the sub thing and am subscribing right now.
Yay my pokemon obsession from 5 to 30 got my comment highlighted first one ever. Wasn't correcting or anything just something I thought the show forgot themselves with the 8th gym Giovanni mewtwo in armor was synced with the first movie. And didn't think about 25 years later
I always thought that in x y not only his appearence seemed older, but also his behaviour was kind of more mature. I really liked that. I mean, I still enjoyed the following seasons, but mature Ash stays my favorite.
Ah nah his maturity peak was in Sinnoh, because the fact he got depressed over losing to Wulfric bc of the frog, despite having to deal with even worse training his Chimchar in Sinnoh and never showing that attitude there (he doubted himself way too much but never gave up like that)
You know? I can recall a time he was gonna dump some of his pokemons cause they didn't won a combat, and I'd see that as normal for anyone if Ash wasn't a character that has always cared more of his pokemon friends rather than a win
The creator said the 10 yrs old thing is a representation of youth not actual age. Kakui even had a freakin baby, he has aged its just supposed to represent spirit of youth
@@VeeVolt one of em said something about springtime of youth and its always supposed to be summer in pokemon. Again kakuis wife went through pregnancy etc, he ages but its a metaphor. Xy was the time they were going to truly break the mold and backed out last minute. We may yet set an older older ash
So that's why he is so stagnant😮. If they make him younger it wouldn't fit the story and if they make him older it wouldn't feel like he's a youthful protagonist (Unless they make him a careless teenager😂)
it also had the best pokemon battle animation quality as well. Or so i think, i haven't kept up with Journeys, but have watched a few clips (like ash vs champion iris) and still remember xy animation being better
@@Aquadadragon is that so? huh, i might go and check out some journeys battle scenes. Any specific ones you can recommend rn for having good animation? i did watch the Leon vs Ash fight yesterday haha. That one was amazing.
Personally, it was nice seeing ash looking and even acting more mature. In my opinion, he should have stayed that way from XY onwards. There's no point making him gradually nature just to throw it out the window in the next series, and his overly childish personality is kinda unacceptable imo. Ten or not, there's a limit to how much immaturity ash can have after 25 years
In the later episode of Journeys, I felt like it was weird to see Ash flashback to previous seasons, to see the Journey Ash art style in the outfits of past seasons, as its kinda hard to imagine its the same guy, yeah Ash was always kinda immature (he's 10 after all) I always felt like Ash didn't really behave like a 10 year old, he totally does now which is fine, because he is one after all. But its weird to imagine that Journeys Ash is the same guy as in Kalos for example
I really miss his XY design and his maturity in that series. SM was great but I never got over the art style change, it just felt such a downgrade compared to what we had before.
Me too i hope there will be new season of xyz 😔😔😔🥺🥺🥺😢😢😢😭😭😭😭that's my emotion right now and that will be my last end only wish because not only i like the ship serena x ash there somthing i wanna go back the memories at the year i wach xy to xyz after that every thing i have was lost included pokemon xyz that's why i get super sick that i think i can't fight eny more my only wish will be that the pokemon xyz to have new season😢😢😢with serena
@@dawnsbuneary Thats called having an "Inner kid", but you probably dont know what that is because you think being an adult means being depreseed all the time
My favorite character designs were the Advanced Series - XY designs. All of those designs between Gen 3-6 felt like Ash was actually aging a bit and gave us the sense of some maturity in the anime, but the new designs are a lot more "young" and I understand why the designs are simplified, so that the studios have more animation friendly designs, but idk it feels like the animation has gone under a downward spiral in Journeys.
Bw could of been hype if a certain event in Japan didn't happen. preview of can be watched ye seems like they couldn't rewrite it without a city getting destroyed.
N was gonna show up way earlier and all that. team rocket wouldn't of gotten rid of the new black uniform if this arc was done. Feel this arc and what it could of expanded was y ash did so many gym so much faster at start
Xy brought me back to being a Pokémon fan, I loved it so much. I’d not played or watched Pokémon in years until I randomly just decided to check it out. It was already finished at that point so I binged through it & it completely won me over. Pokemon’s not felt the same since then, I’ve seen a few Sun & Moon & Journey’s episodes but I don’t care for it much. Sad to me. Xy just felt so different & it was awesome…
i used to watch advanced and dp anime, then dropped the anime with unova. BW/B2W2 were some of my fav games, but the anime just didn't cut it out for me. And i couldn't play xy cuz i didn't have a 3ds, so i stopped keeping track of the anime as well, until like several months after the xy anime started airing, when i saw a random battle clip on youtube. I was blown away by how good the animation was that i got back into the pokemon anime while not playing the games at all hahahahahaha
same thing happened when i was like 10 bro absolutely loved it, cried on the last episode lmaooo, then i forgot about it until like last year and i got hooked again, xy was so unique and i still absolutely love it
I think the actual biggest reason is because Kalos was the first region there wasnt a physically more mature guy traveling with Ash. Without a Brock, Tracey or Cilan like character but being surrounded by newer characters the same height or even smaller for once, the perspective has us imagine a more physically grown Ash when otherwise he's the same. Also yeah, first time his clothes aren't pretty baggy also helps lol
I can't lie it does make me sad we probably won't see another Ash design that is similar to XY Ash but hopefully it's still possible one day! But mann your Points are Amazing it really changed my outlook on XY Ash, Serena and more and to be honest maybe not following XY Ash's direction is for the best but you know Fantastic Video! i can't wait for your next one 😆🔥
I think Ash will age in Gen 9. Maybe around 14-16 years old. In Dragon Ball Goten and Trunks finally grew up after 20 years. And time plays a big role in Gen 9.
Even with the amazing Leon fight, XY will always be my favorite season. A more mature Ash, best visuals of ALL the Pokemon series, great companions who each had good character arcs, even the pokemon themselves get good story arcs, with Greninja having such a compelling story that rivals even Charizard and Infernape. And the inclusion of a love interest was just such a great bonus. Serena is so beloved BECAUSE her crush on Ash was not her only motivation, hell she GETS her motivation to be a performer as she journeys with Ash, we literally see her go through the motions to become the character we all know and love. I know a lot of fans are okay with the current season being Ash's last journey, but I for one would love for his victory to become the stepping stone for an older Ash that can continue having the story tone that XY embodied so well.
Couldn’t agree more, and Serena and Ash’s dynamic was so enjoyable and entertaining to watch cause the romance aspect was actually given a conclusion with Serena’s kiss instead of leaving it vague and open ended like with the previous pokégirls. Serena discovering her dreams and ambitions by journeying with ash and co is really heartwarming to watch as well cause they both support each others goals :) Also Serena getting angry at Ash for getting depressed with his losing streak against Sawyer and Wulfric and ultimately helping Ash get his funk back, also led to him mastering Greninja’s bond phenomenon as well and that’s what truly sold me on Amourshipping, cause she doesn’t just blindly worship/follow him around and helps support him just as much as Ash helped her figure out her dreams and ambitions :)
The one thing I can say for sure is X Y and Z feels like the series grew up with me Ash feels more mature and cooler and when we went into sun and moon he became more childish and Goofy and I really don't mind because that's true to his character but I would like to return back to the XY and Z style one day
I don't feel like Journeys buried Amourshipping though; I ship it and I was actually very happy with how the episode tackled it. Like you said, it's a series about monsters, so they can't get TOO bold with it all, for better or worse. But they VERY easily could've flubbed the note XY closed on, by making some cheap joke at Serena's expense about Ash still being dense or what not, deconfirming what the ending implied for them. But they handled a delicate situation with care, let them meet in the last minute of the episode; I'm pretty sure the constant moves to keep them apart were pretty much a meta joke on how leaving them together would lead to complications; and their meeting was very fitting for the two of them. They were instantly thrilled to see each other, with touching music playing over the scene, and reluctantly pulled apart. For the very little time they have, they shout their ambitions to each other over the sea with the sunset backdrop; notice how a major complaint of later series is that Ash doesn't talk about his accomplishments or ambitions that much, or share with his friends? I don't recall him even mentioning the PWC to Dawn of all people. Meanwhile he shouts that to Serena as his first thought. It was all pretty romantic, in their own personalized way. Plus, there's the Great Gatsby reference at the end, with the green lights. I felt that scene was pretty romantically coded, with ambiguity left to get away with.
Also the whole episode has Serena quoting to Chloe, word to word, every lesson Ash taught her throughout XY/Z. If this doesn’t show the impact he had on her as a character, I don’t know what does.
@@momijiparfait Literally. And that's a healthy use of the ship! He made a positive impact on her as a person and now she's passing that strength and wisdom on to other people.
since they changed to a more simpler animationfriendly style with Sun&Moon and reset his Ash mostly. i feel they missed an opurtunity to end ashes story in the XY series, then after a timeskip have his kid take the main character spot . That way they could have had the kid have new sillyer adventures learning the ropes, and have Ash step in for some tougher battles & lifelesson scenes. They went the safer route by having Ash be their "mickey mouse" of sorts wich is understandable(especially since he is originally named Satoshi after the creator of pokemon Satoshi Tajiri ) but its fun to imagine.
Ash didn’t even look 10 in XY/XYZ. He felt so much more mature. The plot, characters, animation (especially animation) was so good. We’ll never get this again.
@@dawnsbuneary We all have our things we get really excited about right? If i suddenly hear something really exciting, i get excited like a little kid too sometimes. That’s totally normal. Just because he acts really excited doesn’t mean he ain’t mature
@@Goolwa I get being excited. But Ash in XY does it with such frequency, that it doesn't feel natural. And it's a joke that overstays its own welcome, anyways.
I like Pokémon xy the best cause of the story but also the design I really did like that they added a lil romance cause honestly they should make a tv 14 version of Pokémon 😏😉☺️
They'll only make Ash older if they plan on closing him out of the anime at some point, which I doubt will happen any time soon... Edit: Alright looks like I'm eating my words now.
he only seemed older in xy bc of the artstyle and his clothing wasnt baggy which made him appear taller. he had the same personality as previous seasons.
@@RandomVids0987Gen 9 Pokemon season: Ash travels to another world to win a championship. But in reality I hope the show doesn't end with ash idgaf if it was 22 years of pokemon still want it to go
Great video man! You made some really solid points here. I really hope the scarlet and violet anime goes back to the XYZ style of art. I'd even be happy with a diamond and pearl Ash. I don't hate the newer artstyles but I also don't love them. Whereas the old artstyle was just so cool
It definitely feels weird when looking at Ash in XY because he really doesn't look like 10 year old and doesn't feel like a 10 year old. They 100% look like teens.
Although I do not like the modern styles I do agree with your point. I personaly feel like the creators were moving in a direction where they were fine with moving into older looking designs and addressing romantic topics, but decided to step back as they realized it would be hard to keep up in the very, very long run. I personally loved Calem and Serena possibly being older and love fan art of Ash shown in the last picture.
You made some good points that sound correct on paper, but based on the empirical evidence I would have to disagree. Remember movie ash introduced during sun and moon looked more mature, with the power of us ash looking the most muscular. It is more likely that sun and moon and Jouneys ash looks younger bc the series is supposed to be more light hearted. To be fair, although a lot of people love xy ash, one of the criticisms was that his character was too serious and had no balance.
I'm honestly okay with Ashe's new Journeys design. Perfect for looking silly but also for looking excited for Pokemon battles. Like in the masters 8 with Leon vs ash image. But honestly thought... He needs to grow up. imo i don't think it'll be bad as fans from all ages would like to see him grow a little.
Another reason the art style has changed is because the anime studio has cheaped out on the animators. Animators have always been overworked and underpaid, and at times, they do rush on the animation to meet short deadlines. With the movies, the characters are designed fine since the movies are shorter than a 12-episode anime season.
My personal thought is that Pokemon Company and OLM were thinking of finally giving Ash his retirement back in XY. In such a context, making him clearly the most mature and stable Ash ever, with a girl who herself who won't feel out of place as an anime high-schooler made perfect sense and can be expected to please the veteran audience. Even if that meant he can't do some of the gags that fit themselves well to the primary school kids that are the primary demographic of the show. Unfortunately the show wimped out from pulling through, which I think is a mistake because frankly SM!Ash deviated from the old Ash design so much the others all looked like minor variations. All insisting the SM protagonist was still Ash did was make people make comparisons.
My thoughts are also the same as the first line. Still can't figure out why and how they decided to go all out with badass in XY&Z and made him good for nothing child design in SM. If you would notice, XY kinda animations we will see only in movies.
Honestly, I loved hoenn and sinnoh ash designs. The hooded sleeveless jacket, along with the new hat and pants, makes him look like he's gonna have a harsh journey in hoenn. Ash in sinnoh cloths look way too cool. His newly added yellow and black vest along with his cooler hat which is a slight upgrade from his hoenn hat. But the main reason I love this ash design is his pants. His long but baggie pants make him look so much older and cooler along with the added designs.
Well XY Ash won't return because he and Pikachu are leaving the anime. We are witnessing a HUGE end of an era right now. I will miss this duo so damn much.
I honestly believe it would be great if ash grew a bit in between the series. For instance, being 10 while in kanto, 11 in johto, 12 in hoenn, and so on. But having him grow older between the anime seasons would be great because it shows that ash grows mentally and physically as time goes on. (It also makes a bit more sense to have yearly Pokémon tournaments) This decision might also make the viewers feel as if ash is growing up with him (or at least make it easier to seem that way, since the people that were Pokémon fans since it first started airing are most likely in their thirties to early forties). It also give writers an excuse to dabble with things such as romance as they did in xy (which if he grew a year for every mainline game, he would 15 while exploring the kalos region). This also gives somewhat of a better reason to be in school while in alola. 16 is an age where kids are going to be in highschool, and it gives ash more of a reason to be in school than just “because he wanted to”. At the time of writing this I have no clue if ash is going to appear in the scarlet and violet anime and how old he is going to be but if we followed my “age up 1 year for every mainline game” he would be 18, an adult, ready to pass his torch to a new protagonist. And I know he was kept 10 so he can represent youth or something like that but he would still be a teenager, a kid, and be able to act like a kid, but a more matured kid as time goes on. This would also make the relationships between the characters much greater because some of these characters would have been by ashes side for years giving them an understandable bond. An example of this is Brock, who would have been traveling with ash for 3-4 years making their goodbye a bit more sadder than what it currently is. And of course the great bond between ash and pikachu who would have been traveling for over 8 years. This can also make returning character such as Charizard in black and white much greater since I would have been at least 4 years since he was on the team. Also it would suck if ash died six times in one year (I’m stating this because dying six time in one year seems more unreasonable than dying 6 times in the course of 8 years, which still sounds unreasonable) All of this is my own opinion and I don’t fully expects others to agree with me (mainly because I sloppily put this thing together without doing that much research) but I feel as if aging him up every once is a while would make sense to the story especially in situations like tournaments it would make way more sense if a 17 year old is the strongest trainer than if a 10 year old is the strongest trainer. (And if there there is like a 10-20 year timeskip or something like that, why bother trying to keep him 10) Anyways those are my 2 cents on the Pokémon anime. and if you read this entire comment, I hope you get something out of it.
Ash still have those clothes/outfit, in Pokemon Journey, Ash actually uses his XY Gloves/band, but he dont wear it all the time, its too hot and sweat on his arm, so he only use the gloves/band, for battles, he wears his Z-Ring, Daimax Band and Key stone glove, also his hats are on his house in Kanto, he never use it, he always buy new hat, he spend his money for just a hat, also its to hot to wear a jacket, so he wear vest with yellow stripe instead, with white shirt (with red stripe) well at XY/XZY, Ash wears black shirt, but its too hot for him, since black absorbs heat, while white bounce off the heat, also in Alola, he dont wear vest nor jacket, just blue and white stripes shirt, since Alola is tropical region, its hot, when wearing jacket, Except for Ula Ula island mountain, but he use a temporary jacket, when in Ula Ula island, he borrowed it since he didn't bring his jacket, after Alola, Ash is now wear a vest, no sleeves, how many money that Ash has, well he spend money on hats all the time, he obsessed to hats, he wears hat everyday, except for sleeping, also 10M thunderbolt required that hat on pikachu, when Ash perform a Z-Move
The bottom line is we will NEVER see a Pokémon anime adaptation as good as XY was. It was a lightning in a bottle for the series, and it's really a production marvel in every way.
My Favorite Is The Advanced Generation(Gen 3, Hoenn, Advanced Generation And Ruby And Sapphire(The Favorite Past(Xo-Gozemokai)2003-2006)) Character Design Because I'm Used To That Perfectly But Still I Love All Ash's Character Design I Don't Think They're Weak or Wrong Or Worst, I Think They Looks Gloriously Epic And Awesomely perfect And Perfectly Fine And Good The Way It Was
I imagine Ash will remain an important character (if the anime continuous going down the great path they went on in journeys), but as a side character. He is the monarch and Alola champion, which means he will have to train hard and fight some high profile battles, so he won't just be going around randomly like before or has a need to challenge gym leaders. Ash has to featured like a true champion (the way Champions and Leon have been featured in other anime series) and with it should come an older look, since he has grown as a trainer. I imagine like we saw Leon battle Lance and Raihan, we will at least get Ash vs Iris and Ash vs Alain since those are masters eight trainers and his friends who he hasn't faced and would definitely want to challenge monarch Ash.
I’ve been watching both Suede’s Pokemon Journey, recapping each episode of the earlier seasons, and Pokémon XY on Hulu and I gotta say, the differences in maturity between these two ashes certainly are striking. OS Ash is bratty, prone to cockiness and selfishness, and can be pretty snarky, but underneath it all he still has a good heart and loves Pokémon. XY Ash is basically a chill guy who loves Pokémon battles and wants to have fun with his friends.
I personally love the Sun & Moon and Power Of Us outfits the best, but XY arguably has the best aged up design for Ash that also fits with Sarah Natochenny's deeper Ash voice. XY was my favorite series in terms of the writing and art style too. I do wish they'd kept aging him up and then introducing new main characters after that though, because they really backpedaled noticeably on his design and his maturity (even made him shorter and smaller in Sun/Moon and I Choose You), and it doesn't make sense.
One of my...slightly better 2010s memories...was coming over to my mom's place over the weekend to look after the dog while she went away, and waking up to see Pokemon on CN Saturday mornings.
3:08 I mean it wasn't all that necessary but it was funny and that was a spark of good writing😅 And now I finally understand why Ash was just so cool they just based him of an older character in XY to make him equal to Serena (game/anime). I mean you do have a good point Ash will probably never go back to looking as epic as he did and will look like a child. Unless they think that it's about time to hype him back up again
XYZ is my favorite series. I have watched every pokemon series (except for journeys) and XYZ will always be my favorite. I forgot about the other series, the only thing I remember in XYZ is that Ash gets anxious a lot, and just not only Ash that gets anxious Serena and Clemont also get anxious. I'm not saying that the characters in other characters don't get anxious but it's just that the main characters in XYZ get anxious A LOT, I don't remember other series that much as I wasn't really interested in sun and moon and I watched the whole franchise years ago (journeys not included) although he was very childish in Black&White. I think I can say that Clemont is over the age of 10 since he "graduated" and since they said Ash and Clemont are around the same age, so it might mean that Ash IS over the age of 10 in this series. Ash acts more matured here and kinda more relatable (to me at least) than the other series. Nothing can change my mind, this will forever be my favorite series.
I liked the multilayered story to XY - XYZ. I’m not even in to the Pokémon anime but I watched that entire gen. It got me to try watching the other ones but I lost interest too fast. I also hated the personality switch in SM
Ash Greninja is dumb. The concept of a single mon having this shonen powerup makes the the rest of the team seem irrelevant. Which of course, guts the entire team dynamic Pokemon is known for.
Okay I've few points to say: First of all XY ash was 10 years old only just like all of other versions, the only reason he seemed so mature because the writers decided to have a darker and more emotional story arc therefore they made ash look taller and gave more maturity which was so fitting unlike sun and moon where the story arc was very comedic and childly therefore ash was like a child there, it all depends on the story and plot and also art style/animation. Also, I don't agree with the fact that xy Ash was based of calem from the games because neither version of ash is based on the game protagonists, the only thing is their dresses looks familiar. Ash's maturity grew throughout his journey because if you notice clearly journeys ash is more calm and composed compared to the hot headed kanto or jhoto versions. Lastly, when Serena returned in journeys the writers didnt show any romantic gesture because it was not fitting to the story arc, they showed serena as a more mature person just like she promised to be when she parted ways with as at the end of xyz . She acted as a role model for chloe who didnt know her dreams because serena was in a similar situation back in the days when ash acted as her role model, she also remembers the advices of ash and quotes the same advices to chloe which proves she still has ash in her mind after all these years. Finally, at the dock when ash and serena reunited for brief time, they had the similar energy towards each other pushing each other to be the very best at their respective goals and the sparkling eyes when they looked at each other and serena longing for ash at he dock until the boat is gone when green light appears( which is a reference from gatsby) meaning serena still has unwavering love for ash is enough proof to say that amourshipping is not dead.
Thing is Ash has not been ten ever since Johto. They even had a special surrounding his eleventh birthday just before the third movie. So they are factually incorrect on their part because they cemented the opposite. Going by the pattern ser by that episode Ash would be about 17 by now. Also it is important to know that Serena's crush was entirely one sided and Ash never reciprocated in the slightest. To him she was just a close friend.
I disagree with the last part. The look in his eyes could be reminiscent of an understanding, wonder and happiness. I reckon that he does feel something, but the writers are unable (or more likely, unwilling) to follow up on it.
@@andresmarrero8666 There were hints earlier on that Ash subconsciously liked her, but it was only after the final episode that he realised that he liked her back, and she was just departing to go to the Hoenn region.
@@theserpent8667 there weren't, the guy was completely clueless the entire time and only saw Serena as a close friend. Ash also isn't that subtle and you will know when he likes someone. Try all you might but the crush was entirely one sided.
@@andresmarrero8666 ... What about the time where he was disoriented, and he laid his head awfully close to her chest? Seems pretty subconscious to me. He wouldn't do that with just anyone. He never realised that he felt the same until she was going.
@@VeeVolt Lets be honest they already killed off Ash when they completely changed his personality and did the Sun & Moon design onward. They just aren't the same character on a fundamental level.
Ash never really growing up and staying consistently samey in pokemon is one of the reasons I'm not as sad about his departure as the mc, he's just become too stagnant for too long and I wanted a new character to take that spot to have a refrshing take on a full pokemon series.
We might not get another young ash design again period. Now that he's the World Monarch, another season following him around on a league challenge just doesn't make sense to me. Im personally hoping for a timeskip and that te Scarlet and violet anime protag is his son or daughter.
The XY Ash was very cool, smart and looked great! The SM Ash looked like a different boy and was very dumb. I haven't gotten to see journeys at all 😭 but his desgin and redesign looks great! And he managed to win so he must be pretty smart this time.
I find it ironic that I enjoyed XY so much because it was more anime than the previous anime xD So when they realized the anime-ness was impeding upon the cartoony brand they were like: "We must fix him. Make him GOOFY"
Just watch episode 105 of the latest series it's kinda funny how the they only meet in the final scene of the episode to avoid the shipping drama it's also funny that the final scene is a ship sailing away why Ash is saying goodbye to Serena is it a hint the their ship is sailing or the other way around 🤔🤔🤔
People like XY because they think it's maturity, but that's why I don't like XY so much. This makes Ash overrated (In particular they kept reminding audiences of this through the dialogue of Serena, Clemont, and others) and loses his personality. The same portrayal DP did better in my opinion. Serena has the same problem. Even though people who like her think the character has a growth curve, it's just boring and a gimmick to me. I really think they should complete the character first and then bring out the relationship between her and Ash instead of using the relationship as a gimmick, especially since she is not the first girl to travel with Ash.
I love all Ash in the anime of Pokémon and this video too also . And his Evolution in leagues and tournaments of each región he has and had participate
I hope that he's 16 by master journeys cause beating each game (which is pretty much what ash does) takes a maxzium of a few months and i really hope they let ash age cause that would be a really cool concept
I'm sad too that pokemon Journeys shouldn't exist because the original Writer won't release pokemon Journeys the original writers tend to end the series till Xyz.😭
I think that the biggest error in pokemon was making him loose the Kalos league His team was complete and that Greninja was simply too powerful to loose And that is tha season where hype was at its top level only for a slow decline with the new seasons
His age is never actually mentioned in Japanese. It's just the dub that insists he's 10. I figured while watching XY (in Japanese) that he was supposed to be around 15 years old.
"If instead the 10 months and 10 days must be added After Ash's birth, anime begins in his eleventh year lifespawn. So at the end of XYZ Ash is 16 years old and a half." Searched it up and this is what I got
@@KiyeHidSo supposedly that makes Serena and Clemont around that age as well. So that means Bonnie has to be around 10 or something, but she still doesn’t have a Pokemon so she really can't be 10. And The age gap between Bonnie and Clemont surely didn’t look that big.
I Don't think ash is 10 they only said that was in the start of black and white no where else and ash never said that he was 10 so I think ash is 16 years old
They gonna make me try and suspend my disbelief to think ash could be a school kid and thats where I draw the line. I've fallen off the anime for a while but unless there's drastic forward momentum, (like ash being a teacher in the anime for example) I'm pretty sure I won't ever be coming back.
@@Angelbqnnk Those are two words that better fit XY Ash more than "maturity". To put it another way, XY Ash only comes across as "mature" to the immature; he has no substance to back up the claims of his so-called "maturity".
@@LittleAl016 he’s not empty nor edgy at all, and mature applies not only mentally but physically as well. @@Angelbqnnk How is he "not empty" when all he has to give him a personality are just cheap gags that are repeated over and over, and a "badass mode"? Also, he's 10. He's allowed to act his own age.
Being honest, I think Diamond and Pearl Ash is a better way of how to do mature Ash. He still had charm and personality in my opinion but XY Ash doesn't feel like Ash anymore and he is somewhat boring. XYZ's overreliance on Ash-Greninja made this even more apparent.
@gggsh7 All of the training arcs in XYZ were about Ash-Greninja, and Ash-Greninja was one of the centers of the Team Flare finale. Plus, in the Sinnoh League, Infernape was in one battle. In the Kalos League, Greninja was really in just about every battle except the short Hawlucha battle against the Absol trainer.

And now he’s Leaving the anime

I always thought that in x y not only his appearence seemed older, but also his behaviour was kind of more mature. I really liked that. I mean, I still enjoyed the following seasons, but mature Ash stays my favorite.
Ash is mature in Pokémon Journeys, acts like a big bro to Goh in their journeys together.
How tho
Ah nah his maturity peak was in Sinnoh, because the fact he got depressed over losing to Wulfric bc of the frog, despite having to deal with even worse training his Chimchar in Sinnoh and never showing that attitude there (he doubted himself way too much but never gave up like that)
You know?
I can recall a time he was gonna dump some of his pokemons cause they didn't won a combat, and I'd see that as normal for anyone if Ash wasn't a character that has always cared more of his pokemon friends rather than a win
@@gabrielsierra6344 honestly grown ups doubt themselves more than children. Doubt is a grown up emotion.
The creator said the 10 yrs old thing is a representation of youth not actual age. Kakui even had a freakin baby, he has aged its just supposed to represent spirit of youth
Interesting I actually didn’t know that
@@VeeVolt one of em said something about springtime of youth and its always supposed to be summer in pokemon.
@@ZenithintheMaking they are in a tough spot for that until they send him off and get a new protag, potentially making him the anime red
This sounds like anime women saying "I'm 18 at heart"

understandably so!
it also had the best pokemon battle animation quality as well. Or so i think, i haven't kept up with Journeys, but have watched a few clips (like ash vs champion iris) and still remember xy animation being better

You gotta see how Sun and Moon Ash looked in the concept art. He looks 16.
The voice changing also made it feel like that.

same thing happened when i was like 10 bro absolutely loved it, cried on the last episode lmaooo, then i forgot about it until like last year and i got hooked again, xy was so unique and i still absolutely love it
I think the actual biggest reason is because Kalos was the first region there wasnt a physically more mature guy traveling with Ash.
Big time
Even with the amazing Leon fight, XY will always be my favorite season.
Any idea of how the tone might take shape???A reunion with Serena,Bonnie and Clemont???or something else?
Couldn’t agree more, and Serena and Ash’s dynamic was so enjoyable and entertaining to watch cause the romance aspect was actually given a conclusion with Serena’s kiss instead of leaving it vague and open ended like with the previous pokégirls. Serena discovering her dreams and ambitions by journeying with ash and co is really heartwarming to watch as well cause they both support each others goals :)
Also Serena getting angry at Ash for getting depressed with his losing streak against Sawyer and Wulfric and ultimately helping Ash get his funk back, also led to him mastering Greninja’s bond phenomenon as well and that’s what truly sold me on Amourshipping, cause she doesn’t just blindly worship/follow him around and helps support him just as much as Ash helped her figure out her dreams and ambitions :)
@@42Kurama Ash and Serena had no dynamic.
i liked the small romance aspect of xy and xyz, It added something that we really hadn't seen with the pokemon series.

His actions and utter incompitence made my blood boil, but yes nice design certainly
@@advisingassable Same
I don't usually like using this word in most situations, but Ash's BW design kinda looks... Iconic, in a sense.
There wasn't a Great Gatsby reference.
since they changed to a more simpler animationfriendly style with Sun&Moon and reset his Ash mostly.
i feel they missed an opurtunity to end ashes story in the XY series, then after a timeskip have his kid take the main character spot . That way they could have had the kid have new sillyer adventures learning the ropes, and have Ash step in for some tougher battles & lifelesson scenes. They went the safer route by having Ash be their "mickey mouse" of sorts wich is understandable(especially since he is originally named Satoshi after the creator of pokemon Satoshi Tajiri )
but its fun to imagine.
Would the kid be a Water Pokémon trainer like her mother?
Ash didn’t even look 10 in XY/XYZ. He felt so much more mature. The plot, characters, animation (especially animation) was so good. We’ll never get this again.
He felt wooden, not mature.
If he's so mature in XY, then why does he act like a little kid when Clemont shows off an invention?
@@dawnsbuneary We all have our things we get really excited about right? If i suddenly hear something really exciting, i get excited like a little kid too sometimes. That’s totally normal. Just because he acts really excited doesn’t mean he ain’t mature
@@Goolwa I get being excited. But Ash in XY does it with such frequency, that it doesn't feel natural. And it's a joke that overstays its own welcome, anyways.

3:40
Welp, that aged like milk.
This aged tbh I'm going to miss ash
They definetely aren't leaving the animation, Ash is the present Monarch. His Protagonist days are over that's all.
You're right, it just turns out that we would no be seeing Ash again at all. At least for a looong while.
I honestly believe it would be great if ash grew a bit in between the series. For instance, being 10 while in kanto, 11 in johto, 12 in hoenn, and so on. But having him grow older between the anime seasons would be great because it shows that ash grows mentally and physically as time goes on. (It also makes a bit more sense to have yearly Pokémon tournaments)
This decision might also make the viewers feel as if ash is growing up with him (or at least make it easier to seem that way, since the people that were Pokémon fans since it first started airing are most likely in their thirties to early forties).
Also it would suck if ash died six times in one year (I’m stating this because dying six time in one year seems more unreasonable than dying 6 times in the course of 8 years, which still sounds unreasonable)
All of this is my own opinion and I don’t fully expects others to agree with me (mainly because I sloppily put this thing together without doing that much research) but I feel as if aging him up every once is a while would make sense to the story especially in situations like tournaments it would make way more sense if a 17 year old is the strongest trainer than if a 10 year old is the strongest trainer. (And if there there is like a 10-20 year timeskip or something like that, why bother trying to keep him 10)
Anyways those are my 2 cents on the Pokémon anime. and if you read this entire comment, I hope you get something out of it.
I may be the minority, but I like his Sun/Moon design, and I liked the art style of that series as well
Ash still have those clothes/outfit,
in Pokemon Journey, Ash actually uses his XY Gloves/band,
but he dont wear it all the time, its too hot and sweat on his arm,
so he only use the gloves/band, for battles,
he wears his Z-Ring, Daimax Band and Key stone glove,
also his hats are on his house in Kanto, he never use it,
he always buy new hat, he spend his money for just a hat,
also its to hot to wear a jacket, so he wear vest with yellow stripe instead,
with white shirt (with red stripe)
well at XY/XZY, Ash wears black shirt, but its too hot for him,
since black absorbs heat, while white bounce off the heat,
also in Alola, he dont wear vest nor jacket,
just blue and white stripes shirt, since Alola is tropical region,
its hot, when wearing jacket,
Except for Ula Ula island mountain,
but he use a temporary jacket, when in Ula Ula island, he borrowed it since he didn't bring his jacket,
after Alola, Ash is now wear a vest, no sleeves,
how many money that Ash has, well he spend money on hats all the time,
he obsessed to hats, he wears hat everyday, except for sleeping,
also 10M thunderbolt required that hat on pikachu, when Ash perform a Z-Move

Well we will never see ash again thats why
Ash drip peaked in Kalos, and down the line he had Walmart Drip
3:11 HAHAHAH LOL I STILL REMEMBER THIS EPISODE ILOVE SO MUCH THIS SCENE😂😂
He had a birthday in gen one post loss too Ritchie after Pidgeot is released with 11 candles in Pallet Town
He was actually more mature in Sun and Moon than in XY.
One of my...slightly better 2010s memories...was coming over to my mom's place over the weekend to look after the dog while she went away, and waking up to see Pokemon on CN Saturday mornings.

Same I’m gonna miss him a lot
We will never see another ash 😢
3:08 I mean it wasn't all that necessary but it was funny and that was a spark of good writing😅
And now I finally understand why Ash was just so cool they just based him of an older character in XY to make him equal to Serena (game/anime). I mean you do have a good point Ash will probably never go back to looking as epic as he did and will look like a child.
Unless they think that it's about time to hype him back up again
Rip the s/v characters are middleschoolers
XY ash is my favorite shame that he didn't win the Kalos league :( Kalos is my fav series!
This guy deserves way more than only 421 subs... Amazing video BTW
Okay I've few points to say:
First of all XY ash was 10 years old only just like all of other versions, the only reason he seemed so mature because the writers decided to have a darker and more emotional story arc therefore they made ash look taller and gave more maturity which was so fitting unlike sun and moon where the story arc was very comedic and childly therefore ash was like a child there, it all depends on the story and plot and also art style/animation.
@@theserpent8667 it was complete shock. He didn't see it coming.

Agreed. The writers want him eternally 10 years old. Read the manga pokemon adventures if you want a good story and the characters age / mature.
Ya this video aged well
Never thought we’d end up with no ash design ever again 😭
@@VeeVolt
Lets be honest they already killed off Ash when they completely changed his personality and did the Sun & Moon design onward.
They just aren't the same character on a fundamental level.
@@darken2417 agreed over 9000%
That iron tail still makes me laugh
I 110% forgot about it
But seeing it in the video I can't help but laugh at that peak showing of clickbait
Ash never really growing up and staying consistently samey in pokemon is one of the reasons I'm not as sad about his departure as the mc, he's just become too stagnant for too long and I wanted a new character to take that spot to have a refrshing take on a full pokemon series.
We'll never see ASH
you are super underrated, u definitely are getting a new sub, remember me when you're famous lol
Thanks a lot man and Will do!
We might not get another young ash design again period. Now that he's the World Monarch, another season following him around on a league challenge just doesn't make sense to me. Im personally hoping for a timeskip and that te Scarlet and violet anime protag is his son or daughter.
R.I.P ash X Serena lol
@Alexander Mustapha yeah its kinda sad I always thought if they met echoer again something was gonna happen no nothing happened 😥
Me: I'm gonna say Ash in real life in the actual timeline in right now is 15 years old in seasons 23 - 25
The XY Ash was very cool, smart and looked great! The SM Ash looked like a different boy and was very dumb. I haven't gotten to see journeys at all 😭 but his desgin and redesign looks great! And he managed to win so he must be pretty smart this time.
He was mature and sometimes funny at the same time wish he was like that a little more
Being robotic ≠ being mature.
I find it ironic that I enjoyed XY so much because it was more anime than the previous anime xD So when they realized the anime-ness was impeding upon the cartoony brand they were like: "We must fix him. Make him GOOFY"
This aged well
I'm pretty sure all of Ash's journeys are in the span of one yeah for him. Similar to Valt from Beyblade Burst
Well now we’ll never even see ash at all 😢
Yeah so sad😪
And that's a good thing.
XY remains my favorite over all these years. Maybe this is part of the reason
XY Ash was too much of a shonen protagonist for me. I prefer Sun and Moon Ash by a wide margin.
And he's not even a GOOD Shounen protagonist, either.
Maybe for the Paldea Anime they'll do a time skip now that he's champion
Ash real dream is not being a pokemon master, it's BECOMING FREAKING 11
I hope that he's 16 by master journeys cause beating each game (which is pretty much what ash does) takes a maxzium of a few months and i really hope they let ash age cause that would be a really cool concept
i also tought that XY Ash looked like a 15-17 year old
I think ash started more immature (as he was 10) then more mature, then turened even more like a kid, idk though
I know what you mean
I'm sad too that pokemon Journeys shouldn't exist because the original Writer won't release pokemon Journeys the original writers tend to end the series till Xyz.😭
I think that the biggest error in pokemon was making him loose the Kalos league
His team was complete and that Greninja was simply too powerful to loose
And that is tha season where hype was at its top level only for a slow decline with the new seasons
His age is never actually mentioned in Japanese. It's just the dub that insists he's 10. I figured while watching XY (in Japanese) that he was supposed to be around 15 years old.
Mm that's true maybe one day we can get an official confirmation on his age
"If instead the 10 months and 10 days must be added After Ash's birth, anime begins in his eleventh year lifespawn. So at the end of XYZ Ash is 16 years old and a half."
Searched it up and this is what I got
@@KiyeHidSo supposedly that makes Serena and Clemont around that age as well. So that means Bonnie has to be around 10 or something, but she still doesn’t have a Pokemon so she really can't be 10.
And The age gap between Bonnie and Clemont surely didn’t look that big.
XY Ash is my favorite. Having an Ash that felt more mature was very refreshing.
Sun and moon was such a weird design. They just randomly changed him then changed it back after sun and moon.
my guess is It was probably done to suit the more chill tone of the show
I Don't think ash is 10 they only said that was in the start of black and white no where else and ash never said that he was 10 so I think ash is 16 years old
he didnt know 💀
Was that news out already when this video came online?
The gap between his eyes keeps shrinking, and this was the middlepoint
it feels strange seeing flashbacks to xy because the animation looks different and feels weird
They gonna make me try and suspend my disbelief to think ash could be a school kid and thats where I draw the line. I've fallen off the anime for a while but unless there's drastic forward momentum, (like ash being a teacher in the anime for example) I'm pretty sure I won't ever be coming back.
SM and JN are my favorite series of the anime by far
Me: I don't want that kelos shipping GARBAGE * throws the Amougshipping stuff in the trash *
Harder
Not many viewers wanted it. Which is why it wasn't a focus when Serena returned.
XY ash is the best one. the best maturity, and new character design, and he also had the best pokémon group, with greninja too
Emptiness and edginess ≠ "maturity".
@@LittleAl016 who said anything about emptiness and edginess?
@@Angelbqnnk Those are two words that better fit XY Ash more than "maturity". To put it another way, XY Ash only comes across as "mature" to the immature; he has no substance to back up the claims of his so-called "maturity".
@@LittleAl016 he’s not empty nor edgy at all, and mature applies not only mentally but physically as well. In this season he looks more grown and taller. also it’s almost impossible to say that didn’t grow in mental maturity, he had a lot more interaction and didn’t show much of that childish attitude he had before.
@@Angelbqnnk How is he "not empty" when all he has to give him a personality are just cheap gags that are repeated over and over, and a "badass mode"? Also, he's 10. He's allowed to act his own age.
I know his theory is a stretch but what if in the first Pokémon movie that ash didn’t actually wake up and this is just what ash is imagining
Being honest, I think Diamond and Pearl Ash is a better way of how to do mature Ash. He still had charm and personality in my opinion but XY Ash doesn't feel like Ash anymore and he is somewhat boring. XYZ's overreliance on Ash-Greninja made this even more apparent.
sinnoh ash is bland
@@damoriyeauhayes4046 If Sinnoh Ash is bland, Kalos Ash is a blank slate. He's like a mini Goku without the Ash Ketchum charm.
which is funny because DP relied on infernape far more than XY relied on greninja
Np, bro your capping at this point.
I really wished they had Ash continue to mature over the years it would be so much better imo
